The 90’s is considered the golden era of hip hop, no debate needed
1986 to early 1997 is considered the golden era
80s is the golden era
Very incorrect maybe because of youth
Yessir
@@JPK169 1982 (when "The Message" dropped) - 1994 (right when gangsta rap was taking over)....
Hip-Hop and NBA in the 90s was the shit for me!!!! RAW!
Even R&B...
RnB of the 90s is definetly unmatched
And Metal 🤘🏾
I’ll give you Hip-Hop but The NBA was 100% better in the 2000s.
Umm 90s NBA was easily the weakest era in the modern times!
Respectfully! 100% Facts! Salute 🙏🏽🔥🙏
93-96 alone wipes the floor with the 2000s.
The culture was still firmly in our grasp in that decade as well.

90s, hands down. There is no debate whatsoever...

None
Exactly this a stupid question
90s Hip-Hop. 2Pac, BIG, Nas, Jay-Z, OutKast, Wu-Tang, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, De La Soul. Too Much greatness to count. 😎
All of them except pac and big was around in the 2000s too

@@JamesSmith-oy3kj But the stemmed from the 90s
@@SinReps410HipHop I feel ya, but I think jayz and OutKast and dr.dre made better music and produced more classics in the 2000, I can name off plenty of 2000-2010 rappers that went hard too, 80’s baby’s 90’s kid 2000 teenager
Also UGK, Mobb Deep, LL Cool J, Rakim, Snoop Dogg, Geto Boys, Beastie Boys, Bone Thugs...
There will never again be a period like the 90s again. The excitement of hip hop heads waiting outside the record store on the day their favorite artists album drops knowing damn well it was gonna be dope can never be duplicated. I remember listening to capital punishment on my Walkman on the bus going home reading the album cover insert and the chills I got while I was listening to that first track BEWARE…Beautiful times
The 90s, the Golden era of Hip Hop 💯
90s all day and im a 80s baby
90s is the greatest era of rap, not even a debate
90s for me
90s was best era in hip hop
90s the best era🔥🔥🔥🔥
No question anybody that knows about this great artwork knows hands down its the 90's -no debate or discussion.
The 90s is the golden age of Hip Hop.
At the same time, 2000s was blazing. With the likes of Eminem, Jay-Z, DMX, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes, Ludacris, T.I, Nelly, OutKast, Kanye West, Missy Elliott, Jadakiss, Fabolous, Trick Daddy, Lil Jon, LL Cool J, Ja Rule, Fat Joe, Bow Wow,
The 90s for me. The golden era.
93 - 96 was fucking insane.
I take those 4 years over the 80s, 2000s and 2010s combined.
@@j0k-randomstuff I fuck with them years but the whole 80’s-90’s and 2000’s. 2010s was cool but not like earlier years
@@JamesSmith-oy3kj It is but over half the best acts from the 2010s on up weren't even being given real shine like that. I maintain that 80% of the artists we've been forced to deal with the last fifteen years in pop culture/music have all been industry plants...
💯 exactly
Truth spoken.
92-97
Being 45 years old, when I clicked on this video I said “The 90’s should win by a landslide!!” And I was right 🤷🏾♀️
80's & 90's are the best 2 decades in Hip-Hop! 88' to 98' is unmatched
This is almost the range I consider the golden era but I say 88 to 96.
90's Rap all day. Had catz like 2Pac, Snoop, Ice Cube, Eazy E, Dr. Dre, MC Ren, Tweedy Bird Loc, Too Short, E-40, Warren G, MC Eiht, DJ Quik, Spice 1, BIG, NaS, Jay-Z, AZ, Wu Tang, Redman, Mobb Deep, DMX, The LOX, Big L, Gang Starr, Mos Def, Kool G Rap, M.O.P., Das EFX, KRS 1 and ect.
