Nelson Mandela, Johny Clegg, Leon Chuster and PJ Powers are those iconic people in SA who had a way to resolve our differences without any conflict. May his soul rest in peace, I used to listen to this song as a kid, loving it without even knowing the singer.
Johnny deserved much more recognition internationally than he received in life -. for his work as a social scientist, music artist, and activist. Thank you, people of France, for doing what the rest of the world should have done.
He did receive an OBE thankfully! He was and always will be one of the most inspiring people I've ever come across. I will never forget the first time I heard this song, and exactly where I was... I was absolutely transfixed! I had never heard anything like it in my life! I couldn't wait to get my hands on the album and I did manage to see him live in London twice.
I bought the cassette tape after hearing this song on the radio in 1980-something, in my early teens....funny how you just need a couple of seconds and then you can remember the lyrics like yesterday....
A unique talent, and great voice for humanity - gone, but never silenced. Peace and safe journey, Johnny - I hope the African rains are falling on the next astral plane.

You do realise that apartheid was based on racism and hate and heavily endorsed by the majority of whites?
@@garystirrup8451You have rose-tinted spectacles. Racism was alive and well in apartheid South Africa and I knew many in Welkom and Cape Town who hated Johnny Clegg as a race traitor.
R.I.P., dear HUGE African singer! MERCI BEAUCOUP POUR LA MUSIQUE ET POUR LE COMBAT CONTRE L'APARTHEID!!
Thank you Mr Clegg for your pure heart Rest in eternal peace your contribution to the universal peace will ever be enjoyed by generations to come

R.I.P brother, dady and son of africa soul still stay forever

I bought the cassette tape after hearing this song on the radio in 1980-something, in my early teens....funny how you just need a couple of seconds and then you can remember the lyrics like yesterday....
