i used to go to the greens to do cable in those projects ... crazy shit to see in those building and it suck to tell people that they could only get limited cable service due to the company not upgrading the system. i went inside some decent apartments and to some nasty ones. this kid i worked with got his truck broken into and the company fired him cuz of that, to bad the kid was not familiar with the projects at all cuz he was from Europe and wasn't familiar with Chicago. I felt bad for him
Glad to see you back. Always happy to see you pop back up. I grew up in Iowa right on the Mississippi River and we ended up taking a lot of residents that were displaced when they shut Cabrini down.
So glad you’re getting active again! Love your content. If CG was still occupied in this age of social media, and the madness surrounding the drill genre, no one will be able to live anywhere near there. They had to come down, although there should have been a better plan to transition the residents. In college, I did a CPTED (crime prevention thru environmental design) study on Cabrini, the score was in the 11th percentile on a scale of 100. Safety was nowhere to be found.

Cabrini green... I saw a documentary about that place. What your saying is true I remember the top cop saying they would be over there posted with their Handy dandy guns. Then on New years Eve and day they had a guy shoot a AK47 in the air while walking around. Even the mayor tried to take residency there but it didn't work at all😳
yep i talk about that in the vid, Jane Byrne for 3 weeks, and she had the rear door welded shut, then when she left the gangs copied that idea and welded all their doors shut
The way they had those apartments set up with holes in the wall to move through other apartments is dope. Did anyone ever hook up a big section of the apartments and make it look nice, like a luxury flat?
Its funny he mentioned the color banging still in the 90's. I drove past the Green's around winter of 1994 time frame and my red car was shot at. Now it was a fully tinted brand new 1994 Subaru with Oklahoma plates. At the time I was on leave from active duty cruising around the Chi. What makes it even more funny is I was an old school GD.. jumped in summer of 1979. I never put together the potential reason of my red car being the target based on the color alone & ironic enough most likely from 74 fire lol. Again where I grew up & timeframe it wasn't much around colors like LA was, it was more low key is a better way to explain the blue & black & red/black & honestly the CVL's with the Black/Gold represented their colors more than any organization in my opinion.
I remember those projects when I was kid, they were scary to even look at, I always remember the last one they took down, I was there week before they took It down, and they were still holding it, down in front
The projects being torn down did have alot to do with the eventual climb in crime again, it just took a minute for the energy to re adjust. As a black person, the community has always known that their is a difference between a "project kid" and a "block kid". There was definitely a difference back then in chicago. The project kid was raised off of survival in most cases and the block kid didnt have that kind of pressure and more were raised on love. This is not true all across the board but speaking from a macro point of view, its true and community knew that because we have family on both ends. When the buildings were tore down, all that energy was spread thrgh the city. It changed the culture. It changed the flavor of the gumbo (so to speak). Its kind of like taking inner city kids and taking to raise them in communities down state. It turns up the hood because those city kids have a different energy the local either are going to roll with or get rolled over.
It’s cliques because the structure is not there like it used to be. People was on count and had to conduct themselves a certain way of get a pumpkin 🎃 head!!
