- Hello everyone and welcome to this week's Inside Arsenal extra-time, where I'm joined once again by James Benge of CBS Sports.
In this week's show we start by answering questions sent in by you ahead of the summer transfer window, giving our thoughts on the big transfer decisions facing Mikel Arteta and Edu as they look to continue building Arsenal's squad. We also discuss the Spurs vs Manchester City game and look ahead to Sunday's season finale as Arsenal look for a first Premier League title in 20 years.
Xavi Simons speaks 4-5 languages and is of high intellect. Under Arteta, he could become a player that’s useful across several positions, or he could simple excel in an attacking midfield role.
Either way, he is quicker and faster than all Arsenal players except for perhaps Martinelli. And speed in counter-attack can always be useful.

last 5 minutes or so was brilliant, thinking of the potential of winning the league something I crave so much. Ive got a little hope left for Sunday and the excitement keeps me up at night. And if it isn’t to be, this season has been so hopeful for the future to come and I somewhat thank you Charles for the discussion you and James have provided all season. I've being telling everyone for 2 weeks that its going to be West Ham where we win the title, everyone else thought it was Spurs but I've stuck to my West Ham prediction.
My five depaertees is Partey, Zinchenko, Ramsdale, Nketiah and Nelson. I really rate all of these, but they all need to play more... so for their careers I expect them all to move on. ESR might leave if there is a recruitment in midfield of a world class, Vieria too.
I think they should go and get Youssouf Fofana from Monaco. I thought he was available on a free.

I think signing a new striker will mean we change the play again. Wouldn't be surprised if it's a bit of a slow start unless the no. 9 is slowly embedded in
Simons, Šeško, and de Jong would be my ideal "rEaLisTiC" summer recruitment.
On the discussion around areas to strengthen, I think if you take a step back and look at it, we should be purely focusing on a back up goalie for a few million quid and then be looking at a midfield addition to replace Partey (who is so unreliable) and then paying most attention to the ST and RW positions.
The idea that we need another defender seems bizarre to me. We have the best CB pairing in the league with good backup in Kiwior. Tomiyasu, Timber and Zinny to fight over the LB spot with the first two also being backups in other defensive position and the pound for pound most consistent RB in the prem in Benny Blanco.
We don’t need another defender. We just need to hold on to the ones we’ve got and strengthen elsewhere.
I think we need 1 midfielder, or two if Partey leaves, a clinical box presence striker, and an explosive winger with decent end product to back up Saka.
I’d be happy to try timber or Tomi out in left back, then reassess whether we need to bring in a defender in January.
Out: Ramsdale, Nelson, Nketiah, Lokonga, Tavares, Tierney, ESR maybe Partey
In: Sesko, Kudus, Bruno, Simons or essentially a striker, a winger, a 6 and an 8
Something like that would improve the squad massively.
It shouldn’t be hard to find players with more quality and impact than Nketiah, Nelson, ESR/Vieria and Jorginho.
I’d also be open to selling Zinchenko or loaning out Vieria / ESR.
West Harm need to work for their add-ons
I can imagine a multi-club thing would be expensive, but the upside is huge.
You get to buy a bunch of young talents for cheap, have them all develop while actually playing against quality competition at your side club, instead of having them wasted on poor opposition in the academy, or not playing on loan, pick the best of the crop for Arsenal, and sell the others for profit.
There's an obvious upside to it if you're willing to put in the money and the effort.

Hello Charles, great episode together with James!I am afraid if Arsenal doesn't win trophies and meet player ambitions, key players might consider leaving. Consistent top-tier performances and winning trophies are crucial to keep top talent from seeking transfers.
Controversial opinion: I absolutely adore our third kit from this year (23/24). The green and navy is absolutely fantastic. I hope we get more kits like it in the future. I'll also get the cursive AFC tattooed on my neck where it is on the kit if we win the league.
Charles - Any thought of buying ISAK & playing him left wing or striker dependant on the game being played. That goal he scored recently when he took on the defenders got to the by line and buried it. Mega Thierry Henry vibes
Kvartskhelia Kvichi, Frenkie De Jong, and Osumane Diomande would transform us to Invisible levels. Joshua Zirkzee as well. 🙃
I would prefer Rafael Leao. He could maybe transition into a striker. Then De Jong in midfield at that #6. He is not strong defensively like Rice, but he's sooooo good on the ball; almost as good as Partey.
We need a podcast where James just drinks beer and pontificates about life. Binge with Benge.
We need 2 quality additions that can hit the ground running, and preferably, they are PL proven.
My picks are at LB with Antonee Robinson, I believe, able to be our left sided Ben White and Isak up top!

