Hellfire:
This was the very first thing I wrote when the pandemic hit in early 2020. I knew I wanted to do another Haunted Shores record, and the overall ugliness of this one kind of set the tone for the rest of the songs. I had just upgraded my recording setup at home, which allowed me to focus more on composing riffs and sections piece by piece into a DAW, rather than just noodling, writing a riff, then recording it on my phone and bringing it to the band, which is a process I had relied upon up until that point. This new workflow, along with trying to improve at programming drums and bass, and a tuning that was super inspiring for me (drop G on a 6-string, or "Reptile" tuning), really lit the fire for this song and much of the record. I wanted these songs to be a bit of a nod to 90's black metal and 80's thrash, two styles of music that pre-date my love for progressive metal. This was the first one written in that spirit. Our idea to begin the record with forest ambience and a lo-fi band playing sloppily is a direct reference to Ulver's "Nattens Madrigal", which as legend has it, was recorded on a 4-track in the woods. Who knows if that's true or not? It's almost funnier if it was complete bullshit.

The only vocals I wanna hear on this is either Ihsahn, Devin Townsend, or Shagrath.
One of these things is not like the other. Shagrath has failed to do anything noteworthy since Spiritual Black. Ever since then, he has become about as monotone as one can get, which is fine if what the vocalist is producing is strong (Maniac). But there’s no effort in what Shagrath does anymore. Dimmu has suffered for a very, very long time now.

God I wish I could get that tone on my hx stomp. I have the Mark Holcomb 7 string and the pickups sound amazing but with the hx is so hard to get a similar tone.

I do hope they release it with his new pickups though I believe the color is tramways green cause I will literally sell my car to buy it
@@joehertel8846 Yes i stand corrected. Found them on Ish guitars. Two limited editions. One in Trampas green and the other with cocobolo top i believe. Like you i want them to bring the green to the production line but guess it’s not going to happen.

Actually it’s much simpler than it appears to be, as long as you understand theory…cuz all he’s doing when he’s “sliding” all up the neck is actually just creating accents of the chord he starts with, using pretty much the same notes, sometimes maybe starting with a triad of some kind, like a simple major or minor chord and expanding it to a Maj7 chord or a sus2/add9 chord or min6 chord…those are a few of his go to chords I’ve found. Once you realize that, it makes figuring out his riffs much easier.
Then of course there’s the huge difference between saying and doing, like being able to play one of these “chords” spread out over like 10 frets, without fucking it up lol. Honestly, that ends up being the real hard part.