That shit was so incredible that you named all legends and didn't even come remotely close to scratching the surface smh. I feel bad for those that didn't get to experience it, that era of hip hop was absolutely insane...
And scarface
FACE MOB
Problem is my dude, the majority of the rappers you just named peaked in 2000s..... even though I'm a 90s guy myself, early 2000s had the better rappers no question, even though many were crossovers from the 90s. But in a realistic world the hip hop golden era was 95-2005 and the roots being in 85-95
@@leopardpro2878 The golden era is from about '85 to 2006. The amount of game changing albums from the 2000s is like a fraction of the 90s. Guys like Souls of Mischief for example changed how people looked at the West coast when it came to lyricism and their first album, a classic/masterpiece if ever there was one, didn't even come close back then to going gold.
I’m a big 90s fan but earlier 2000s (2000-2003) was magic….most of the best sounds come from those years
You nailed it with your response.
I call that an extension of the late 90z sound and style. early 2000's was riding the wave the late 90z built. I felt the 00s didn't quite have its identity till like 04-05. There A LOT of late 90z holdover's up until like 03, not even just hip hop wize. Boybands were still a thing around 01/02, wrestling was still hot as fire etc
Ima say 90s Hip-Hop became it became the most popular Genre of music; plus many figures in Hip Hop rose to prominence like Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G, Puff Daddy, Suge Knight, Outkast, Mobb Deep, Wutang Clan, Dr. Dre, Snoop Doggy Dogg, Eminem, Lil Kim, Foxy Brown, Jay-Z, Nas, Lauryn Hill, Ice Cube and more.
The 90’s is the GREATEST ERA OF ALL-TIME, POINT BLANK PERIOD !!!!!!!!!!!!
90s Hip Hop is the greatest form of music ever created
90s for me. Rae was right back the. You had to have at least 6-7 bangers on your album. The clubs everywhere were packed even overseas where I was stationed at hip hop and R&B was cracking. Hell back then Hip Hop artist and R&B artist did records together. Look at the R&B groups Jagged Edge, Ideal, Dru Hill, Next, Boyz to Men, Xscape, Zhane just to name a few.
Now what you said a lot of people forget makes the 90s EASILY better: the sense of community. There are little to no more great rap or R&B collectives/groups in the 2020s. In the 90s there were so many that absolute legends now got completely overlooked in their primes.
@dawb86 exactly 💯. Folks forget it wasn't just Hip Hop controlling the radio and clubs R&B was controlling it too. Think about it Biggie w/ Total and 112. Method Man w/Mary J still Meth biggest recored.
ABSOLUTE TRUTH!!!!🎤🎤🎤🔥🔥🔥🫡🫡🫡
@reallife0728 I'm just saying. Can you name an R&B group right now? Also, hip-hop groups had to have 3 fire videos along with 6-7 bangers on the album and that's with only 12 songs on each album. Think about it. Pac w/Jodeci, Biggie with 112. Hell every movie had a dope ass soundtrack as well
This is easy, Death Row, , No Limit, Cash Money, 2Pac, Snoop, Dre, Dog Pound, E-40, Jay-z, Wu Tang, Nas, Mobb Depp, , Outcast, Bone Thuggs and many more
Bro. Bad Boy, Cash Money, Death Row, DITC, Duck Down, Dungeon Family, Hieroglyphics, Uptown, Hit Squad, Hypnotize Minds, Likwit Crew, Refugee Camp, Loud Records, Native Tongues, No Limit, Rap-a-Lot, Rawkus, Roc-a-Fella, Ruff Ryders, Ruthless, Soulquarians, Wu. There could NEVER be a debate on that shit lol...

