hey alvin, im doing the 5k/half double at long beach and wanted to pick your brain on executing this. im planning on racing both which i expect to come at some expense of my half marathon performance. you hit a low 18 5k and a 1:23 half - did you go all out on the 5k? either way, how much do you feel the 5k took away from your half marathon performance? do you do anything in particular to make sure you're as fresh as possible going into the 2nd race?? i think racing the 5k will take 3-5 min off my time but if really fatigued, as much as 20 (musculoskeletally limited). the 3-5 min has no basis on experience but the 20 min estimate comes from me trying a long run with fartleks the day after a recent 5k.
Good question! I'd say I went about 90% at the OC 5K and 75-80% at the OC Half. For me, I wouldn't say the OC 5K had much impact, but it might've in a way that I don't realize it. But I think sleep is definitely one of the main things I try to get as much of before races. Hope you have a good race!
thanks for posting this.. there were so beautiful views.. i ran the full and already miss that :)
