I'm not a fan of artwork in boxes. The only paper items I ever care about are in-universe replicas that are really intricate and make you feel like you're part of that world, and that's only for my absolute favorite fandoms. I never look at art prints again after an unboxing. I view them as no-value filler, personally. So I 100% agree with you! Also I have a fairyloot blanket... It's pretty but I don't think it works as a blanket at all. It's small and thin, definitely not warm enough for cozy fall reading on the couch. I used it as a wall tapestry for a while, so that was nice, but it just goes to show that's how lightweight and thin it was.
Absolutely agree with 'no-value filler,' you've put it better than I have. I have never one looked at a bit of part again, BUT I have seen some people frame them and hang them on the walls of their book rooms and they look great - providing you're lucky enough to actually have a room for books. Yeah this is far too thin to use to keep you warm, but it is soft. It would be no good as an actual blanket in the UK winter though!

I always say the book is worth £20-£25 because of the customisations boosting its value a little but even still I don’t understand why some of the items are in their boxes (the same with other bookish boxes) like how many trinket dishes does one person need? 😂😂

I binge read the book yesterday and absolutely loved it! I went to bed far too late cos I couldn't stop reading. I've only read the first in the caraval series and thought it was okay but didn't fall in love. I think this book is so much better than caraval, and the special edition is breathtakingly gorgeous! I'm not too fussed on the character cards tbh - no idea what I will do with them. My daughter has claimed the blanket, and she's using the trinket dish for her crystals, so both of those items are in immediate use. I'm looking forward to the keychain when we get it. Overall, I was happy with this box, but possibly because I was blown away by the book! I love your reviews, thank you for being honest x

I was confused about the Lore item too but I checked their shipping updates page and everyone in the UK is missing it as they arrived too late - they’re being included in next months box! I loved the trinket dish although a bit concerned that they’re the start of a new collection as i’m not quite sure what i’m going to do with multiple trinket dishes but oh well. really liked the blanket as i’m always cold and really liked that it didn’t have massive pictures of characters faces and is a more subtle nod to the book. and really loved the customisations for the book! I was a bit disappointed with last months book but they really went all out with this one. a bit scared to read it since I hated caravel but am determined to enjoy it since I now have eight cards with pictures of the characters faces on haha!

The missing item doesn't come until December's box or if you're not getting that box then it'll still be sent to you seperate. It's just the item didn't arrive in time because of Brexit, shipping delays, customs etc etc
This video got me to subscribe! I just discovered you tonight and have watched a few videos, but this one made me subscribe because you were honest. You were disappointed and told us, didn't put on a happy face and told us the truth about your feelings. So thank you for that! The book is gorgeous but totally get not feeling its value was enough for the box. I mainly subscribe to Owlcrate and there are definitely times where the book isn't to my taste so I get disappointed and feel that the box wasn't worth what I paid for it. Yet, others might love the author/book and think it's a great deal! Personal taste is personal taste! Someone probably already told you but the trinket dish (not a huge fan of them myself) was based off Addie LaRue. The stars are the big give away there. :)

A few boxes back, there was a theme about potions or something, I was really impressed with that box

They do need to step up their book game (sprayed edges/stenciling, really different covers vs just a color change) but I think Nov.'s is supposed to be quite different, so maybe they've started to?

