    DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT use this (or any brand of extension cable) at a Tesla Supercharging station! They are not designed to handle the much higher amount of electrical current those chargers generate. You will cause the cable to overheat and possibly cause a fire! USE ONLY AT HOME!

      Very good advice! I hope someone does not try this! And I wonder if the supercharger could detect this and prevent this.

    $300 cable but I can see how it can help some people. Def good to have as an option!

    In Europe we have Type 2 cables. Some chargers do not have cables on them at all, and you have to carry a cable around.
    They usually come in 4 variants:
    1 phase 20A (rare)
    3 phase 20A (semi common)
    1 phase 32A (many vehicles use these)
    3 phase 32A (most useful option)
    PP has a resistor that rates the cable on the both sides, so both the car and the charger know what cable can take:
    1k5 is 13A
    680 is 20A
    220 is 32A
    100 is 63A (70A single phase).
    You can daisy chain them, if you remove 12mm of plastic on charger side of the cable (CP pin is made short on purpose). But having charger-thick-thin-thick-car is dangerous situation, because both the car and the charger do not see thin cable in between, both can allow 32A of current and it may cause fire.

    Next they need to come out with a liquid cooled cable setup for level 3 charging.

    Also good to bring with you. I don’t know how many times I’m on a trip and go to a Hampton inn and the destination chargers are iced. You could easily reach over to a free spot

    Or just move the wall charger and skip messing with yet another cable. Looks like you only need another foot. I'd put it on the other side of that doorway.

      My wall charger is hardwired into the wall. Hiring an electrician to add metal conduit and extend the wires would be more trouble than it’s worth. With this extension cord I can take it with my mobile charger to the camp site or wherever.

    Great video. Lectron is a great quality brand. I just bought a Toyota RAV4 hybrid Prime which is plugin. Lectron makes an adapter that fit on my Tesla level 2 charger which I can plug in to RAV4 which charging goes from 10 hrs 120 volt to 2 1/2 hours with adapter.

    Sadly when we were traveling the hotel Tesla Destination Chargers were ICE'd. This extension cord would have saved the day. I'd use it as a LAST RESORT. I will have to consider adding this to my travel accessories given all the ICE'ing we have encountered.

    You do realise that mobile charger is not designed for North America? It clearly says 240VAC 50Hz. The big problem with that is it's not designed for a centre tapped 240V source - it's designed for a bonded neutral earth connection with the 240V sitting all on the active. So while you're only feeding it 120VAC it will work. But never feed it 240 as 120 + 120...

    If you get a chance to test drive the model 3 highland base model. I like to know what you think of the base model music quality. Is it close enough to your current long range.

    • @BecauseTesla
      @BecauseTesla  9 місяців тому +1

      It does sound better than the factory stereo of older Model 3, but my car’s music system sounds great because I replaced all my speakers with Light Harmonic carbon fiber speakers (I have a few videos on my channel about them). But yeah, highland sounds great. One of the reasons is because it has more sound deadening all around.

    • @BecauseTesla
      @BecauseTesla  9 місяців тому +1

      I wish they made one that industrial to handle the current of a Supercharger, but this one will only support level 1 and 2 charging. Those V3 Supercharger cables are liquid cooled!

  • @matshagstrom9839
    @matshagstrom9839 4 місяці тому

    My main reason for looking at this is to figure out how to deal with charging at superchargers when towing a trailer. I’m going to assume the super charger will accept the extension cord so I can pull into superchargers nose first

    • @BecauseTesla

      The “Charger” is built into the car, not the cable or wall mounted unit.

  • @CncObsession

    It is about F'ing time! It could also be used at the SC when using a bike rack or even a trailer.

    • @BecauseTesla
      @BecauseTesla  9 місяців тому +4

      I wouldn't recommend using this at a supercharger. This is meant for Level 1 and 2 chargers. The V3 Supercharger cables are liquid cooled, among other things, to manage the heat produced by supercharging. This extension cord isn't made for that. I wish it was, but I think it will be up to Tesla to update their superchargers with longer cords.

    • @BecauseTesla
      @BecauseTesla  5 місяців тому +2

      Assuming you have a NEMA 14-50 outlet, which I do not. It would be more expensive to hire an electrician to install the outlet and then an extension cord. My wall charger is hardwired, so this NACS extension cord is cheaper for me.

      @@BecauseTeslayup every situation is different because my electrical box is on the other side of my house opposite of the garage so it’s like 1,500 to get a nema-1450 installed in my garage so I’m trying to just get one installed by my box and just extension cord it and charge in my driveway
