One of my favorite songs not only by him but of all time. Sometimes it scares me how much I relate to his music. He has a song for every mood with lyrics that can be interpreted a million different ways, custom fit for whatever life just threw at you. That is what makes him and his music so great and why he's still very relevant after all these years and will be for many more.
He actually wrote this song in rehab, and it was one of his first songs he wrote after he overdosed he told Vibe magazine that this song is the only one he kept from the recordings he made during that dark period in his life. He explained: "One of the only reasons that I put that track on there is that I feel like it's the best song out of that batch that I did when I wasn't sober. At the time I felt like, 'This is it for me.' I wrote the first verse and a half in rehab, and when I came out, I finished it. It was the only song that marks that period without bringing me back to that place. Every other track not only didn't fit with the album, but when I listened to it, it would bring up bad memories."
He began writing the first verse when he entered Brighton Rehab in 2005. The song itself was recorded in 2007 before the overdose and was the last song that was produced with Jeff Bass that were released.
@@TroyBakerMusic He only do the drums and sample. Keyboards: Jeff Bass & Luis Resto. Bass and Guitar: Jeff Bass My Darling and Careful What You Wish For are also produced by Eminem and Luis Resto
that third verse hit me like a hurricane the first time I ever heard it. Like he was singing specifically about me. This song is one of those [songs] that never leaves you, u know...
“Don’t let them say you ain’t beautiful. They can all get fucked, just stay true to you.” Respect. Glad he made it out of that really dark place. He is a legend and a GOAT, and all the stuff he made after Rehab would not exist if he didn’t make it and that would be a shame. So much great music would have been lost.
This is why Em's music is so " beautiful", he literally has music for every single mood, every single person out there. That's also why he has the literal army of a fan base that he has. He's always open and transparent with us since day one. And I'm not entirely sure, but I think this was around the time of his drug use ( or just getting out of it, trying to learn how to rap again) and also around the time his best friend in the world, Proof died. RIP Big Proof 🙏
Typing this before watching the video, this song is SO UNDERRATED. Honestly, I attribute this song and a few others are really saving my life as a kid. When em says ‘maybe help some kids get through tough times’ in Rap God, this song was that moment for me. Love him, so much. Great song. I don’t know if you’re watching the full version though. The videos on UA-cam for this song often cut out the middle verse. Please, please, please check it out if it’s not in this one 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

This song really got me through some hard times. I discovered I had depression. I always had it but I masked bc I had passion and anger. The fire of anger but I started to heal & stopped being angry but without the anger all that was left was depression. So the next step was dealing w the depression and healing that
Dude this song got me through so much and now as I get older it reminds me of how far I've come the man can write classics and legendary music when he puts his personal heart and soul into it
This is definitely a love song for Detroit. The video was filmed in some of the most iconic Detroit locations: Michigan Central Station, the Packard Automotive plant, and Tiger Stadium in the final stages of demolishment.
I like to write poetry and short stories, and some of my best stuff came when I was in dark places mentally. My friends will be like "that's beautiful" and I smile and think "you have no idea where that came from"
