He was so nakedly honest, so efficiently able to convey pain, and very much in touch with his reality and trajectory. This was a guy who hated the way he was steering and couldn't stop. He was not unaware, he was hyper-aware. He was not a "druggie", he was manic and sought balance. Drugs are the avenue to peace for millions; or a perception of peace, at least. We act shocked that creative people off-themselves with extreme behavior. Creative people have vulnerable hearts. The gift that's given is the gift that kills them. The best artists are way off the plank. Hoon was the kind of person who would have crawled across a ledge 50 stories up just to rescue a cat. He cared about life. He cared about his life. All life. He loved. He didn't want to die. Things just spiraled. He was the cat on the ledge. But the guy was too fearless. He didn't want a net.

I ran into Lanegan a couple of weeks ago,talked to him for a few minutes and he seemed fine to me. If he's dead.....somebody forgot to tell him! As for the others,they are gone and they are missed.
As they're making the album Soup, before they got to Mouthful of Cavities, a bunch of cats had come near the building and started, ' singing/meowing' outside from where they were playing, so when Shannon heard them he says," Shhh! Hear the cats?", so it ended up becoming the very beginning of the song Mouthful of Cavities. And yes if you have the full version you can hear him saying that and you can hear the cats meowing outside nearby. Very cool! Hope this was informative. BTW, my info is By Word of Mouth before hi -speed- knows-everything-internet, in 95'. I have never researched the information I was given, one because the resource was very reliable and had that feeling of a kindred spirit with Shannon like I still have to this day. Another reason I have never done any research was also because I like the story behind it, regardless if it may be fabricated or if it's full fact. I was going through the same thing as Shannon when he made that album, which I did not know at the time until after his passing after the album was finished. The bartenders at our local watering hole would roll their eyes every time my friend Tony and me would walk in and amble over to the jukebox and play the first Blind Melon CD...all the way through...priceless

This is one of my all time favourite songs. Jena Kraus is totally underated.. her and Shannon Hoon's voice just go so great together .stirs up all kinds of emotions, I can never just play this once.
