I am sure it makes incredible espresso and it does not take too much space like a regular espresso machine. But like you said, it cannot make milk drinks. It is selling at about USD566 in Singapore (and that's after a 26% discount!). Also, there are too many layers to wash every time after I brew coffee; too much a hassle for me. I would stick to my Moka Pot... 😃

Have had my 9Barista for 2 and a half years now and use it daily. I don’t mind the daily ritual. I find clean up quite easy. After pouring my shot in 20-25 seconds I let the timer on the coffee weight run. I rinse it under water and leave it to drain, and get my coffee before the timer says 2 minutes. Then the coffee is at perfect drinking temperature.

I owned this machine for almost 4 years now. definitely not a back-to-back brewer, but as long as puck-prep is done well, there aren't any much ways to fail and produces consistantly tasty shots (unlike some other more involved, simple brewers like Flair or the more entry level single boiler machines like Gaggia Classic). It's great if I want a simple workflow single brew machine just for myself. I use this when I'm brewing for myself. I use other brewers for guests.

Not gonna lie, I am considering buying this after seeing three very positive reviews on this. I have very little space in my kitchen, so anything that would live permanently on the countertop is pretty much out immediately. I have a Bialetti that I use basically never, because I don't really like the flavor profile of what Bialettis make that much and for that meh outcome it's too finicky. With something that actually makes good espresso if done right, I'd be willing to put in the work to learn how to handle it correctly. And also as you said - it is a conversation piece. I won't say no to another opportunity to talk about coffee.
I'd probably not use it daily, but at the very least weekly for a quiet saturday morning coffee.

the screen isnt there to keep your puck from falling out when upside-down, it will stay on its own. its there because there is a gap between where the pressurized water comes out and the puck. without the screen the puck gets eroded like a urinal cake. Sometimes when i've misplaced the screen i've cut a bit of coffee filter or even paper towel to protect the puck and it worked fine.

The cleaning isn't any more than many other contraptions to be honest... the Wacaco Nanopresso is pretty much the same process and number of steps as is a Bialetti moka pot, a French press isn't that far off either give or take one or two unscrewings.

I have had a 9Barista as my primary espresso machine for 3 years now. I find it unfair to assume that one would only buy it for the design. It certainly is a specialised machine but it delivers!
I am the only coffee drinker in a family of tea drinkers. An espresso countertop machine needs a lot of real estate, 20 minutes to boil 2L of water… for one cup. A lever machine packs away small but the workflow, with the kettle, is such a pain! A Nespresso machine is the most convenient (I had one prior to the 9Barista) but the bean choices are more limited.
The 9Barista only makes one cup at a time but when friends want coffee, I offer filter. A Nanofoamer works great for milk drinks.
The 9Barista is also limiting at times (it does not like light roast, the 53mm filter offers less options than the ubiquitous 58mm) but the workflow is actually quite good (not that dissimilar to a Bialetti), it stores in a drawer and it makes good espresso.

I’m with (most) everyone else. I love its Steampunk design aesthetic and how clever it is. But espresso for me will never be a “one and done” thing and I do need milk steaming. That said, if I was single, lived in a really small place (like a typical urban European flat) and drank my espresso black…
As it is, I live in Canada, with my wife and 2 young adult kids, we all like cappuccino’s and have a kitchen that’s the better part of 40 square metres.

@@TomsCoffeeCorner I wish! Actually, we don’t even have an espresso machine yet. Our cappuccinos are made with a Bialetti Moka Express and a Braun “espresso maker” for the steam. I call the “Moka-ccinos.” The latter was from my mother in law who’d owned it for long enough, that she couldn’t remember how long she had it. When I first started looking at it, I thought that (at best) it was one of those super cheap, all plastic espresso machines that you can buy with pressurized baskets, 20-bar pumps, etc. Then I got the basket out of the portafilter and it was single wall. I got super excited. But then I pulled it apart. No pump. It operates off of steam pressure, so it’s essentially a 4-cup, electric moka pot, shaped like an espresso machine, with a steam wand. It actually makes OK moka pot style coffee. The wand hangs off the side and is stationary. It has this weird end on it. It’s not a pinarello. It’s plastic, shaped like a gravity bomb with its nose cut off. It is removable, but you can’t steam milk without it, as the bare wand’s hole is too big. Pity. But it does do a better job than separately heating and frothing milk with either a French press or one of those spinny-whisky-thingys. I essentially use it as a self heating Bellman Steamer. Inside it’s super basic. No electronics, hardly any wiring; just a thermostat controller (I assume) to keep the boiler from over heating, which is nice. I couldn’t find the thermostat when I pulled it apart (I wasn’t really looking, though), but you can hear the machine cycle on and off when the power is on. I do need to pull it apart again and replace a seal or two as the wand is starting to leak.

The idea that a milk drink needs to be made with steamed milk is a little silly to me.
I use my rok almost daily, and I just add the esspresso to a mug or glass and top it off with cold chocolate almond milk. Simple and delicious even if it's not traditional.

That money could be spent on something more practical. If anyone is a 1 shot and done type of person, then this turbo charged moka pot is right up their alley

Interesting design, but not practical. There is another design out of Thailand where someone has hacked the standard moka pot to make espresso similar to what you wold get from a fancy barista. I was lucky to try a few cups from the unit made by DAYPRESSO MACHIONI. Unfortunately, I could locate one for myself. The design is catching on. It is cheaply made and makes great quality espresso, similar to the 9Barista. I also wonder if the 9Barista isn't a knockoff of the one made in Thailand. But my point is that we should not have to pay $500 for the 9Barista.
