Edge Of The Flats With A Bucket Of Pilchards

  • Headed about 150 yards from the shoreline at the edge of the flats where it drops off to Hawks Channel @ 20'. During the winter cold weather with the bait moving inshore, the larger species move up right to this edge to feed on bait schools. This makes a great short range trip as you are basically getting the same fish you would be catching at the reef 4 miles away but only having to go a football field away.

    Nice small shark. I am new to shark videos but it seems everyone leaves part of the hook in it with the outer side cut. Is this standard? Is that why we sometimes see picks of sharks swimming in the ocean with a hook stuck in the side of its mouth? Is it truly too hard to pull out like fisherman do with smaller fish?

    Great video. Love where you can see the shark eat whatever other fish you had on. Tip, you need to use much longer sections of wire. For spansh mackerel i use 18". You used less than that for a very large fish. The leader needs to be long enough that the fish can't tail whip your line. Tight lines!

    Steve, forgetting crucial fishing stuff? I noted some silver in your hair. Silver hairs are corpses of former memory cells. :) Do as I do....I kept finding myself at a launch without certain critical items. Solution was a checklist in my kayak's storage compartment. I go over it before I leave the house.

    • @KeyWestKayakFishing
      @KeyWestKayakFishing  6 років тому

      But you have to remember, how often I fish, how many different species I target, how many different locations, how many different conditions, how many different techniques, how many different modes of propulsion, the sizing of fish, the weather conditions, the seasonality, the legal requirements. It is not like taking a rod and a can of worms to the pond. Besides these videos are made for entertainment. Do you really want to just watch me reel in fish from start to finish. I think there is a proverb about throwing stones as well.
