Dr. Strangelove is the most important movie ever, and even if it wasn't, it would be my favorite movie. The importance is that Kubrick, by creating this film, opened the eyes of so many people, including policymakers, to the absurdity of resorting to nuclear weapons. I hope people keep watching it. There are a lot of bombs out there.
Well, movie-wise, Peter Sellers is (I think) the acknowledged superstar of Dr S. But I feel like pointing out how amazingly hilarious George C Scott was. Perfect comic timing, of course, and no doubt realized by the amazing directorial skills of Stanley Kubrick.
Sort of it was realized by Kubrick, but he just let George c Scott riff and a lot of what you see is him going way over the top and trying whatever they think might work. As much of a control freak as Stanley Kubrick was as a director, this was one of the films where he really let his actors explore.
Slim Pickens was a legit cowboy as being a rodeo clown requires knowing the thinking and moves of rodeo livestock well enough to distract them away from a fallen rider, putting themselves in the greatest risk of harm instead of the rider. He showed up for Blazing Saddles with his own horse and camped out at the set while other actors and crew stayed in regular accommodations. He was a great actor who appeared in many classics, including the original Ocean's Eleven with the Rat Pack.
My Dad was a career nuclear submariner. He was an FBM (Fleet Ballistic Missile Submarine), executive officer and a commander. All through the 1960's and early 1970's. It was, and is a very serious mission to be on those patrols. This was the main arm of the Nuclear Triad that included airborne bombers, land based missile silos and the Navyl's submarine force. Although SAC (Strategic Air Command) is long gone, the submarine arm of the Triad is still actively involved in nuclear deterrence. Great movie with a poignant message. Mr. Kubrick at his finest.

what funny is that the same thing is happenning today
Kids these days are all stressed and whiny about climate change, which may effect their children decades from now. They don't know what stress is. Their (grand)parents lived with the possibility that they could be vaporized tomorrow. To this they say, "OK, Boomer." To them I say let's force you onto a bus, subject you to 6 weeks of intense physical training, then we'll fly you halfway around the world, put a machine gun in your hands, and tell you to kill those guys before they kill you. That's stress, and there was no "safe space."
no more than ten..twenty million killed TOPS! err depending on the breaks!
hiding under the desk was always intended to instill fear in the children so that they would grow up to support huge military budgets and the military industrial complex.
Spike Lee...gimme a break !! Who let him in on this??? All he needs is loose shoes and a warm place to shit....Jeez...!!
And here we are again in 2022 with our current president sabre-rattling about a nuclear response in Ukr@ine. 😖
The addition of Spike Lee adds nothing, even detracts from the featurette. Lee is a racist.
Somebody around here is racist, but it's not Spike.
Spike Lee is a joke.
The movie should be shown to some of our warmongering congressmen, as well as to the moronic military "specialists" ie, generals, in the Pentagon. Sorry, I was assuming they are intelligent and capable of thinking.
Now, it's 2021. Nobody is intelligent. Or capable of thinking.
What makes you assume they haven't seen it? Politicians are a uniquely awful species, but they haven't started a nuclear war yet.
Sorry SPIKE, it's not Bush who we should have worried about, it's president Brandon and his merry band of military industrialists, who talked lightly abour the Ukranians wagíng nuclear war against the Russians that is the problem, as well as people like YOU (and all your smugness) who wouĺd JUSTIFY and DEFEND such an action, simply because it was the Democrats' idea.
You had me interested until that scammer Woodward.
And that idiot racist Lee
The more I see about nuclear weapons the more I understand about how fake they are, this movie is amazing, but is propaganda fear mongering...

And there were more, much more, if you count for every single false "missile start", you come into the thousands. Imagine the good things you could've done with that money, work, ingenuity - this could've been a different world, wouldn't it not been for the old stone heads full of greed. And that's what they will say about our time, too, in the furture, and so on. Change it, little by little, care for your neighbors, try to avoid the worst products, be a little less cynical, help each other, don't fall for the hate-propaganda, trust your own human sense - just for all who didn't get the message. And care for your bodily fluids.
