In this video, I demonstrate how to add chlorine tablets to a Hayward Automatic Chlorine Feeder (chlorinator).
I fill my chlorinator with 6 tablets once a week. The setting on the dial is left at maximum all the time. If there's going to be an unusually hot week in the summer, sometimes I'll go ahead and add an additional tablet. The same goes true if the weather will be a lot cooler, I'll usually use one less tablet in that event. Factors that determine how many tabs to use is the size of the pool, bathing load, and the temperature. The higher any of those are, the more you use.

I have a story on opening a pool last year
It all starts with my dad, my brother, and I going up north to see my grandparents like we do every year. We go places and visit mountains and all that. Anyway I help them open the pool when I go. They wanted to use well water this year but could not get the well to work so we wasted 2 days on that. One day we went to stack the fire wood and we decided to use the city water because we need to get the pool up and running. I forgot to mention that the cover is off and this is a above ground pool. There were tadpoles and a ton of leaves at the bottom. They have this thing called a leaf bagger and it works similar to the Polaris robot except it used the garden hose so you can manually vacuum the pool to get the leaves out. I filled 5 bags before we turned the pump on. While I was on the 6 bag the string broke in the pool. So I pulled up and the bag stayed at the bottom. Now this would not be a problem is the pool was clear. However the pool was black and you of course could not see the bottom. So I go with the leaf net and could not find this bag. So we just say screw it and decide to clear up the pool then make a new bag because we new the bag will be toast after all the chlorine. After the bag incident, we get it above the skimmer so we could turn the pump on. We had to wait because the pool skimmer sucks air. Once we turn the pump on the union on the return side leaks. Easy fix was not tightened. So I give the pool a good backwash and put chlorine in the floater and set that on high, I shocked the pool. And the next day I look terrible, but much better. There is another part I did not mention. I am dealing with a mad in China pump that is similar to your mystery pump. A no name brand sand filter that leaks. I brushed and and brushed every 6 hours and backwashed 3 times a day. And go it to a cloudy green before we left. Could not get the leave out so next year I will have to see what happens. Good luck through the winter and the pool opening is not a fun thing to do. There are only a few good parts:
Removing the plugs and installing the jets
    Will the pump work
    Installing the pool robot
Everything else is not fun like you said.

That's some story! Yeah, opening the pool is not fun. Once it's up and running, and clean, you get all the fun. I thoroughly enjoyed the pool last year, but it was a lot of hard work getting it up and running.

@@jaykay18 weekly maintenance is a piece of cake. I brush, manually vacuum, check the skimmer basket and pump basket, make sure the salt system is working, and check chemicals.

They're not going to, chlorine tabs are now considered "white gold". They're unobtanium.

I just realized my chlorinator was set to off lol. I kept wondering why when I opened it up after a few days the tablets were still there in full. I turned the knob so that it was on full. Hopefully that helps. I’m a first time pool owner and I have no idea what I’m doing

Thanks very much. I too, was once a first time pool owner. I've learned a lot over the years. You may wish to consider subscribing, as in a week or two, I will be starting my annual series on opening my pool.

Shouldn’t you have cleared the air from the chlorinator before closing it?

No need, it'll work itself out.

I bet one of those would keep your toilet really clean if you put one in the tank. That is if it doesn't eat the plumbing in the tank first. You could call them 100,000 flushes.

I have most certainly thought about that. But the chlorine tends to cause the rubber flapper to harden before its time. That's why I generally don't use any sort of toilet drop-in.

What's Funny is that the tablets are in plastic. Depending what region the government wants to control all these plastic and straw regulations you would think that every single thing woukd be removed. I love how they pick and choose what they want to do.

whats the difference between these and brominating tabs?

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18  3 роки тому

Brominating tabs are bromine, instead of chlorine. They provide similar functions to chlorine without much else that needs to be changed over. However, since chlorine tabs are very hard to come by, most places are out of bromine as well.
