Very helpful video, all 4 of my wires were damaged...connected them together and now my trunk opens with the fob and the trunk release button inside the car. Thanks so much! I have a 2008 Dodge Charger by the way.
Thanks Clay for this helpful video. Of the 4 wires in the rubber "snorkel" 3 were broken due to being too small and the insulation too hard. I did it differently by inserting new wires through the tube, a few inches longer at each end. I used a slightly larger gauge and a much more flexible insulation. 4 different colors of course. Pulled the wires through with one of those long, flexible grabby tools. Did a splice that's parallel with the wire and insulated with shrink wrap. When the tube is replaced into the 2 holes, the splices are well outside the tube so that only the new, softer wires will be flexed. No wrapping with electrical tape needed.
Muchas gracias.
Awesome I've been tryin to figure this out for awhile. Dealer said it was the latch and wanted $160 to fix. I found that all the wires were broken. explains why the 3rd break light didn't work also
Have a 2010 dodge charger and have the sam problem. Finally looked at the wiring and ALL wires are cut, I mean all. So now i have to repair this and hopefully it works again. Thanks for the video...😉
MA Hogan mine are all cut too. I'm not sure what the 2 purple and 2 black wires are and am afraid of matching the wrong ones with each other and shorting something out
Happened to my Charger also! A reminder to those in the north, ice will build up in this area causing pitching and severed wires when closing the deck lid so be conscious of this
This helped. I had three wires cut in there. I connected the wires back. They didn't reach anymore so i had to ad in some wire to each. Does each line have to be wrapped with electronic tape separately or can they all be wrapped together?
I have a 2006 300 and was having the exact same problem with my trunk. I checked the wiring at this same spot and found 2 wires, purple and yellow, broken. I added about 6 inches of extra wire to each of these 2 wires and used crimp connectors for the repair. Trunk pops open now with the button inside of my car and with the key fob like it should. The yellow wire is the one that feeds the actuator btw.
I'm having cthis problem. Just got a 2010 sxt and every wire is severed. Any idea how to identify what wire goes to what? The green and the yellowish is obvious to solder but there is two black and two purple and am afraid of crossing them and burning something out please help!
Thank you this happened to my 06 chrysler 300 ALL MY WIRES WERE BROKEN splice them back , some electrical tape and it worked , how do i prevent this again , i did a cheap bandaide not a perm fix
Great VIDEO! I just wish you would have showed the button & fob working properly after you fixed the wires (But Still) A Great Video) I'm having this exact issue with my Chrysler 300c?
When my trunk is closed, neither the key fog nor the release button inside the car will activate the release switch on the trunk. However, when the trunk is already open (after I use the key), the latch will make a noise when I depress the trunk opening button on my key fob. I have replaced the wires in the past (becuase as the author mentions the wiring design is horrible), but not sure why the release only works when the lid is open. I will be going thru the wiring harness again today and see if there is a crimp that may not allow the signal to get thru when the trunk is closed.
So I replaced the whole trunk on my Dodge Charger and it will not close the button works to release it but the truck will not catch to close please help
Just bought a 2009 Charger was wondering why my trunk wouldn't open was heading back to the dealer I purchased it from but if it's that simple I'll save the gas and fix it myself
Saved me at least $120 + 3 hours going to the dealer. Fixed it in less than 20 minutes for free!. Thanks!

Literally had the exact same problem, same wire, same place. You saved my day.
Ditto... BUT 3 wires have been severed on mine... this should have been a recall by Dodge IMO...
@@ferdinandjarquio751 I agree!

THANKS FOR THE UPLOAD I HAVE AN 06 AND I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM
Do I need to unplug battery before twisting the wires up
You where right on the mark, thank you
Oh my! I think this is why mines won't work. What did you use to connect the wires before sealing with electrical tape?
Great VIDEO! I just wish you would have showed the button & fob working properly after you fixed the wires (But Still) A Great Video) I'm having this exact issue with my Chrysler 300c?
My key does not work in the trunk because the lock cylinder won't move. How do I get the trunk open to check the wires?
When my trunk is closed, neither the key fog nor the release button inside the car will activate the release switch on the trunk. However, when the trunk is already open (after I use the key), the latch will make a noise when I depress the trunk opening button on my key fob.