I can’t believe they were asking “what’s 2000’s”
90s= 1990-1999
00’s= 2000-2009
I think they were saying name a few big releases from the 2000s. You gotta remember, some of the legends getting up there in age. A lot of times them periods of time start blending together in your conscience lol...
@@dawb86 lol and you’re right about that, you really are. I just know that if someone says 80’s that’s 80-89, BUT to your point, if an artist for example jay z, started dropping albums in the 90’a but also was dominant in the 00’s, yea the lines can get blurred
@@matthewpalmer7822 Facts. Plus, people consider the Jay or the Nas of the 90s different from their 2000s versions. I liked the LOX when they first got in the game but it's what they did in the early 2000s that really solidified their legacies. Same with a Beyonce who was just the lead in Destiny's Child at the end of the 90s.
@@dawb86 yea that’s so interesting how an artists can have different strides in different decades. Sometimes better strides sometimes a bit less, MJ? 80’s version is usually agreed as the best version
@@matthewpalmer7822 Oh hell yeah lol. MJ, Prince, Madonna, and Whitney ruled the 80s, period.
One of the wildest questions ever
Why is it wild ? Too political to keep it real 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Hip Hop keeps it real not political .....
It’s crazy how people put the 2000s in the same boat as the 90s nowadays. In the 2000s people were saying hip hop was dead.
In hindsight, they realize a lot of shit out there was still real good. A lot of shit's good now but it's not played on the radio, I keep telling people do your research cause it's still a lot of super dope hip hop and R&B out there right now.
Jay-Z and Eminem are the clear front runners. But you also got T.I., Wayne, and 50 Cent. Every other artist kind of just got in where they fit in. Not a bad era, just top heavy
@@kobe2curry4rose1 OutKast is a front runner as well. Missy was the female rapper par excellence before Nicki creatively and was more consistent in terms of her albums than Nicki has ever been. People tend to forget there was a lot of politics at the labels acts from those times had to deal with. Shifts in power when presidents would leave companies or one company would buy out the other. If they didn't deal with that for so long the Clipse's careers might've looked completely different from a historical perspective. It severely hurt a lot of the R&B acts as well and in certain ways the cultures at large never fully recovered...
I'm assuming that the 2000s are year 2000 to 2010
@@leatherface964 2000-2009

This is close though, I wanna side with the 90s cause that covers everything from 1990 with cube going solo, pac, big, nas, jay, X, rule, wu, OutKast, no limit, cash money etc etc etc but 00’s is Nelly, Luda, t.i., Wayne (resurgence) Royce, Lupe, wale, Cole (mixtape), Drake (mixtape) ross, jeezy, etc etc
But I would go 90’s
How some of them even have to think about it. The 90s was the peak era in Hip Hop, point blank period. Ain't nothing will ever come close to it again. Each coast had its own sound and then every borough within each coast had their individual style, too. The authenticity and feeling of the 90s was beyond different.
That’s what I’m saying!!!
@7adruler So just because rappers made a whole lot of bread and rap music became a more household thing in the 2000s, that's what makes it the best era in Hip Hop??? That's a super weak argument.

