So you don't want to race. After driving to the event, prepping and qualifying, you throw all that hard work away. Bonehead move. Now you load up and head back home with nothing to show for your effort. These teams must have a lot of money to throw away.
The sponsors got a lot of viewing time of their logos. A lot of views on UA-cam as well. If the saying "there's no such thing as bad publicity" that is up for debate. Both of these guys are spokesmen for their sponsors and they did nothing positive for them in this instance.

bruno did what he was paid to do, get his teammate the by run...games are played in motorsports every day, its what happens during heat wins that determines who wins the championship. if you watch closely, the elite team is clapping, high-fiving, etc while the burndown was happening...why do you think that was? because he did what he was paid to do.

Burn downs don’t happy every day but when they do they add some color to the event. History is part of what makes drag racing special and this was history in the making.
He wasn't going to give Mason a way out of racing him and potentially taking out Troy. He figured if Mason was too much of a pussy to prestage then he won't give him a reason. Elite Motorsports won this round by lack of inactivity and machoism.
When you're told to get your butt to the line and you don't do as your told by the one who literally controls the race then you deserve anything you get.. So in this case they both got a HUGE slice of humble pie which was served ice cold

What's odd is that Massel IS a great driver. Starting line tricks are as old as drag racing itself, especially if you know you have the slower car for a heads up race, but a 3 minute burndown that would have lasted longer if the starter hadn't intervened is not only inexcusable but potentially dangerous. I'll bet Richard Freeman (who runs Elite Motorsports) had a word or two with Massel afterwards and I'm surprised teenage Mason McGaha went along with it.....unless his old man told him to stage last no matter what.
Courtney can't help herself. Royce was having a blast. Rick Jones and Court were loving this. Erica's standing there trying to hold back because she knows if Mason doesn't race that's more points for her and Troy, less for him as he's a title contender in the countdown.
Personally I feel there was absolutely no excuse for this. While yes it may have been entertaining and fun for the fans I don't blame Brad Hardy for DQ'ing Bruno & Mason he & his fellow officials gave them orders multiple times to stage & they wouldn't budge whatsoever. Now if they would've done a burn down like Allan Johnson & Larry Morgan it could've made for an exciting race but instead Bruno & Mason decided to sit there & do NOTHING!

The advanatage went to Bruno's engine and car supplier Elite Motorosports and full time racer Troy Coughlin, Jr. Technically, Bruno saved Richard Freeman from having a competitor to race Troy in Round 2. They didn't know it but they had an idea that Troy being P1 would be P16 and race whoever got this one. Since no one did, Troy just had to walk his car down the track and he got a semi due to Mason's failure.

My local track wouldn't allow this. You had 45 seconds between bulbs. Then they cut it down to 30. If you're not there to race, get on the trailer.
