John should do a self defence instructional series. I would love to hear and see his perspective on the topic. Unfortunately self defence is being overlooked and forgotten in Jiu Jitsu.
Let me answer this with a bit of insider info. He will make a series on self defense specifically. He has a unique take to it but this will be one of the last series he does.
Look up Randy Rozzell. He was a navy seal combatives instructor and a black belt. He created a system of self defense for the most intense battlefield situations
Sometimes I play out self-defence scenarios in my head (which jiu-jitsu athlete hasn't?) with them occasionally ending in an Americana. I hadn't realized its devastating potential, and I don't think that I'll look at it the same way again. It makes sense why physical conflict is best avoided outside of the proper venues.
I've been training for a month, and for a while the only submission I knew was the Americana. I've managed to get it to work a few times by pinning the other arm to the mat with my legs. The way I did it was different to how it was shown here. I'm going to have to explore this method, and see if I get more success with it.
This was super interesting to watch 😆 I feel like we’ve all decided it didn’t work or was just some heavyweight white belt sh*t at some point side crucifix is an interesting counter to the turn out
Tips he doesn't really cover here: (1) yes pinning the far side shoulder is essential (2) it's easier to start with the underhook rather than trying to force your arm under his elbow (3) use your head to assist with pinning down his arm (4) motorcycle grip your c-clamp hands by twisting both wrists forward to add great strength (5) paint the back of his hand to the mat (6) keep his arm close to his body (7) don't lift his elbow at first, instead keep his hand painted to the mat and bring his elbow down toward his hip, and then lift his elbow if needed at the end.
It's interesting because the way john does the americana, is how it's done in classical jujutsu etc. Holding the back of the hand instead of the wrist I think they modified the gripso that you could do it with mma gloves on? It's the same with the kimura grip
Bernardo: I agree with you that the percentage of americanas in tournaments overall is very low, but if you only analyze white belts I think it's very high 😂 12:36 Lol i am a white belt and i hit it twice in comp. I am not gonna give it up either because building up from that is how I developed my armbar and kimura. Of course it is not gonna be the only thing i work off of but it is one of my faves 🇺🇲🇺🇲
I just taught this to a beginner's class, and the way I do Americana most people tap without the elbow even coming off the mats. It's an insane submission if you can set it up properly. Ironically, my Kimura is pretty sh*t.
They're mostly low percentage BS that CACC guys love to talk about because they can't be competitive in any sport so they need "their" stuff which they advertise with its supposed brutality, every beginner is excited about these new shiny objects before they move on to the "boring" stuff that works according to statistics and reality 😂 some never get out of that and end up doing weird catch wrestling videos and typing in the comments that BJJ guys are soft, while they have no competition record in any sport. But hey, they can spine lock their non resisting 120 lbs student/friend on video 😎
Not gonna i got a bit scared in the beginning when John just calmly goes in depths about actually breaking peoples arms with intention to do serious damage 😮
Heavyweight white belts clicked on this fast as hell
As a 100.5kg white belt 1 stripe i feel guilty!😂
Problem?
LAMAO that's me rn
You’re a wisard
Yeah I did !!!

First feet to floor volume has some elements of it!
@@i8fish He’s already done it, bro. Buy and watch the Feet Floor series. Each series ends with a comprehensive self-defense session.

@@TheDanielmeeks Do you train with John?

I had pretty much taken the move out of my arsenal - now it's time to put it back in!
I'm a purple belt and I use it often when I want to win.
A good exemple of using americana from mount as a faint.
Pride 24 Minotauro vs Dan Henderson round 3.

Come back to reality with us buddy, sport Jujitsu isn't gonna help you out in many scenarios outside of the mat
@@darrenphillips2188 I'll take my chances against an untrained opponent (if it comes to that).
My humble opinion - the Americana becomes very high percentage if you first isolate , or render useless, the secondary arm
Yep, I land it at a high percentage. I like it because of the two on one scenario.
Totally agree main issue with it is that its taught as a single move with isolation of near arm
What's your favorite way of isolating the secondary arm?
@Leitefsj , I do it from side control, and I'll use body weight to move the arm.
How would you isolate the second arm from mount?
I can watch these alll Day
Danaher eliminated the owner of that phone after the video
how do u know? what submission did he use?
@@teena-tz7lr He slapped him, just like he used to do to Placido, to move him.
@@Leitefsj ok ty
Classic Placido, squishing his arm against his knee to make his arm look bigger cuz he's trying to show off his gym gains
LMAO!
Amazing
PEDS 🤣
Bernardo, this looks great - when will John's video on the American lock be available to purchase from BJJ Fanatics?
Its ude gatame not any horseshit american lock.
Maybe by the time you're watching it's already there
John is always giving us something, thank you. 🙏
came for Americana , learn arm wrestling tips 😂😂😂
Literally... Make Americana Great Again
How is this not the #1 joke of the comment section? John Danaher 2024!

As an armwrestler… yes
Man that arm wrestling reference was genius. Devon talked about it
@7:18 Danaher finally starts showing the move.
I saw Tony Cecchine demonstrating this variation first in Catch Wrestling
Tips he doesn't really cover here: (1) yes pinning the far side shoulder is essential (2) it's easier to start with the underhook rather than trying to force your arm under his elbow (3) use your head to assist with pinning down his arm (4) motorcycle grip your c-clamp hands by twisting both wrists forward to add great strength (5) paint the back of his hand to the mat (6) keep his arm close to his body (7) don't lift his elbow at first, instead keep his hand painted to the mat and bring his elbow down toward his hip, and then lift his elbow if needed at the end.
I’m sure he leaves out details to say “buy my dvd” Lol
painting the mat is not the ideal way.
@KP-wi6in can you explain? Would love to learn
I feel like Tony Cecchine helped popularize that motorcycle grip wrist thing from Catch Wrestling. He also has an instructional on bjjfanatics.
Lol.. 'My OpiNion iS hE mIsSEd..."

Is Placido brazilian? His accent in that "brigado" was spot on.

The first comment! Always a Danaher fan.❤
Johns been watching catch wrestling again.
Gold!
We need John’s self defense videos asap 👀
He basically just re-brands catch wrestling techniques that are hundereds of years old as his own.
could bro filming breathe any louder 😭
Haha I think that's Placido as John crushes him
I know I had good success if I could pin down the opposite arm with my shin in mount.
I also had a reasonably good defense to it. I did
Am I wrong or Jon Jones finished Victor Belfort with an Americana in their title belt? Joe Rogan narrating saw a kimura, but it was not...
Camera man fighting for his life :D
I see Danaher, I click. Simple as.
Over half of my competition wins were by Americana

Placido instructional. Master the mullet.
Flacido is constantly touching his foot.
Then, when Bernado suggested a handshake,
he used that hand on his foot.
Lol.
Can you please ask John to make an instructional about neck cranks / face locks / jaw crushes ?
Look up the snake pit, catch wrestling and Eric Paulson.

John needs to do bjj for mma
U know he was GSP's main coach, right?
Really need to get rid of this cameraman. He's constantly breathing so hard. It's annoying. If I wanted to hear darth vader, I'd watch star wars.
That’s John he talks that much he doesn’t breath then takes a massive inhale…. Weird guy
Where’s Devon Larratt. I want to know if he confirms what John is saying about arm wrestling
He talks way too much
He doesn't talk enough
Obviously you're a lower belt or don't train a

You don’t listen enough.
He is a Legend, bro.

MrMultifunc. You have said much about yourself with your comment. And, that is all.
