I am proudly English without being British. Mother's people arrived on the Mayflower. And I've traced my father's back to the mid 1400s. A few of them were knighted.
Wow!! I'm truly impressed. The singing is so clear and crisp for such a large choir. The horn sections were off in moments but the choir made up of kids is truly on point. Very well done. I hope the kids in this video who are now young adults are all very proud of this performance.
Professor Snow merits ten stars for being able to get such a huge, mainly inexperienced ( I presume) choir to give such a wholehearted and resounding performance. Amazing, really.
fenackerpan None of these performers are inexperienced. I was in this choir and the audition process is exhausting. They pick the best of the best Iowa high schoolers.
Just because the audition process is extensive doesn't mean they are experienced. I also prepared for this year of All-State and now as a collegiate level musician and music major, I can confidently say that most people here are inexperienced. Most of them have only performed with their high school choirs and for a few honor choirs or All-State. I believe that the comment above is referring to the fact that these are not professional musicians, not that everyone is a newer singer. Also as far as picking the "best of the best", that is up for debate. It is possible that people could have a bad audition or simply not want to do All-state so they don't audition. The choir is very good, and for the most part, they are the best singers, but there are politics at play in the audition process as well. My Choral Methods class has discussed this extensively, that all auditions, especially All-State, are subjective.
It is heartening to see a large ensemble of youngsters singing that glorious coronation anthem by Handel. And in Iowa. IOWA! Corn pone Iowa! It seems, there are still pockets of hope for culture and civilization! The deadly daily deluge of pop culture and pop crap is the every prevailing menace.
Brilliant performance. The passion displayed by the choir was wonderful. I was particularly impressed by the young boy in the navy blue gown with yellow V around his chest. His passion was breath-taking! His expression was perfect! His eyes really symbolised what he was feeling. The camera was on him a few times for obvious reasons. Buddy I hope you're still involved with singing. He is first shown at 1:45. Great stuff!
That was amazing, such a fabulous piece of music, so brilliantly played and sang. The audience should have been on their feet. That was not easy to pull off, but they did it magnificently.
When this anthem was composed and first used at a coronation the American colonies were still British territories so these young people are singing music from their colonial heritage.
Trumpets a little flat, but a good effort all around. Composed for the coronation of HM King George 2nd and part of the coronation service (the anointing) ever since. So the monarch being acclaimed is British, with reference to Solomon. God save the King!
As an Englishman, I can say, with great authority, This truly is a very difficult Hymn, fore both choir and musician's. just two points, a full orchestra is required and the choir to add the latin "
Ahh, wonderful, wonderful. To think this is the culture with its history, traditions, and values that WOKE will destroy. As a former officer in the Canadian Armed Forces I can only say with all my heart and soul, God Save the Queen, God Bless Her!
The American Republic's civilization comes from Rome; it's culture comes from the UK. May we never lose this; color, gender, sexual identity has nothing to do with preserving the longest running government of the modern world. The USA is worth it and we are the UK's greatest child. This Minnesotan is so very proud of my fellow "hinterlanders."
They're all high school students, age 14-18, chosen by audition throughout the state of Iowa. I'm from Iowa, and I can tell you that school music programs are incredibly important in the state, especially in the small towns.
07/04/24: Iowa Public Television, showcasing their illiteracy. Who was "Zadok the Priest"? Who wrote this music, and when? Was this performed live or on video tape on 11/28/13? Dead silence. Ignorance is bliss.
It's a bit late for all that. We appreciate the sentiment but I'm sorry I'm afraid you can't come back. You've made your bed now you'll just have to lie on it. Anyway he won't be president forever, I'm sure you'll get over it eventually.
Hey! So I was actually in this choir, all of the different colors are the various schools in the choir. High school kids from all across the state auditioned to be in this choir and we were representing our schools! The medals are for how many years you’ve been accepted into the all-state choir
@@maryfrench8175 I see I thought the colours represented different fields of study or even sports . The choir were very good almost professional and a very good performance of Zadok the Priest sung when the Monarch is crowned during the coronation just after the anointing
Nicely sang, now repent your independence, republic ways and rejoin the United Kingdom under the Royal Crown of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the II. We can rename you the British County of America. 🤣😉
You know what’s weirder still? American schools usually play Pomp and Circumstance (Land of Hope and Glory) during graduation; it’s a British patriotic hymn. Furthermore, the tune of the American hymn “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” is patterned after God Save The Queen/King, the UK’s national anthem.
Nathan Why is it 'weird' Nathan? Handel wrote this anthem in 1727 for the coronation of King George II If you have studied your history you should know that the North American colonies were 'British' at that time.
Oh, la di da. Trumpets schmumpets. So the piece really pushes the abilities of high schoolers. You don’t listen to Zadok by high schoolers to see/hear a definitive performance, but rather to see the state of choral singing and instrumental playing among our youth. It seems to be certainly decent if this is any reflection. Zadok the Priests is a brutally difficult anthem-high lying vocal parts for sopranos and tenors, 16th note divisions at a brisk tempo for everyone, exposed instrumental sections for the orchestra, the list goes on. It had far more good points than bad. I could have done without the overly stressed K in Zadok. It actually ruined that spectacular soaring opening phrase by breaking the line. It almost sounds like the chorus was instructed to put in a 16th note rest. For you fuss pots out there, you can easily look up Voices of Ascension for an archive performance. Or about a hundred others.
Truly beautiful! I wonder if they know what this is! RIP Elizabeth II. God save Charles III.
I am proudly English. Proudly British. And yet I would die for anyone that needs the kind of freedom I love. God save the queen.
I am proudly English without being British. Mother's people arrived on the Mayflower. And I've traced my father's back to the mid 1400s. A few of them were knighted.
Everyone of the young people here should be proud this was an amazing rendition of this piece.
thanks😊
Simply great students ...... well done. Far from easy as I remember !.
Mind blowing!!! This is one of many reasons why we should never underestimate young people in any way. Well done
The moment when the choir starts (1:30) is awesome
WHD Studios Indeed they have

