The Battle of the Atlantic, the longest continuous military campaign[11][12] in World War II, ran from 1939 to the defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945, covering a major part of the naval history of World War II. At its core was the Allied naval blockade of Germany, announced the day after the declaration of war, and Germany's subsequent counter-blockade. The campaign peaked from mid-1940 through to the end of 1943.

4:40. We lost our grandfather in 1943 on board the HMS Celendine , a merchant seaman who volunteered yet was dead the year his son was born. Respect to James Donald Cameron. ☘️🙏
One factor that is usually ignored or downplayed is German command's insistance on chattering away on the radio.
In about 1942 the Americans designed an acoustic, homing torpedo which was code named Fido. It was intended to be carried in the bomb bays of B24 Liberators. The crews of the aircraft had orders only to launch when German submarines were diving. This way the Germans didn't know about the weapon. Fido was given to the Royal Navy and the Canadian Navy.
Thanks for watching and have a great week :)
Fido was rather too late to have a major impact in the Battle of the Atlantic.
thks for the film nice to hear some one praise the rn and not claim the battle of the atlantic was won by the raf
Cover the Battleships of the Royal Navy in WW2 please I do like the Submarines but I’m more interested in Battleships like the Queen Elizabeth Class, Revenge Class, King George The Fifth Class and the super Armoured and powerful 16 inch gun Armed Nelson Class. As well as the 2 Renown Class Battlecruisers and the mighty Hood.
Also do a cover of their colossal Grand Fleet in WW1
I’ll add it to my list! Appreciate you watching and have a great week :)
I enjoy hearing about such a historic navy.
The best navy in the world!
Yeah you might be right but remember the best navy in the world couldn’t survive without the most powerful navy’s help . If America decided to just focus on the Japanese an not help in Europe, I’m sure ussr and Great Britain would of fallen
As far as I can tell, Sierra Leone has been named as such since at least the early 1600s.
Well, my Christmas is coming early huh
Long live Britain!
My Favorite British warships is Tribal-class Destroyers & Leader-class Light Cruiser
Leander.
Great looking ships! Appreciate you watching and have a great week :)
My personal favourite is the Nelson Class Battleship they have such an interesting design and they are the most heavily armoured and armed Capital ships of the entire Navy with their enormous 16 inch guns.
Yes 👍👍
Brave sailors!
I have one request, please do the French navy in ww1 please!
Will do! Appreciate you watching and have a great week :)
@@HiddenHistoryYT thank you very much! Keep up the good work, and never stop posting I love your videos!
What about Q-Ships
I was wondering but did the Romanians and the Greeks have any naval units during ww2 because like how did the alied forces get to the island of Crete from mainland Greece.
the reason is that some of the top brass thought submerines were underhanded and un english and were underwater pirates the nick name the sub branch still get called
That's what the RN thought pre WW1. By WW2, the submarine threat was well understood and worked out by people like Captain Jonny Walker. Most submarine defence was carried out by surface escort groups, not by submarines.
@@ScienceChap thanks was not quite shure when it was said i know some at that time of world war 2 were still battleship will always be no 1
@@ScienceChap i know the rn subs are still refered to has underwater pirates and still fly the jolly rodger if on war patrol and sunk enemy ships the last time was conqure
1st😊
I don't think it's a "battle" so much as a campaign. A "battle" lasted 5-6 years makes zero sense. It was clearly a campaign with many, many, many engagements and even actual battles.
Tbf it ceased being A major battle about 42/43, once the yanks were getting right into development and deployment
So 80 years later you’re more qualified than those who served in the Battle of the Atlantic and we should change the language to suit you? You seem to have a self importance issue going on.
@@Hascienda27 tell that to the navy vetrans who thought that battles or their families or naval personel when i was in the royal navy reserve we still refered to it has the battle of the atlantic during our basic training we had to do history and i was given this battle to give a presentation on to senior rates
@@Hascienda27 Perhaps you should read about the convoy battles of March, 1943, before you make a comment like that.
