[4K] Welcome to the Blue Reef Aquarium Portsmouth, join us as we take you on an undersea adventure into a hidden world beneath the waves from the rich varieties of the waters of the UK to the beautiful tropical coral reefs home to hundreds of brightly colored fish.
Blue Reef Aquarium is a national chain of public aquariums owned by Astro Parks that offer immersive experiences for visitors to explore and learn about aquatic ecosystems. Founded in 2001, the first Blue Reef Aquariums were established in Tynemouth and Porstmouth, which were formerly Sea Life Centers. Since then, Blue Reef expanded to various locations across the United Kingdom, including Portsmouth, Newquay, and Hastings. These aquariums provide an engaging and educational environment for people of all ages to discover the diverse underwater world.
The Blue Reef Aquarium Portsmouth is located in Clarence Esplanade, Southsea, Portsmouth, England, that opened on 25 March 2002. Formerly home to the Southsea Sea Life Aquarium.
The aquarium has over 40 living displays, home to various species including tropical sharks, lobsters, seahorses, and tropical fish. Blue Reef Aquarium Portsmouth offers guests the ability to view a large ocean tank, with an underwater walkthrough tunnel that offers close encounters with reef fish.
In 2007, the aquarium opened the Blue Reef Beach Club, a new outdoor activity area incorporating a wet play zone for children with fountains and giant showers.

Solent Seas
The Solent is a waterway around 15-20 miles long in the English Channel that runs in along mainland Hampshire and out to the Isle of Wight. The Solent Seas are vast and beaming with life, all of which make up a very important ecosystem in Hampshire. The main categories are coastal, marine, freshwater, and wetlands - but also include reefs, rockpools, kelp beds, sea forests, sand and even deep-water corals!
Tropical Treasures
Tropical oceans encircle Earth in an equatorial band between the Tropic of Cancer (23.5° North latitude) and the Tropic of Capricorn (23.5° South latitude). One of the key features that make up these tropical environments are coral reefs. Coral reefs provide an important ecosystem for marine life, offering food and shelter among their crevices and branches for animals including fishes, molluscs, sea urchins and sponges. These reefs thrive in warm and clear water and rely heavily on the sun to grow.
Freshwater Fun
Freshwater is any naturally occurring water, that isn’t in the sea. It comes from sources like rainfall and moisture in the atmosphere. Unlike seawater, or ‘marine’ water, freshwater is much less salty (less than 1% salt content) and has very different temperatures, light, and vegetation.
Blue Reef Aquarium Portsmouth offers a variety of tickets, online standard tickets are £14 for adults and £11 for juniors and £48 for a family of 4. Prices may be more expensive if purchased on the door.