Golden era 90s

I'd take the 2000s over the 80s
90s overall is the golden era, everything about 90s man
Not just hip hop even rock tech and other genres
Movies, games and everything man, i wish i was got stuck in the 90s
Man bro, the DIVERSITY of the shit. 90s is literally MC Hammer, Death Row, Bad Boy, Dungeon Family, Wu-Tang, Native Tongues, No Limit, Ruthless, Cash Money, Hypnotize Minds, Def Squad/Hit Squad, Ruff Ryders, Roc-a-Fella, Rap-a-Lot, Rawkus, Neo soul, Soulquarians, New Jack swing, the early Timbaland and Neptunes production era, ALL happening within a span of a decade. It was like a fucking explosion of creativity and expression and like you said that's not even touching on film, television and other genres of music.....
@7adruler You have to understand it's not just about the fact that there hasn't still been plenty of great music released in the 2000s/10s/20s decades as well. There has but it's not a debate at all, things have undoubtedly become more individualistic in the new era. Little to no great hip hop/R&B groups, nowhere near the same emphasis on putting together great compilations, soundtracks, etc. In the current mainstream approach to music, things have actually reverted for the most part back to how it was in the early pop music era (50s/early 60s) when everything was more singles-oriented rather than a focus on making full album artistic statements. Add to that the fact most artists believed uniqueness as artists was what made one a star and considered it important to not sound like other acts and there's almost no comparison to the 90s and the modern era at all. Just two different mental processes in the creative conceptualizing of the music altogether.
for 2pac i go with 90s
Cube 🐐is the 90’s
2Pac wasn’t even the best during that era
It’s his preference
2pac sucked
The 90s. No debate.
Correction 70' s ,80' s and 90' s
What a time to have been alive! Thank God I was! 90s to Infinity
ABSOLUTE TRUTH!!!!🫡🫡🫡🤎🤎🤎
90s . . . Period
Rae said it best. Why more creativity in the 90s far as lyrics. Even though there was less sampling in the later 2000s, even the producers in the 90s were better. To take those old samples, speed them up, slow them down and throw hard ass beat behind them...
It's like this, the best rappers are in the 2000s, but the best hip hop artists are in the 90s. You've got the best of the best in the 2000s, that's where you have Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Nas, Eminem, Andre 3K, and so many more, I appreciate they are cross overs, but that is the prime era for those artists. Where in the 90s you've got the explosion of hip hop, where hip hop really broke its way through with true legends. So if we pin point the actually golden years, even though 85-95 is where all the pioneers are from, the best hip hop came from 95-2005, with the most pinnacle point being 99-02, this isn't pin pointing the artists individually, this is pin pointing the years where the levels were at its highest for a lot of people dropping big hits constantly.
See the old head haters will say 2000s what you crazy? ain't nobody trying to dance to soulja boy and kill their mamma (I do get this statement though LOL)
But this is the reason why 2000s wins over the 1990s, you would be better to say 85-95 and 95-2005 then 95-2005 wins with flying colours that there is no debate other than don't forget your roots
2000s as follows
Ludacris - DMX - Nelly - Jermaine Dupri - Kanye West - Outkast - Dem Franchize Boyz - 50 Cent - Eminem - Jay Z - Nas - Terror Squad - Snoop - Twista - Missy Elliot - Meth & Red - Busta - Mos Def - Eve - Lil Wayne - Wu Tang - Lil John (hurts to say that 1) - TI - Cam'Ron - Chamillionaire - Dead Prez - Scarface - the list can go on
Don't get me wrong, it hurts to say it because my time is the 90s but the truth is the better rappers were in the early 2000s and most of them came through the 90s but it is what it is.
@leopardpro2827, thank you for explaining the artists and the years ripping the mic.
@7adruler I can see why you say that because of illmatic and it was written, and his best ever written song being I gave you power..... but!!! consistency of lyrics were in the 2000s with gods son, the lost tapes, magic etc. Don't get me wrong, I f with 90s stuff more than his 2000s stuff but thats on vibes, stuff I'd bump in my car... but as an artists, lyrically, his prime is 2000s
90,s and Early 2000's was some of the best music ever
1:08 it’s its 95-05 then I’m going with that stretch
THE 90'S OFF TOP! I LIVED THROUGH THAT ERA! IT'S THE LAST GREAT ERA FOR MUSIC! 💪🏽😎

