I have an ebike with 250watt motor and a 36v/5.8ah battery. It does only 25km-ish on E mode. So I switch on E only if the road goes uphill. I pedal on flat roads. I do nothing on downhill. It has gears which help but it still feels heavy without the E. My gears always stay on 28t and 24t. Anything below and I have to put effort in the pedals. I have a regular bike and that feels so smooth and easy. The E weight is definitely an issue.

I often drop my pedal assist down to zero, and ride for exercise, and yeah, it is hard work on a 26 inch fat tire ebike. But just some planning can ensure you get home okay every time. And yeah, I grew up in the 50s and 60s, a time when you did stop to see if a guy with a break down was okay, and hitch hikers didn't get murdered. Mostly you didn't need to lock your door when you went out either, car parked in the driveway had the keys left in it, never a problem! Different attitude between regular people back then for sure. ;

My e-bike is just a heavy and kind of slow mtb when the motor is off. It's not so bad as long as I don't have to climb any hills. I can go almost as fast as on my non electric mountain bike. It kind of rides like a beach cruiser. Whenever I don't want or need to go fast that's how I ride it. (Mine only weighs 50lbs. 350 watt motor, 10.4 Ah 36V battery.)

I have gas bikes and electric bikes, I love peddling them without power especially the gas ones, it's so much better to pedal a 60 , 70 lb bicycle 10 miles then it is to push it.😮

The bad thing about e-bikes still being bikes without the power is the added weight that's now on you to pedal up a hill, you, who got an e-bike and have been riding easily for a while, probably making your legs weaker..yeah, it'll be bad!

When my DD motor died on the way to work it was nightmare. I was soaking wet and almost had heart attack going uphill on that thing xd

An ebike with FWD?! Why?! Is this a custom modified bike?

I did build it from a mountain bike… I chose FWD cause it was easier to do, but ended up liking it cause it feels like a 2 wheel drive bike when I’m peddling… most of the time it’s great and really it’s only gravel roads and accelerating too fast from a stop that are less than desirable.

I tried that with my 70 pound Urban Ryder 7 speed electric 26'' fat tire back from Green Cycles (British Columbia) shit was unbearable. even on high gears.
