  • Learn how to easily crop and resize an image for any frame size you need, and how to print your image with the highest quality, using only the Crop Tool in Photoshop!
    When resizing an image for print, a problem we often face is that the aspect ratio of our image is different from the aspect ratio of the frame we want to place the image into. Since we can't change the frame size, we need a way to change the aspect ratio of the image. In this video, I show you how easy it is to both change the aspect ratio and resize your image for the highest print quality using Photoshop's Crop Tool! Let's see how it works. I'm using Photoshop CC but you can also follow along with CS6.

    Hi everyone, Steve here. In this video, I show you how easy it is to crop and resize your photos so they'll fit in any frame size you need, and how to make sure they'll print with the highest quality, using nothing more than the Crop Tool in Photoshop. We start with the reason why it can be a challenge to resize a photo to match your frame size, and why Photoshop's Image Size command doesn't really help. Then, we learn why the Crop Tool is the best way to crop and resize your photos all at once!
    You'll find the complete written version and PDF for this lesson on my website (bit.ly/2OIUCCS).

      Excellent and straight forward. Thank you. Should the image be converted into a smart object prior to resizing, in order to preserve original?

    Excellent video. Very clear, step by step instructions, not glossing over anything so I did not even have to rewind to review anything. Now I know how to resize correctly. Thank you so much.

    +Photoshop Essentials great video, thank you. The part where at 5:10 you mention that sometimes losing part of the image cannot be avoided -so there is absolutely no way/other way aside from what is covered in this video to somehow shrink an image to make it fit the aspect ratio/dimensions for printing? I am guessing not, its just that I am trying to print an image 7x5 and have followed the steps in this video but similary to at 5:10, I cannot fit the entirety of the image in, have to lose parts of the image :(..thanks a lot

    If I wanna keep more details using the preserve detail 2.0 option, how to proceed? (Considering that I would print in a large scale such as 10m*8m)

    Hi Steve. I paint watercolor landscapes and as the entire landscape is the subject, I really don't want to crop any of my image. I have some previously painted pieces that are 16 x 12 and others that are 14 x 10. Is there any way to resize both of these sizes to 14 x 11 (the size I prefer to print) without cropping or skewing the image??

    What happens if you crop without setting the resolution? Can you change the print resolution later without effecting the image.

    How to I save the file if I have to send to a printer? Like I don't want the size to change while saving it

    • @frmzwallarts9841
      @frmzwallarts9841 5 років тому +1

      Save it as a PDF with the highest resolution (no compression), you can send it as JPG too making sure you are keeping the Color profile checked, yes it may not be the best option but I have some great results with it as well. If file size isn't really a matter to you then definitely go PDF.

      @@frmzwallarts9841 Thank you, I needed to know this as well.
      However, when saving as jpg should the "Image Options" Quality of 12 Maximum also be selected?
      What "Format Options" should be selected?
      EDIT: Saving as ...PDF:
      Best Output Options?

    • @PhotoshopEssentialsChannel
      @PhotoshopEssentialsChannel  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, if you want to avoid stretching or squishing the image. The only other way to do it if you want to avoid cropping would be to add a border around the image so that the border is the same aspect ratio as the frame, and then the uncropped image would be displayed inside the border.