They announced they were doing book-only and I've been at war with myself. I love some of the items I've gotten (like second books, mugs, bookmarks, and the cards) but I feel like it is really hit or miss sometimes.
@@Wanderness I don't even remember seeing the price for it. I know they said they'd do the adult + YA book-only together as a package, so that's what I meant. If I dropped to book-only, it would be the combined package.
I haven't got this one yet but I'm a little underwhelmed too. Besides the book and the blanket, not much going on really. Opinions are always subjective but it's important to share them, that's what make us real! It's not possible to love everything in the boxes all the time and yet all we see is people unboxing and loving every item every single month. I'm glad I'm not the only one disappointed in this box! The blanket is lovely and so is the trinket tray, even though it's only slightly useful. But the plethora of paper items is really just...meh. Plus, they said the We Set the Dark on Fire item was a postcard and then...didn't print any postcard stuff on the back. You're really not missing out by not having the Lore keychain, tbh. It is extremely underwhelming. And THEN the kicker was that on the spoiler card (which ofc you're missing) they said that the trinket tray was the beginning of a NEW COLLECTION. So...does that mean we're getting MULTIPLE TRINKET TRAYS? Who needs multiple trinket trays?!?! Broken Hearts was such a good idea for a theme, but it feels like FL apply their themes really loosely and the boxes always feel assembled at random. I wish they'd have a more coherent aesthetic, like really giving us BROKEN HEARTS, and just...leave out the paper stuff unless it's a really high quality artwork. Glad they're starting a book only subscription, because this was not it.
I didn't know it was a new collection until someone sent me a photo of the spoiler card on Twitter today. What a random thing to make multiple items of, like you say you don't need more than one. I did find it odd that there was nothing on the back of the "postcard", maybe it's left over marketing material or something? I think on reflection the lack of theme is the thing that annoys me the most after value for money, broken hearts could have been such a well executed theme it just feels like a wasted opportunity 😭
I think it's interesting they have the trinket dish listed as the beginning of a new collection since they did a trinket dish in the Lore box in January that matches it. I wonder if that one was so well received that they thought they should make those a thing? But also---they did a black, white, and gold piece of pottery based on a Greek myth. That has significantly more verisimilitude than similar trinket dishes of contemporary works of fiction because Greco Roman pottery is it's own thing. Luckily I love Addie LaRue, so I'm okay with this particular trinket dish, but if it were some book I wasn't into...I don't know, maybe it becomes a new spoon rest and my roommate wonders why there are teens being sultry on the spoon rest. And then someone makes spaghetti and we laugh at the weird red stains.
I feel similarly about this box. I was excited about the book and the blanket from spoilers and both were kind of underwhelming. I haven't read Caravel, but this book sounded really interesting to me so I'm giving it a chance---the pink isn't my fav though lol, and it seems like there's been a lot of pink and white and light colors in FL lately. BUT the reverse dust jacket with the Rosiethorns88 art, the alternate book foil on the casing, the end pages (even though they look like children compared to the character cards). It really is a gorgeous book...that I'd probably be more excited about if the light color of the case didn't stress me out (because I'm a mess of a human and tend to avoid light colors). I have a "Schwab Shelf" with a couple Curio of Keys from Fox & Wit that I was excited to use the trinket dish for, but if it weren't for that, I'd have no use for another trinket dish...except maybe to hold a tea strainer. Or one cookie. The keychain is a perfectly okay keychain, but I have no purpose for it---I don't drive, my apartment doesn't use a key, and I have a keychain for the mailbox key. The blanket is soft, and the art is fine, but I don't feel like it captures the vibe of Kingdom of the Wicked. Which is odd considering Fairyloot's other KotW items have been pretty decent. Overall, while the art is nice, this box was SO heavy on the paper items that it didn't feel like much of a box and it feels like that happened because of the blanket. I wouldn't say it's my least favorite box from them (This Golden Flame from February gets that honor, plus any box that had a pillowcase) but it does add to my desire to cancel once I'm able to check out the adult subscription.
I was nodding so much reading through this comment, so much of it is so true. Thank you, it's great to hear from other people about what they think in so much detail. I didn't know until after I uploaded it that the trinket dish was going to be a series. I can see it being a wonderful edition to a Schwab shelf but I wouldn't know what to do with 4 or 5. You're right about the art style on the end papers. I wish the artist who did the character cards also did the book end papers to bring it all together.
Hey Ness! Loved your video always, I cancelled in favour of the illumicrate book only option, but I am getting the December box as a one off because it comes with two books. After that I'll just be getting the illumicrate books and then look into the adult only subscription because the items add nothing for me recently. I just look at them once then put them back in the box to store!
I've skipped most of the FL boxes this year because of apathy of the book choices tbh, and I would have been so annoyed at this. I was considering getting this box for the We Set the Dark on Fire item when it was announced but then I read 20% of the arc for Once Upon a Broken Heart (I have not read Caraval) and decided a hard pass and that I'd be able to get the We Set the Dark on Fire item if I really wanted it...but a postcard I could make on canva if I really wanted to??? This is a completely fair opinion and one of the most disappointing boxes I've seen alongside the owlcrate Addie La Rue box. The trinket dish is nice but they had a trinket dish in their Lore box and idk....there's just so much ~stuff~ and waste...

