Thanks for the knowledge about keeping the rear brakes up to snuff . Health of the rears can mean the difference in a sudden stop.
OK this is my next project. you help me with my clutch, you helped me with my carburetor, turns out that it wasn’t the carburetor and it was the petcock Plus a couple other projects that you help me with I don’t let anyone touch my bike and the way you explain it anybody can do itand my bike is running so great it’s nice I can ride it all year round I’m so lucky All my friends still can’t believe that I’m doing all this work with your help now I just need to make it stop…i’ve been doing road trips by myself 200 miles I live in central and ride to Southern California so my bike gets a lot of use and I have to be on Top of it all the time as soon as I’m done with these brakes I’m headed back down there I must be doing something right because my bike makes those trips with ease thanks to you again

Thanks for the video, the front was pretty much self-explanatory on my bike. But the rear was easier after watching your video because I didn't have to take off the caliper. Again thanks for the video

Excellent video. I have a question. I did exactly what you showed. Regarding to the pad clip. When I took the old brake pads, this pad was not installed. But in the new brake pad box there is one. My question is: is need it to be installed or it does not have any difference? Thanks
On the side of safety you are talking about the pad clip. I would install that anti-rattle plate that clips on the back of your new pads. Let us know how that works out. Thank you for watching and your Sub Gabriel. Ride Safe and have a great day.
How do you know its dot 5 fluid? some say its purple in color but that color can fade. in the video it looked pretty clear to yellow. Is there a way to test what it is? My bike is a 05 so it sounds like its on the edge as to when Harley changed over to dot 4. Thanks for your help. I am a new bike owner, I have just discovered your channel. Its a great resource.
Happy to help. I would use dot 4 to be safe. It doesn't stain like dot 3. 5 goes bad after time. They used to swear by 5. Thank you for watching and your sub. Jay. Let us know how it works out. Ride safe and have a great day.
Thanks my first time changing brakes.you explained it very well.
Happy to help Thank you for watching and your sub.Larrie. Ride safe and have a great day.
Great video Rocco! Could you consider doing a video on replacing old brake lines? I’m rebuilding an old barn find 1989 HD Sportster. I want to change the hard piped front brake lines and add different handlebars. I need to add an aftermarket new braided line to do this. There are only a couple videos that are somewhat decent. Your videos are always the best step by step I’ve ever found. Introducing a whole new line means a lot of bleeding the air out accurately. Any advice from you is greatly appreciated! Take care!
I will be doing my next video on rear Sportster brake bleeding. So this should help. Thank you for your support.
Thanks Rocco!
I have the same bike but a 2007 :) Another good video for me to refer back to when I need a brake change.

Have you ever changed the rear master/slave cylinder? My rear brake pedal seems to do nothing. Bleeding isn't doing much of anything.
What year bike and miles?
Rocco! Great vid as always my man. My belt snapped yesterday on my daily for work. Any chance you can make a vid for how to change it?
Hope this helps, This video will give you idea on how to do it. ua-cam.com/video/JbibH0XPmW0/v-deo.html. Let us know how it works out Chris. Thank you for watching and your sub. Ride safe and have a great day.
Thanks! I have the same bike and did front & back brakes myself thanks to your videos. The cash you saved me paid for a full seasons worth of gas! My rear brake is still a little soft and not gripping as much as the front will that be covered in the next video?
I am going to do that as my next video. Bleeding Rear brakes. Hope it will help.
you prolly dont care at all but does anyone know of a way to log back into an Instagram account??
I stupidly forgot the login password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me

@Azariah Amari thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and Im in the hacking process atm.

@Azariah Amari it worked and I finally got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thanks so much, you saved my account!
What allows the caliber to slide back and forth? Is there a separate slide pin that should be removed, cleaned and greased? Does the set pin need to be replaced? Seems using the same one, fatigue might set in. Thanks
Happy to help. The set pan needs to be cleaned and that's it. No need to replace. Thank you for watching. And all your support Rooger. Ride safe and have a great day.
thanks this really help me a lot..i have a 08 sportster custom please keep the videos coming... there great

How do I take the rear brake caliper off? Somehow it was put on without being slid over the rear bolt and I didn’t know it and of course the rear brakes didn’t work on my way home from work.
Happy to help you will need to remove your rear wheel reinstall caliper and then reinstall the rear wheel. I know it’s a foolish foolish set up. Let us know how it works out. Ride safe have a great day.
Rocco fantastic video!!! I got a 2003 883 any idea why the back brakes lock up too easy?
Happy to Help, A problem lot of people would like to have. Time let them go throw a few heat cycles, Sportster usually have soft rear brakes. . Thank you for watching and your sub Canadianloon. Ride Safe and have a great day.

