    Keeping this excellent lesson in mind, one of the foremost considerations in a classic swing is maximum shoulder turn.

    Nice, simple video. I struggled with this heavily for seasons while having no issue whatsoever with my irons (I mean, I have issues with my irons-just not relating to over-swinging). What fixed it for me was an extra-stiff shaft on my driver. I had previously had normal flex, and my quick swing was not complimenting that shaft pliancy at all. I had to swing much slower and concentrate very hard on locking my wrists every time I drove the ball. It made my game very disjointed because it created a huge difference between my driver swing and iron swing. The extra-stiff shaft completely resolved all that noise for me. Good luck, cheers.

      Lovely Video clip! Excuse me for chiming in, I would love your opinion. Have you thought about - Paneevelyn Swinging Clubsman (google it)? It is a smashing one of a kind product for revealing an effortless golf swing technique without the normal expense. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my m8 at very last got cool success with it.

    Great video Pete- a question from an amateur across the pond: how do you draw a line between "enough" hip turn in the back swing and "too much" hip turn? If the power comes from the lower half / hips, doesn't more hip turn allow for more power? At what point is it detrimental?

    • @andytitcomb9463
      @andytitcomb9463 8 років тому

      Great question I was thinking the same thing, and what will the over rotation of the right hip cause?

    • @gbvoul
      @gbvoul 8 років тому

      +Bug M power from the hips comes from the turn through the ball, toward the front foot. you can't create near as much coil if your hips over rotate on the back swing.

    • @peterfinchgolf
      @peterfinchgolf  8 років тому

      +Bug M the hips need to stay relatively still (they will turn a bit but hopefully no more than half as much as the shoulders) because they lead the downswing creating coil between the two

    Interesting. When I recently got fitted for my new irons, my fitter explained to me that I was going way past parallel. He had me shorten up my swing some. Even though it felt that I was barely taking the club back he was saying that there were still times I was going past. I didn't notice any loss of distance when I finally grooved it in. Just more consistent in my carry yardages. The overswing was making it difficult for me to make solid contact. Now I'm able to find the center of the club face and still get my yardages

    Cracking drills . 2 fixes for me right knee flex and I have 2 much wrist hinge. . Will work on them and see how it goes.

  • @halti3
    @halti3 6 років тому

    Took me a couple of years to see this. My bad! The key thought I would most love to emulate from your swing is your tempo. I think my BIG problem is that I take the club away (primarily the driver) too fast, creating so much momentum at the top that it causes the left arm to break down and the left wrist to hinge excessively. When timing is on, I can hit it straight and to the horizon (slight exaggeration ;-) ). But, when timing is off, even if only a fraction, I haven't a clue where the ball is going. What drill(s) do you recommend to slow the swing down (especially on the takeaway), to help achieve (at least to some level) your wonderful tempo? Thanks!

    For me restricting the turn doesn't work. I struggled with over rotation of the hips and a late wrist set so the club would have to catch up at the top of my swing and my arms would get way behind me on the downswing.
    Best thing for me was Monte Sheinblum's 'no turn & cast' drill. You simply set the wrists and put the club into position and let your body react by turning, no restriction required. Still using it (and the cast part) as my only swing thought and shooting the best scores of my life.

    I have the worlds biggest over swing, half the time it works really well for me so I think why change it and then there are times when I can't hit anything straight but I put that down to just having a bad day. I guess I should start working on fixing it if I want to improve my game

    Been working on this for years because of a " friendly tip" I was given on the range 10 years ago when I started. When either my to,I got is good or I don't do it my game is very good. But when it is bad my game is terrible . My instructor has given me freak drills and I have progressed well again this year but sometimes I regress.

    So my overswing causes me to start the downswing over the top if I swing with my feet together I stay on plane and make good penetrating contact.... only issue is I can't stop the overswing when my stance is correct.

    As a young golfer with bendy bones and muscles my arms go miles behind parralel and i have found being to long makes the club come in close resulting in slicing the ball also resulting in a sore back

    I pretty much over swing because of the the First one

  • @27eharkness
    @27eharkness 7 років тому

    So let me get this straight: overswinging comes from 1) over rotation of lower body 2) bending of left arm and/or 3) breakdown of wrists. The cure: stop doing those things. Got it 👍🏻

      Keith Jones im here watching a video about not over swinging thinking to myself I will never shorten my back swing. Grip it and rip it man. Oh yeah when i shorten mine with long irons it helps. But i have to swing extremely flat for it to work. Otherwise long back swing like Bubba W for me and i hit it 300+ on average

    What a long-winded explanation as to why one overswings. Is that guy a coach? In my opinion, he is definitely not. I would have taken one min to explain an overswing and the cure to fix it. In other words, get to the f...king point.
