Thank you Major Billington...My cowboy husband served three tours in Nam and came home to insults that made him shed tears. He received a Presidential Citation, a purple heart and other honors to wear on his uniform. When he disappeared from us one day four years later...I was left with that Army uniform and beret...the blue shoulder braid, medals, ribbons, and the memory of a damn good cowboy.

Wow. A friend just shared this with me. I had never heard it before. Thank you Major, both for YOUR service, and for thinking of us old guys in such a touching way. I was a K-9 handler in 'Nam. When I came home, my parents had moved to a different city where I knew nobody. Besides the overt hostility and/or fearful reactions we got, I always could identify with the old Doors song, "People Are Strange". But I also must say that over the past 2 decades, people have been so kind and sympathetic about how we were originally treated. There were warm and caring people both then and now. But it sure does SEEM like a lot more now. Thanks again...

Thank you Major Billington!! My husband served in Vietnam from'67-'68 with the 1st Cav Div. He remembers vividly the way he was treated when he came home-as in your song. No respect, no heroes welcome-only scorn. He hurt when he seen the cheering for our soldiers coming home from Iraq & Afghanistan-because he had none. Our son served 2 tours in Iraq and my husband praised him for his duty, but the hurt lives on. Thank you again!

Thank you for the song. I came back from my 2d tour May 1970 and remember the cruel words.

Thank you for this most beautiful song and the tribute to our Vietnam Vets. So many are still hurting. From my time and makes me cry. Also, married to a vet who crawled on his belly in bed. God bless you all.

A friend, a fellow Vietnam Vet, sent me this today - the 4th of July. A day that we give thanks for all that we have. There are so many things I'd like to say, but the words don't come easily. Two words do: thank you!. And three more: God Bless You!

Hospital Corpsman HM3 (Navy/Marine Corp) 69-73. Aw Hell just Doc will do a name I worked real to get, taking higher risk to save others, had been called Baby Killer, Murderer, bucket of shit. Can't recall all the Names and treatment we received on this side. i even re-upped but no guarantee of going back with guys that went through Hell and couldn't get a billet back to Nam because they were winding down for a pull out. I like that Idea better anyway. We couldn't stand to see more deaths of kids 18 and up. At least my Dad and Uncles were treated for the hero's they truly made our Military look like Knights in Shining Armour that stood out and could be so spotted that with enough good Press and journalism made WW II stand out like no other man in that establishment look tough.I was lucky because my Dad and Uncles made our family look like they could whoop a patrol or as close to professional trained a contender look like Paquio working with blood sweat and tears experts despite 90% who started families and gave to the community a lot. My Dad passed away age 95. Despite studying aviation to the point of commercial pilot in college at night. I did as much as I could get but they stick so deep down your throat you could fly blindfolded. However when trick questions would arise you'd see adults crying. I would confirm my results and my Dad was never wrong as well. You see my Dad was in his second year of Aviation Engineering. After he came home he finished his classes. This gave him a Teaching Degree. We never could afford a pure bred dog? However things worked out because by his second year we had enough for a 4 kid family plus we got a beagle. I'd like to thank Maj. Billington for remembering us Vn Vets. We were kids back then. Some young as 16. I look at photos today and were starting to look like Photo's of Post Civil War Soldiers. I simply dye my grey and wear a good tuphey. Its natural hair and made to fit your hair to a Tee. I honestly think they should award all of us surviving Vn Vets a special designated letter so folks will never forget what we went through and have it presented and written by the POTUS with a Presidential Citation. Everyone could put it in their Shadowboxes with other awards we received. Oh I forgot they didn't put any awards on my dd214. When I wrote they fund medals I never knew existed and I have to get the records to fix that. It was nice of them to find the medals and send them. I figure now I can show my Grandkids. Make em proud of old Pop. My prayers to all the fellows I tried to save and I tried with over 100% and above effort. I love all you guys that saw me before going to the Father. I lost count. It was long ago and I was but 18. Maybe forgetting is my form of a sort of coping device? however the VA lived up to it's promise but a few that are in the SeaBag lurking in the corners. God Bless all who made it back with me- I still pray for you my Brothers -always!