Hi Rocco, my 2005 sportster 1200c rear caliper rubber boot it's cracked "the right side" it's feel like hollow but do not want to pull it, don't want to make brakes fuid mess or fail movement!!
Happy to help, that's just the Dust boot for the caliper bracket pin. Do not worry about it. There is no brake fluid in there. Thank you for watching and your support vistazo, Ride Safe and have a great day
Rocco,HD 2005 Sportster XL I wish I had watched this first. If I had I might not be struggling with replacing the break pad. I removed both pads at the same time. I sure you can guess what happen. I have spent hours trying to reposition the spring clip and reinstalling the brake pads. If I had any hair on my head it would be gone! Is there a trick/secret or something ovbious I am missing?
Happy to help. Take a close look at the configuration of those clips, they will clip in place. If not, they're wrong. It is for tention on the pads get the clip in place reinstall the Brake Pads. @@TwoWheelRocco No matter what I do the pad spring will not stay in place long enough to position the pads. That being said the image of the spring pad from sporty parts looks different from the replacement one that I have. I just place an order.
If you could, take a picture and send it to ERocco 3964@gmail.com. And let's see what you got. Happy to help. You can install the pads without those springs and you will have Brakes might rattle a little bit.
I find that my rear break peddle will not retract when I push it in. Could worn rear pads and low fluid cause this?

I tried to get the little cover bolt out that protects the Allen key bolt and I can’t get it to move no matter what I do. And it just keeps taking pieces of of it cause it’s so stuck… any advice?

@@TwoWheelRocco yea I had penetrating oil on it at time I commented.. added some heat and borrowed my brothers impact and finally got it to release. Thanks man
Happy all worked out. They could be a bear sometimes the corrosion the heat. Ride safe and have a great day. Make sure you collapse those pistons in your caliper. 100% to make room for the new pad.
@@TwoWheelRocco oh yea did that first thing. Doing the pads on my bike is much easier than my old truck lol
How's the rear brake pads spring-loaded? I didn't feel that when changing my rear pads and I don't have rear brakes? I took the new pads out again and put them back in, but my brake pedal isn't stiff like it should be. Any thoughts on my issue?
Happy to help. The pads are just under spring pressure because you install the front of it and push up on the rear to get the pin to go through so there is tension and that's what I meant by spring loaded. Now can you rotate your rear wheel when it's off the ground?. Pump the brakes a few time to get some pressure in there. I know you did it but I have to mention it. If all fails did you crack a brake line or run the fluid low? If you did, you will have to bleed the brakes. Somewhere was introduced into the system. Let us know how it works out.
@TwoWheelRocco I'm not low on fluid, and I bled the rear brakes. Every other time, brake fluid would come out when I bled them. Maybe i should bleed them more?
@TwoWheelRocco now I'm pumping the rear brake, and no brake fluid is coming out of bleed port.
@@TwoWheelRocco I got the pads on and the pin through but didn't feel any spring tension on the pads. They just fall into place. Could that be it?
@@TangoDown1911 I would agree Bleed them more they're very simple and the brake pads are pretty simple. How was your brakes prior to doing the Pads?

Weird. I follow instructions. Pretty straight forward. However I have zero brakes now. I try also bleeding the line NOTHING, cannot even build pressure for the bleeding. Piston is not moving at all.
Sorry to hear that. Rear brakes on the sportsters can be moody sometimes the masters fail and that's the reason you have no pressure. If you can't get any kind of pedal, I would lean towards a bad master cylinder. It happens what year was your bike and how many miles. I've seen it before. Is depressing the piston supposed to be really stiff? I can barely make mine move
Loosen master cycler cover. And work front and back old pads so you don't jam piston in caliper. Just doing one side will place uneven pressure on piston in your caliper. Let us know how it works out. Some are harder then others, A little penetration oil will help to save an old corroded caliper. Hope this helps.
@@TwoWheelRocco I finally finished but there pretty squeaky and I have to depress the brake pedal pretty far down

@@TwoWheelRocco is the brake piston supposed to remain in contact with the pad or have a small gap between the two