@@Wanderness You can skip a month or just pause your membership until you unpause it - just email them before the renewal to do it! So you don't need to go back on the waitlist. I think you can do the same with illumicrate.
I'm hoping that they do some emoji spoilers like Illumicrate so I know what the books are going to be into next year, but if not I think November's will be my last. I was always going to keep just illumicrate or fairyloot and I think I've made my mind up.
I agree completely. Personally, I was very happy with the book. I loved the end papers and the hardcover foiling was beautiful. We need it with every book really. But yeah I can’t get past the sheer amount of paper items we received this month. I like the idea of an item linked to the book each month, but this could be done through their tarot cards? Feature the new book characters rather than older fandom characters. The blanket is a nice thought, I personally didn’t like the design. The trinket dish was stunning but yes unsure about it being a new collection…
for £28 pounds that book alone was worth the price imo, the £4 on hermes is debatable since mines too gets thrown about 😂i didnt get the keychain either but they did warn me alot of people were missing the keychain and it should be in next months box the items were okay, sometimes box subscriptions disappoint me especially if there's something missing but damn they really gave this book everything, i hope its good ❤✨
Yeah it depends on how much the book is worth to you. I'm one of those people that would never buy a book full price so I find it hard to justify 😂 I've just found out though that they are being resold for like £70-£80 and I am gobsmacked!

I’m a big fan of Caraval and I love this book as well. This fairlyloot edition goes for quite a bit of money. I’ve been trying to track it down for a while.
Ok I’m really bummed I missed this box 🥲 I was really excited for the FL edition of Once Upon A Broken Heart but to buy it second-hand it’ll cost like $150+ 😩
The items in this box seemed like such a let down compared to IC this month, but i have to say that book is STUNNING. I am in love with the reverse dust jacket! I did see that an item was missing and apprently will be in the next months box (saw someone comment it on a tiktok, might be worth emailing them and asking?). But yes these boxes are so expensive when your overseas.... I pay $90 a month. Shipping is almost the cost of the box (which is why i only have IC at the moment even though i do want FL). and if i buy just a book on waterstones its about $50 incluing shipping. So if i got this and paid $40 for that extra stuff id also be pretty dissappointed.
@@Wanderness at least the book is pretty!! Yeah im used to it sadly. The Australian dollar has always been awful compared to the pound (and euro and usd lol). Basically whatever it costs in pounds, double it. But its the only way to get half of these editions so gotta pay it.
I really like those character cards and I agree that they are pretty and well done but I sure wish they had the names on them. Even if I had already read the book, it would not be obviously clear who everyone was. Names would have been a good addition. I like your videos ☺
This was the most disappointing FairyLoot in months, it just felt empty. Between the withheld item and the cards it left me feeling why do I bother? The blanket is gorgeous but the hemming so poor quality it looks like it won’t survive a wash. I love the art on it but wish it was on fleece. I agree the tray is nice and could be any Greek lore book. i don’t like pink books so was very disappointed and the postcard is a cop out that looks like they had marketing left over. I do like the new title on the cover.

