  • We've been foraging in Napa Country for quite some time and specifically on Howell Mountain which is on the North Eastern side of Napa Valley. December seems to be the month when we get the best results and normally we go on Christmas day. This time we chose Dec 8th which turned out to be a really good time to forage this year with this years rain and weather patterns.
In all we foraged about 12 pounds of amazing wild mushrooms that included some beautiful white Chanterelles, Matsutake, and some lovely edible Amanitas known as Coccora's or Amanita calyptroderma.
There were dozens of other species up there but as a rule we never eat anything that isn't incredibly easy to identify. Also, this is not any sort of advice in regards to properly identifying mushrooms and we only ever suggest going out with a trained professional.
    Enjoy the video!!!!

We’re always learning when it comes to foraging mushrooms. Thanks for your share! Really awesome to see you guys do this together. Wish I could get my husband to join me on some of my adventures. Just me and the kids most of the time. Subscribed.

I was going to mention that mistake too. I wonder what other mushrooms they misidentified!

Cool Video! Thanks for sharing. I would recommend including a little information about the Amanita Colyptrodermas lookalikes. People mistake that mushroom for the death cap. Its an advanced mushroom to forage for the table. Again thanks for sharing your adventures!

Short footed brivioies can be parisitized by hypomyces Lactaflorum which changes it to the lobster mushroom

Matsi does not concave on the top. I bet if you pinch that mushroom, it will be very brittle. It shall be a russula brevipe.

Those red topped ones you were sure about looked like a russula as well. The Brittle gill mushroom . I can’t think of the scientific name for that.

Yeah, the filming wasnt the best in that part.....also, we're doing the best we can at this.....we're by no means pro video people....we have full time careers and love to share some content in our free time. Once you have some videos I'd love to critique them.....They'd probably be perfect though :)

Yeah…Russula is what folks are saying! The mushroom community is crazy strong! One doesn’t get away with anything! My knowledge of what we foraged was given to me by a local…I’ve eaten these for four years though and they taste amazing and no issues. It’s a journey! Thank you for your comment!

they look very similar under the duff but you can always tell by the smell. the chanterelles were insane for being that far inland. @@versionofexcursion
