After all these times of watching this Let’s Play, I finally figured out why the look of Gran’s face creeps me out. It’s because it looks so similar to the head of the navigator in The Secret of Monkey Island!
3:26 here we find the inherent problem of recording the actors in separate locations at separate times. Tim Curry pronounces the word “Schattenjäger” correctly. Linda Gary does not. Gabriel doesn’t correct his gran cuz he’s not there with her. And before you say “Well she’s a southern belle so of course she’ll drawl the word in her own accent,” Gran claims to have heard her husband - a native born German - say “Schattenjäger” in his sleep often. Often enough that it formed a memory in her head. When you only hear a word, and never see it written, it becomes very unlikely you’ll mispronounce it later. Even years later. If the actors recorded their dialogue together, as is sometimes done for big Pixar productions or TV cartoons, the issue gets resolved after rehearsal or the first take. If whoever directs the actors is the same person at every session, and is paying attention to this obviously important foreign-language word that forms the basis of a game puzzle, said director would’ve known the right way to say “Schattenjäger” and then corrected Linda Gary. If the production staff had prepared notes for the talent, including a pronunciation guide, this doesn’t happen. But since video game dialogue is often recorded on the cheap - in many locations (to prevent the costly flying and accommodating of actors), at many sessions over weeks or months, and often using local, contract production staff who have no connection with the creative elements of the project and just want to deliver clean recordings - we get immersion-breaking moments like this, where two characters are obviously not talking to each other. Just two actors reading words off a page. It’s a little thing but it bugs the shit outta me.
When the game becomes the final product though, there should be someone catching something like this when they do a play through before it gets released, and they should make the quick fix at that point. But you do have to cut them a little slack. At the time this game was made, they did a tremendous job overall putting it together.
The other thing about it is the voice actor or actress themself should have cared more about making sure that they pronounced words like that correctly and checked with whoever they needed to, to confirm it before they recorded the lines. For instance, if I saw a line like that with that word..I would immediately think..ok..i should make sure I'm pronouncing this correctly or at least the same way as whoever the dialog was with pronounced it. The script made is very obvious that whoever she was conversing with had just said it..because she starts the sentence by saying the word as a question in a way that signifies that she (not just his grandma but the actress who played her also) knew it was immediately in response to Gabriel saying the word right before that. I know it's not the "job" of the voice cast to do this..but it's a really simple thing. If you are unsure of the correct pronunciation of the word or at least to keep the pronunciation fluent with the way the other character had just pronounced it, then simply ask. Then those people there who you stated wouldn't have any clue about the plot of the game or pronunciation of these words (also something that shouldn't be the case just by common sense)..they could just check with someone who would know and the issue would be fixed right then. But either way there's a lot of different ways to fix an issue like this. The creators of the script could have easily thought of this beforehand as a potential issue as well especially when they wrote that particular sequence of dialog with that particular word being used.

Anyways, I have a whole extended family in the "south" that are prime examples of "fine southern cuisine" haha. I must admit though, its gooood food, even if a bit heavy in the stomach.

I've seen thermostats in locked, clear plastic cases. It's likely to prevent people from messing with it without permission.

Speaking of the police department's music, when speaking to Mosely in GK3 you hear the same music, I think it's nice touch.