Yeah this box is definitely a flop I also think that the art prints were not great I think that's not a great item I think it's great if you want to add as a swag item as a bonus item but not as a soul item especially with it just being like postcard size like that's ridiculous

I think the book was really good but I do agree that everything else wasn’t very good
It was only when I was editing that I considered the items in relation to the theme of the box and I just don't get it, there is no theme

Plus, they said the We Set the Dark on Fire item was a postcard and then...didn't print any postcard stuff on the back. You're really not missing out by not having the Lore keychain, tbh. It is extremely underwhelming. And THEN the kicker was that on the spoiler card (which ofc you're missing) they said that the trinket tray was the beginning of a NEW COLLECTION. So...does that mean we're getting MULTIPLE TRINKET TRAYS? Who needs multiple trinket trays?!?! Broken Hearts was such a good idea for a theme, but it feels like FL apply their themes really loosely and the boxes always feel assembled at random. I wish they'd have a more coherent aesthetic, like really giving us BROKEN HEARTS, and just...leave out the paper stuff unless it's a really high quality artwork.
Glad they're starting a book only subscription, because this was not it.
I didn't know it was a new collection until someone sent me a photo of the spoiler card on Twitter today. What a random thing to make multiple items of, like you say you don't need more than one.
I did find it odd that there was nothing on the back of the "postcard", maybe it's left over marketing material or something?
I think on reflection the lack of theme is the thing that annoys me the most after value for money, broken hearts could have been such a well executed theme it just feels like a wasted opportunity 😭
I think it's interesting they have the trinket dish listed as the beginning of a new collection since they did a trinket dish in the Lore box in January that matches it. I wonder if that one was so well received that they thought they should make those a thing? But also---they did a black, white, and gold piece of pottery based on a Greek myth. That has significantly more verisimilitude than similar trinket dishes of contemporary works of fiction because Greco Roman pottery is it's own thing. Luckily I love Addie LaRue, so I'm okay with this particular trinket dish, but if it were some book I wasn't into...I don't know, maybe it becomes a new spoon rest and my roommate wonders why there are teens being sultry on the spoon rest. And then someone makes spaghetti and we laugh at the weird red stains.
I Just opened mine and I don't have the keychain (I've got an email that It Will be in the next box), but I'm also missing the cards 😅

I feel similarly about this box. I was excited about the book and the blanket from spoilers and both were kind of underwhelming. I haven't read Caravel, but this book sounded really interesting to me so I'm giving it a chance---the pink isn't my fav though lol, and it seems like there's been a lot of pink and white and light colors in FL lately. BUT the reverse dust jacket with the Rosiethorns88 art, the alternate book foil on the casing, the end pages (even though they look like children compared to the character cards). It really is a gorgeous book...that I'd probably be more excited about if the light color of the case didn't stress me out (because I'm a mess of a human and tend to avoid light colors).
I have a "Schwab Shelf" with a couple Curio of Keys from Fox & Wit that I was excited to use the trinket dish for, but if it weren't for that, I'd have no use for another trinket dish...except maybe to hold a tea strainer. Or one cookie. The keychain is a perfectly okay keychain, but I have no purpose for it---I don't drive, my apartment doesn't use a key, and I have a keychain for the mailbox key. The blanket is soft, and the art is fine, but I don't feel like it captures the vibe of Kingdom of the Wicked. Which is odd considering Fairyloot's other KotW items have been pretty decent. Overall, while the art is nice, this box was SO heavy on the paper items that it didn't feel like much of a box and it feels like that happened because of the blanket. I wouldn't say it's my least favorite box from them (This Golden Flame from February gets that honor, plus any box that had a pillowcase) but it does add to my desire to cancel once I'm able to check out the adult subscription.

I didn't know until after I uploaded it that the trinket dish was going to be a series. I can see it being a wonderful edition to a Schwab shelf but I wouldn't know what to do with 4 or 5.
You're right about the art style on the end papers. I wish the artist who did the character cards also did the book end papers to bring it all together.
Hey Ness! Loved your video always, I cancelled in favour of the illumicrate book only option, but I am getting the December box as a one off because it comes with two books. After that I'll just be getting the illumicrate books and then look into the adult only subscription because the items add nothing for me recently. I just look at them once then put them back in the box to store!

