Really magnificent, Hilton is so brilliant, articulate, and insightful! I am going to look at my books of Alice Neel's work right now because thanks to Hilton I will see the paintings with new eyes!
This is a wonderful concept for a print exhibition. The WPA has always fascinated me. About 15 years ago I spent a week doing research at the National Archives on WPA artists (I was only able to find male artists). It was wonderful to see the WPA committee selection and approval process they used along with their notes and markups on the rough sketches. Many of the preliminary sketches were available, Paul Cadmus roughs were the most fascinating based on the committee’s severe censorship of his rough drafts. Is there a catalog for this exhibit?