Sesko and Havertz are both tall, less pacey options who need to be supplied the ball in particular areas. Our new striker should have the attributes to play on the wing like an Isak. Someone who can score out of nothing, beating a few players and/or carrying the ball from the halfway line.

Hi Charles, From Johnny. I don’t think the City team this season are as much of a winning machine as you make out to be. They won 2 of their 10 games this season against top 6 this season (1 at home against a Villa team that gave up and started Chambers and 1 Tuesday with dodgy KDB decision and ludicrous Son miss). They also did not win over any big Club in Europe. They are just better at steamrolling weaker sides than Arsenal, or more precisely the first-half-of-the-season Arsenal.
James is on the same wavelength when it comes to improving the team. Refreshing not to hear the same dribble of adding a 150 mil striker. Why buy a striker when the biggest problem has been LW and Partey's injury problems? No way Arsenal benches Kai after his 2nd half form. Need to see what happens next year especially after a summer as Germany's #9
I think if wed kept Granit one more year we'd be champions, maybe a lesson to learn there with Partey.
i totally disagree with you. Rice a an 8 is more productive than Granit could be. Remember he did play mostly as a 6 until Partey came back. Rice offers more to this team than Granit offensively and defensively. We have more points and more wins than last season. Next season would be mad.

If we are bringing in younger players rather than ready made proven players from within the PL, it is acceptance that the First XI is good enough to win the PL. That is probably about right, with exception of a CM to play alongside Declan Rice and Odegaard, with likely exit of Partey.
Any younger players brought in for the first team squad though have to still be exceptional and a level above Reiss, Eddie, etc. Squad depth is not improved unless Arteta fully trusts all the players to come in as required, and in rotation.

Can we say that both of you are Anti Partey? But I hope you realise that the sideways passing no 6 is what made us to be where we are at the moment. I know Englush fans adores Rice but him and Jorghino are so much into sideways that lost us a lot of games we supposed to win.

Question for Sam:
Arsenal have been really unlucky with some of the structural changes to the football financial landscape:
a) Having to pay for the Emirates stadium just as all the sugar daddies arrived.
b) Getting rid of our deadwood just before the Saudi league came about.
We all think that we are probably selling many of our fringe players this season (Ramsdale, ESR, Nketiah, Nelson).
Are we missing another structural change by not attempting to rather delay some sales to next summer when the new spending caps kick in (especially on the guys with longer contracts)?
As an example, loan Reiss and Rammers before selling them the following year when by all expectation there will be more money available... rather than accepting low offers now?

Hi Charles, we always seem to phrase the question of who to acquire by thinking in terms of bridging the gap to City. We should instead be thinking now on the level of what it takes to be the best club team in Europe in every position and should be going after the very top talents who can help us. This would also need us being absolutely ruthless with who are currently not up to the mark in the squad.
Would you be in favor of Arsenal adopting such an extreme approach? I do realize this would need us pushing the boat out a bit in terms of our finances.
My perfect window would be Openda, paqueta, tapsoba, xavi Simmons, Joshua kimmich. But I know I'm dreaming.

@@GavLever ESR does practically the same thing kai does in midfield and kai is taller to win aerial duels. We grew out of ESR and hes also not fit so everytime he comes on from injury he feels like hes playing football for the first time. Sure he did gd gd vs luton, but he was rubbish vs villa and chelsea no thanks
You're so confident Palace can't make top 4 charles that you should give james odds of 5 to 1. Liecester won the league at 5000 to 1 and from what I remember no one even gave them a hope when they where top at December. Anything is possible in the epl. DeJong is on € 721,154 week, there is no way he moves, plus we would not break our wage structure. Kvaratskhelia is on par with Kulusevski, I would not want him at our club.