Wonderful to see a choir singing properly! With NO music. Off by heart. How refreshing.
Zadok the Priest, and Nathan the Prophet, anointed Solomon King!
That's a shame, this group of high school choir students gave one of the clearest & best performance of
this masterpiece I've ever heard.
I think the Riga Cathedral Choir School does it better.
@@lenroddis5933es. The Riga school's version is amazing

As someone who was in this choir, I can safely say this is not an inexperienced group of people, audition process notwithstanding.
Anyone making it to all state choir has been singing or performing since they were 5. Guarenteed
The BEST version I have watched yet!
Very powerful composition! ❤
Most impressive!!! Amazing rendition
God Save the Queen 🇬🇧🌹🇺🇸
Appreciate the very clear diction on the opening words.

Very impressive performance, clear and crisp young voices and very well trained. I'm amazed 👏 😍 ❤ 🙌 ♥
what a wonderful performance. Professor Sandra Snow guided this individuals so well, More of this please!
Absolutely gorgeous 😍
A very creditable performance, well done from am Englishman
It was amazing and took my breath away! I would have been on my feet applauding!
Regardless of how many times I listen to this classical, I get goosebumps. All hail Handel! 🎶🎶🎶❤️

This is how music should be made. I saw a lot of happy faces. Music is joy.
Anyone else enjoy the deliciousness of Americans singing "God Save the King"
Be very proud you young people.
So good to see there are no scores being looked at, and the concentration is on the conductor.

King George III would have been delighted that this song was played perfectly by his former british subjects.

So leisurely played. The music deserved more.
God Save The Queen

The next think you know, the All State Chorus would perform Parry’s iconic “I Was Glad” with the band.
Go Iowa! The graduation robes are great

This is awesome
Can I assume that they are a massed undergraduate choir and orchestra? If so, I think we can allow some leeway on a few mistakes here and there.

For a republic, U.S. choirs seem to go in for regalia in a big way - more so than U.K. choirs.
Red Chook i very much disagree, our choirs for royal attendance are of the upmost formally dressed on an unmatchably traditional level
This was written for the coronation of King George II. What i don't understand is why the yanks are singing a coronation anthem.
in secret they envy merry old england... :D
Maybe they just wanted to sing it?!
And it was written by a German. Americans can't appreciate good music?
Don't be such a prat.

Is there any black student at this choir?
Idk if it's just me but this seems a tad slow.
Scottx125 Productions yes it's kinda slow actually... While listening I was doing the tempo beating... Hehe

This is wonderful, but why is the conductor wearing a sweatsuit while her singers are all in choir robes?
Conductors always wear black.
A proud Englishman here thinking I’d be horrified. I was. The woodwind section was terrible
Are these Americans because this or the coronation anthem of the UK
Nathan Yes, an American choir singing the Coronation Hymn of the British Monarch.
CJ Elizalde-Spencer well that’s weird

Don't mean to be facetious but I find it ironic to hear Americans singing "God save the King, may he live forever"...well done though.
C’est gentillet mais c’est un peu approximatif et parfois pas tout à fait juste ... Dommage
Cela dit sans aucune prétention, ma chère.
Very armature
So is your spelling...
Horrible trumpets. Completely out of tune and simply unable to cope with that piece of music. Poor performance.
Trumpets were garbage but the choir was excellent
jochyii Agreed. They really took away from the performance. Also, a few entrances were iffy.
