    Congratulations! Great job! You shouldn't worry about the other racers. I volunteered at that race and saw tons. YES! TONS of racers not doing obstacles, attempting the obstacles and doing their burpees. I would have been fighting with ppl all day if I had said anything to anyone.i just cheered the racers on and kept it moving. You have your integrity and that's what matters.

    • @MurphSquad

      Thank you! Yeah, I never really worry with other runners and always just compete against myself but for some reason this just caught me off guard and I was shocked and saddened by it. I know I couldn't sleep good at night saying I did an Ultra and proudly displaying my buckle if I had skipped obstacles and burpees!! You took the right approach! Just encourage people! That was one of the best parts - all the encouragement and cheering from others! Thank you for helping out there and cheering people on! Appreciate the support and kind words!

    Thanks for making this. Great job, by the way. I'm glad you had integrity to obey all the rules.
    Sounds like you're from AL. I live in Gadsden.

      Thanks! Yeah, I would not have been able to have peace and true pride in the accomplishment if I didn't do it by the rules! Gadsden...that's awesome! My cousins grew up there and my aunt and uncle are still there. I grew up in Cullman, went to Auburn, moved to Birmingham (Hoover), then back to Cullman for a few years and then to South Florida where we have been the past 8.5 years. But we are in the process of moving back to Alabama - Alexander City. So all over...haha!

    I have my first ever spartan in two weeks in Ohio and am doing the ultra. It's refreshing not see a video where someone is doing it alone. Do you think this gave you an edge or would it have been better with a buddy?

    • @MurphSquad
      @MurphSquad  3 роки тому +4

      Oh wow...1st Spartan and you are starting with the Ultra! Dive on in - haha! I'm guessing you have done some other OCR events and run a good bit? I think there are pros and cons to both sides of the coin. For me, I'm glad I did it alone because it just gave me time to think, reflect, and built my mental toughness and Grit! And I get to go at my own pace. Not worried about waiting for someone and vice versa - having to worry about holding someone else back. On the flip side - sure it would be fun to run it with someone to talk with them and have the "war stories" to share afterwards. One day, I would like to do it with a friend but for that first one...I needed that one to be solo! Just me and my mind!

      @@MurphSquad yea man going all in on it haha. I've ran a couple marathons one of them was a trail run along with a couple tough mudders. Been training since 2020 when I was supposed to go the first time but you know how 2020 went. I think you're right, about being alone. There's less distraction and reasons to stop. Thanks for this video and great job!!

      Thanks! Yeah its one of those events/challenges that is really just you against you and trying to be your best version. I was just shocked at how many Ultra participants were skipping so many obstacles and then not doing burpees. But hey, they have to live with themselves and I know that I couldn't be proud of my Ultra buckle unless I did it the way it was intended to be done by Spartan! That's awesome man! Great venue (but man its lots of running on rocks out there if you have never run that one so be ready for that). Let me know how it goes once you are done! Go get that Buckle!

    • @MurphSquad
      @MurphSquad  3 роки тому

      I'm guessing you mean time as in how long it took to run vs time of the year. Really depends on the course but some of the Elites can run it in 5 1/2 hours which is smoking!!! Honestly just finishing the Ultra before the time cut off (I think the time cut off is 13-14 hours) is a huge accomplishment!

I take home made (capsule size 0) himalayan salt caps, 100mg potassium citrate (now foods) tabs, and just added magnesium powder (600mg spread out for the full ultras drinking water (by Garden of Life)), never had a cramp in 18 ocrs. I've also done an 18 hour fasted 5 hour 21 mile walk/run in 32c heat, just the above salt and potassium + a couple of litres of water from the freezer (it was warm by the end), but no cramp.
