That's pretty awesome that you get to be so close to them...and thanks for doing that so we can get in the air. I was really happy on the location and I call the airport office to tell them I was spotting and they were super nice and just asked for my phone number just in case.

I actually went plane spotting at SAT around Oct 1, 2020 and the flights coming in and out were pretty scarce. I watched for about 3 hours along the frontage road just outside Jones Maltsberger Rd. No one drove up and said anything so I take it was fine as long as you aren't flashing bright lights or trying to make a distraction. Saw about 8 flights arriving and 4 departing so pretty scarce given we are still in a pandemic.

Amazing how the 2nd largest city in Texas sees so little traffic while 75 miles north Austin is killing it with the recent European routes and talk of an Asian service or two (of course Covid19 has shelved those plans for a few years ). SAT deserves better....
All comes down to runway length, and the airport has highway on three sides and a river on the other. Add 1500-2000 feet of runway to 4/22 and we'd get heavies all the time

Texas railfan Productions soooo there is a frontage road that goes around the airport on the west side near the postal facility. So the landings are coming from north to south. Look at google maps and it can give you a better idea I can’t remember the exact name of the road hope that helps...and the other part was filmed on the top of the parking garage
@@piphastings6734 That’s the same as me!! I really want to get to MAD in Spain as they see some amazing liveries… and at London Stansted there’s a FedEx MD11F which is in-and-out of IAD/MEM quite frequently, the travelling is a massive aspect to planespotting which I love the most😊👍
Yes you are allowed up there. It's recommended you call the airport and tell them you are going up there. If you don't call them you should be fine. The worst the police could do is ask you to leave. They won't ask for an I'D or anything.
yeah in the elevator it says "restricted access" or something like that but we just go up anyway lol and the rental car people drive by but dont say anything.

I work at the Airport mail facility. I love watching the aircraft while I WORK!

Excellent point....you would figure they would get more. Especially with all the military bases around.

No that was to runway 22...since 13R-31L was closed...its on the North end of the property
