Honest economic questions for any liberal watching this: -Typically, one of the key economic party platforms for democrats is expansion of social programs and government economic control (like free college, free housing, etc) -Usually, demand for these programs comes from a rising issue in the economy, such as rising college debt or the cost of housing. -Here’s where my questions come in… --If the government just pays to build a bunch of homes to get rid of something such as the housing crisis, doesn’t that leave the core issue unresolved? We are in this problem because we built so few homes between 2010-2020, so the government paying for a bunch of homes doesn’t actually fix the real issue, and it will ultimately happen again. -2nd, someone has to build these houses. If the government is now going to go to home builders and increase demand, won’t that increase costs on anyone else who wants to build a home, since builders/suppliers are now spread even more thin? -Furthermore, when the government is buying something, they are playing with other people’s money (the taxpayers), so they naturally are not motivated to get the lowest, most economical price possible, so they naturally will be spending more per home, right? -Finally, someone has to pay for these homes. The government doesn’t just have more money. The typical democrat answer for how it will be done is by raising taxes on the 1% of people and companies. But last time I checked, rich people and multi-national corporations are really good at making money. If you raise taxes, they aren’t just going to take the loss. That’s fundamentally opposite of human tendencies. Especially for publicly owned companies that have to show growth on their profit margin/stock price or else investors abandon ship. These people will simply raise prices, lower wages, and move money around to cover the difference. And when the cost of your groceries goes up 3%, we all end up paying for it in the economy…not the rich people. You can take these issues and apply to any situation: free college, free healthcare, free schooling, free food, free anything. With any socialized service or good, you will always have the problems of: 1. Government inefficiency 2. Increasing demand on a strained part of the economy 3. Not solving the actual problem 4. The money has to come from somewhere, and you can’t just isolate it from the rich people, because they are rich for a reason. So what is the actual answer? Well, for my example of the housing crisis: -The first step is addressing the actual problem. Why do we have a housing crisis? It’s simple supply and demand. We don’t have enough houses. -Per decade before 2010, the US averaged building between 25-28 million homes. Between 2010-2020? We build 5.6 million homes. Boom. There it is. That’s your housing crisis. -The next key point is to dig deeper in the why. Why didn’t we build enough homes? Really three reasons: 1. During the recession, many people left the home building industry (carpenters, electricians, excavators, building supply companies, etc) due to all time low demand. 2. When demand came back up, not enough people wen back in the industry. During the Obama administration, emphasis on college was expanded greatly, and many kids weren’t aware of the bountiful opportunity in the home building industry. 3. Child labor laws were expanded greatly during the Obama administration. Legally, a kid can’t work on a construction site until they are 18. So how are you supposed to get any experience before the time when you need to pay for your life? Answer: You can’t. So what’s the fix? The government paying for a bunch of homes? No. The fix is to get people back in the home building industry. Get rid of red tape for small businesses. Get rid of the restricting child labor laws. Get rid of our education system and start actually prepping kids for the future. Want better wages? Fix why they are low. Get people experience. Allow entrepreneurship to challenge the status quo. Want better healthcare? Allow companies to compete. Allow entrepreneurship to challenge the status quo. Notice a pattern? The answer isn’t the government jamming a square peg in a round hole. We all end up paying for it. The answer is solving the real problem.

Honest economic questions for any liberal watching this:
-Typically, one of the key economic party platforms for democrats is expansion of social programs and government economic control (like free college, free housing, etc)
-Usually, demand for these programs comes from a rising issue in the economy, such as rising college debt or the cost of housing.
-Here’s where my questions come in…
--If the government just pays to build a bunch of homes to get rid of something such as the housing crisis, doesn’t that leave the core issue unresolved? We are in this problem because we built so few homes between 2010-2020, so the government paying for a bunch of homes doesn’t actually fix the real issue, and it will ultimately happen again.
-2nd, someone has to build these houses. If the government is now going to go to home builders and increase demand, won’t that increase costs on anyone else who wants to build a home, since builders/suppliers are now spread even more thin?
-Furthermore, when the government is buying something, they are playing with other people’s money (the taxpayers), so they naturally are not motivated to get the lowest, most economical price possible, so they naturally will be spending more per home, right?
-Finally, someone has to pay for these homes. The government doesn’t just have more money. The typical democrat answer for how it will be done is by raising taxes on the 1% of people and companies. But last time I checked, rich people and multi-national corporations are really good at making money. If you raise taxes, they aren’t just going to take the loss. That’s fundamentally opposite of human tendencies. Especially for publicly owned companies that have to show growth on their profit margin/stock price or else investors abandon ship. These people will simply raise prices, lower wages, and move money around to cover the difference. And when the cost of your groceries goes up 3%, we all end up paying for it in the economy…not the rich people.
You can take these issues and apply to any situation: free college, free healthcare, free schooling, free food, free anything.
With any socialized service or good, you will always have the problems of:
1. Government inefficiency
2. Increasing demand on a strained part of the economy
3. Not solving the actual problem
4. The money has to come from somewhere, and you can’t just isolate it from the rich people, because they are rich for a reason.
So what is the actual answer? Well, for my example of the housing crisis:
-The first step is addressing the actual problem. Why do we have a housing crisis? It’s simple supply and demand. We don’t have enough houses.
-Per decade before 2010, the US averaged building between 25-28 million homes. Between 2010-2020? We build 5.6 million homes. Boom. There it is. That’s your housing crisis.
-The next key point is to dig deeper in the why. Why didn’t we build enough homes? Really three reasons:
1. During the recession, many people left the home building industry (carpenters, electricians, excavators, building supply companies, etc) due to all time low demand.
2. When demand came back up, not enough people wen back in the industry. During the Obama administration, emphasis on college was expanded greatly, and many kids weren’t aware of the bountiful opportunity in the home building industry.
3. Child labor laws were expanded greatly during the Obama administration. Legally, a kid can’t work on a construction site until they are 18. So how are you supposed to get any experience before the time when you need to pay for your life? Answer: You can’t.
So what’s the fix? The government paying for a bunch of homes? No.
The fix is to get people back in the home building industry. Get rid of red tape for small businesses. Get rid of the restricting child labor laws. Get rid of our education system and start actually prepping kids for the future.
Want better wages? Fix why they are low. Get people experience. Allow entrepreneurship to challenge the status quo.
Want better healthcare? Allow companies to compete. Allow entrepreneurship to challenge the status quo.
Notice a pattern?
The answer isn’t the government jamming a square peg in a round hole. We all end up paying for it.
The answer is solving the real problem.

These are great questions, but the average voter is too dumb or lazy to care. Hence why these debates get reduced to applause lines and soundbites for the 24 hour news cycle.

The way we fix things like wages, housing prices, etc is:
1. An education system and labor laws that actually allow children to get to 18 with a confident skill and plan.
2. Entrepreneurship that challenges the status quo.
the housing crisis is intentional. the majority of the people in this country are nimbys with most of their wealth staked in the value of their home so they vote for strict zoning laws that prevent any new construction from happening (new housing being built would increase supply and decrease the value of their homes)

But they can still be drafted, which is the point. You're conflating two different things. Being drafted v Volunteering. One requires selfless bravery and a desire to serve, the other requires a basic level of intellect and a heartbeat.
Coming up on Veterans Day i can never thank those who sacrifice for us enough. They defend all of us, even those of us who never make the choice to serve. Thing is, those who decide to send the best of us off to battle should be held accountable by all of us. That's kinda the point.
