England national coach, John Griffiths, delivers an out-of-possession session with our U17 Women's team, focusing on preventing forward play.
Throughout the three practices in this session, players will develop an understanding of:
- roles and responsibilities of the first and second defender
- preventing forward play by defending early
- forcing play backwards and sideways
- why control of deceleration and movement are key to 1v1 defending
- setting traps to intercept forward passes
- using intelligent recovery runs.

“Mirror with their head” that’s VVD way to defend 1v1. Session was done with F2
I was thinking the same thing. That's a good technique
Hate hands behind the back when defenders are in their own box. I know why defenders do it but I think the defender being off balance aloes the attacker to dribble past.
