  • I made a south paw parry video and an orthodox parry video, so today's video covers details of a parry variation - the cross parry. While my previous videos went over parrying with the rear hand, this video talks about what you need to be aware of if you decide to parry with your lead hand. This is handy to use when getting close to the cage.

    Well explained, especially the part about dropping out of range with the backwards bridge (correct me if i’m wrong, but i’ve also heard it referred to as a drop-step). Love the channel btw👍

      Thanks for commenting and sharing. I actually didn't know that's what bridging backwards is called. I know people use different terminology for various moves/techniques.

    I do MMA but also train TKD for the kicks and because of the footwork and long guard you're taught it's instinctive for me to go backwards while doing a lead hand parry, I didn't even know why it was 'risky' until I'd watched this. Many of the blocks/parries from Karate and TKD also flow well with a long guard.

    What would you say to parrying like this but then stepping to your right in orthodox, moving away from the opponents rear hand?

  • @fireslacker
    @fireslacker 4 роки тому

    So are you saying we should not parry close to our face. But instead parry and meet their punch in the middle? So as not to fall for a fake straight punch in case they come around it with a hook.

    • @fireslacker

      Also, couldn't you mitigate the risk of a rear hand parry by bridging back as well to create more distance? (in case the punch does come around like an overhand.)