I've skipped most of the FL boxes this year because of apathy of the book choices tbh, and I would have been so annoyed at this. I was considering getting this box for the We Set the Dark on Fire item when it was announced but then I read 20% of the arc for Once Upon a Broken Heart (I have not read Caraval) and decided a hard pass and that I'd be able to get the We Set the Dark on Fire item if I really wanted it...but a postcard I could make on canva if I really wanted to???
This is a completely fair opinion and one of the most disappointing boxes I've seen alongside the owlcrate Addie La Rue box.
The trinket dish is nice but they had a trinket dish in their Lore box and idk....there's just so much ~stuff~ and waste...

@@Wanderness You can skip a month or just pause your membership until you unpause it - just email them before the renewal to do it! So you don't need to go back on the waitlist. I think you can do the same with illumicrate.
I agree that I felt let down by the box this month especially after it was very late , I’m thinking about cancelling my subscription too :(
I'm hoping that they do some emoji spoilers like Illumicrate so I know what the books are going to be into next year, but if not I think November's will be my last. I was always going to keep just illumicrate or fairyloot and I think I've made my mind up.
I agree completely. Personally, I was very happy with the book. I loved the end papers and the hardcover foiling was beautiful. We need it with every book really.
But yeah I can’t get past the sheer amount of paper items we received this month. I like the idea of an item linked to the book each month, but this could be done through their tarot cards? Feature the new book characters rather than older fandom characters.
The blanket is a nice thought, I personally didn’t like the design. The trinket dish was stunning but yes unsure about it being a new collection…

for £28 pounds that book alone was worth the price imo, the £4 on hermes is debatable since mines too gets thrown about 😂i didnt get the keychain either but they did warn me alot of people were missing the keychain and it should be in next months box the items were okay, sometimes box subscriptions disappoint me especially if there's something missing but damn they really gave this book everything, i hope its good ❤✨
Yeah it depends on how much the book is worth to you. I'm one of those people that would never buy a book full price so I find it hard to justify 😂 I've just found out though that they are being resold for like £70-£80 and I am gobsmacked!

The items in this box seemed like such a let down compared to IC this month, but i have to say that book is STUNNING. I am in love with the reverse dust jacket! I did see that an item was missing and apprently will be in the next months box (saw someone comment it on a tiktok, might be worth emailing them and asking?). But yes these boxes are so expensive when your overseas.... I pay $90 a month. Shipping is almost the cost of the box (which is why i only have IC at the moment even though i do want FL). and if i buy just a book on waterstones its about $50 incluing shipping. So if i got this and paid $40 for that extra stuff id also be pretty dissappointed.

Yeah im used to it sadly. The Australian dollar has always been awful compared to the pound (and euro and usd lol). Basically whatever it costs in pounds, double it. But its the only way to get half of these editions so gotta pay it.
I really like those character cards and I agree that they are pretty and well done but I sure wish they had the names on them. Even if I had already read the book, it would not be obviously clear who everyone was. Names would have been a good addition. I like your videos ☺

This was the most disappointing FairyLoot in months, it just felt empty. Between the withheld item and the cards it left me feeling why do I bother?
The blanket is gorgeous but the hemming so poor quality it looks like it won’t survive a wash. I love the art on it but wish it was on fleece.
I agree the tray is nice and could be any Greek lore book. i don’t like pink books so was very disappointed and the postcard is a cop out that looks like they had marketing left over. I do like the new title on the cover.
Also how you wrapped up at the end is very much how I feel now.

Yeah this box is definitely a flop
I also think that the art prints were not great I think that's not a great item I think it's great if you want to add as a swag item as a bonus item but not as a soul item especially with it just being like postcard size like that's ridiculous