@7adruler biased statement 😂😂😂😂😂😂 it’s called an opinion 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤣🤣🤣
90s until 2007 and after that is the downfall........music still had a balance in the early 2000s. you had pop, rock, crunk, edm, dance, neo soul (one of the best sub genres ever!) and hiphop all being played and praised......as time passed and the 2010s came the industry became weird....only trap and drill was being put in the forefront. Pop artist sucked, and so did rock artist......music just comes and goes now.....its like ma microwave era. People dont digest a song 1st ....they rush for the next one to drop. Songs back then would last for a whole year and we still played the hell out of them. Now labels will push a song for 3 months then force and artist to drop the next one right after
The 90's
Generation X took hip hop to it's peak in the 90s.
90 the whole ten years were krackin in tbe 2000 about 3 or 4 years were good....90 all tbe way grew up on tbe whole east coast west coast beef it was kracking even after
1990s 💪🏾🇧🇷
2000s.....All day!!!!❤
Landslide, 90s Greatest Era EVER
The 90s had more legends more classic albums and doper music.......hence the reason why its considered the golden era of hip hop
The early 2000s, still had a few 90s dudes trickling over, dmx ,jayz, nas
However dudes like nelly, eminem, ludacris would be considered more early 2000s, while 50 cent popped in 2003, and the south just carried hiphop the rest of the way, like lil wayne for example......
The 90s era of hiphop was still rugged and was still in its truest form....
The 2000s is when hip hop basically got extremely more commercial
I was born in 99 so imma pick the 2000s of course but i love 90s rap religiously too and it birthed 2000s rap
As great and even enjoyable as the 2000’s were for rap and R&B, there was something magical about both genres in the 90’s.
I also think the quality of both genres started to gradually go downhill around 2004-2006. Had that decline never happen it would be a draw between both decades.
The 1990's is most definitely the absolute greatest decade for Music in general AND rap/hip hop BUT people forget how dope the 2000's were! Especially Music that came out literally after New Year's Day transitioning from 1999 into 2000.
I don't care what nobody says because the 2000's were dope AF! People already forget how wonderful the emergence of "Neo-Soul" & R&B in General was in tha 2 triple "0". India Aire, Jagged Edge, Next, Musiq Soulchild, Usher establishing himself, Ne-Yo & Chris Brown, Jaheim, Tank, Tyrese & Brian MCKnight later 2000's releases, Blaque, 3LW, Destiny's Child, No Question etc....etc.....SO many r&b acts & one hit wonders in early 2G.
Eminem dropped his debut in 99' & continued to release hits, Mos Def & Talib Kweli became popular around 2000, Dilated People's & Jurassic 5 became hot around this time, Black Eyed Peas, Aceyalone, Planet Asia & Rasco Cali Agents, Lupe Fiasco, MadLib, Dre & Snoop. DMX was still droppin' bangers in the 2000's. Kanye West & Papoose became popular around the 2000's. I think Canibus became quite popular in 99' and onwards. The High & Mighty.
Rawkus Records dropped "Soundbombing 2" & Lyricist Lounge 2 around this time. LOTS of compilations & mixtapes in the early 2000's. Producer 9th Wonder gained traction & recognition in the 2000's with Little Brother. The 2000's brought some HEAT!!! 🔥
Even mainstream "Pop" Music was pretty dope in the EARLY 2000's. I remember buying & listening to dopeness as late as around 2006. 2007-2009 is when the trend suddenly started to change into some weird 2010's vibe. 06/07 were really the last years, unless you delved into the UNDERGROUND for good Music. The 2000's really weren't bad at all up until a certain point. Early 2K reminded me of LATE 90's Flava. Subtle differences but still a VIBE.
If you gotta ask what happened in the 2000s then its 90s lol
The more I think about it, the closer it seems. I still gotta go 90’s, but 2000-2009 was pretty solid.
I grew up on 2000s so imma go with that

Both, essentially 90s was the golden era but there was some iconic music in the 2000s too I guess it depends what era you grew up in,the 90s was my teenage years but the 2000s was my transitioning to an adult I loved all music of those decades.
I pick 90's simply because it was heavily competitive and based on skill. And skill is what sold records. No one bought your shit if you weren't dope. The 2000's had its stars but that's when we started to allow anyone into the rap game due to the internet taking off, Soundcloud, and streaming services. Even if you sucked, people still listened to your shit cause they didn't have to "pay" for it. That's still true today.
Historicaly 90's. All my top 5 dropped in the 90's a couple didn't live to see 2000's but the ones who did was still dropping fire albums in the 2000's
