  • KAMJATANG OR GAMJATANG is a spicy Korean soup made from the spine or neck bones of a pig cooked for long hours. Kamja or Gamja means potatoes in Korean, and Tang means soup, hence the name Kamjatang/Gamjatang literal translation is Potato Soup. Other ingredients include fermented soya bean paste, perilla leaves, green onions, hot peppers and ground sesame seeds.
Having a bowl of this soup in winter time would be hearty and comforting. The meal is usually served with side dishes like kimchi, cucumber, bean sprout and others and a bowl of rice. This steaming spicy soup is served as a lunch or dinner and often as a late night snack, as well. I can be a hang over soup, too.
The red colour soup base came from the red hot peppers.
