I can't wait for the desert precon. I always wanted to build hazezon, but I didn't think there was enough deserts to warrant it. It's gonna be my first thunder junction buy
I pre-ordered the 4 Thunder Junction Pre-cons for $129.99 from our LGS. I like the Olivia Commander card but maybe it would fit better in a Vampire deck. Vihaan is a good Commander. Gonti is very good. Stella Lee is better than I thought. Thank you for the video Mia and Beezy.
Your review just makes me even happier than I was before. I was so excited when I saw the Quick Draw deck reveal & now that I know the commander has ways of going 🤯 INFINITE! 🤯 I'm beyond hyped! (Might even be a first cEDH deck for me. ) I bought all four decks but for sure the only one I'm opening on release will be Stella Lee!
I can confirm how smooth and synergistic Quick Draw is! I nearly drew my whole deck using Stella's copy while Niv-Mizzet, Parun was in play for an explosive win. Crackling Spellslinger on a Treasure Cruise with a Mizzix's mastery in my hand for my next turn made everyone scoop (when I dropped the Mastery on my next turn).
I bought Most Wanted and Grand Larceny. I have a kid named Olivia, so I'm obligated to grab this and try to make it work. As for Grand Larceny, I already had a deck like this but in grixis. It's 12th doctor with Clara Oswald running on black. The idea is basically the same: Steal my opponents' stuff, use it against them, and get political gain while making copies. I'm taking the relevant cards from this precon out and putting them into the Grixis shell I already have. Then I'll be making a Felix combat damage deck out of the spare parts. Pozdrawiam z Polską.
Dang. That spellslinger looks sick. Also, can Beezy try to say the dragon shield ad a little faster? Gotta save time these days. Great work as always, thank you both ❤
It's interesting when some people talk about Stella Lee and how easy it is for her to go infinite. Look up the old Kamigawa arcane spells. Look up Splice Onto Arcane. Then look up Psychic Puppetry. One additional blue mana when casting ANY arcane spell will go infinite. Land destruction, burn, draw, mill, life gain, creature buffs, they do it all. Stella can win commander games on turn 3.
I was kina happy when both Ixalan and Karlov Manor had really strong commander decks thinking maybe it's here to stay...But nope, we're strictly back to 'Meh' territory
Aside from the dimir surveil Precon from MKM, I thought the commander decks from MKM were pretty bad. I feel like OTJ is much better than those, but obviously LCI had incredible precons
Honestly after Zendikar Rising I thought precons will be like that during Covid 19, but nope. Learned to not get your hopes up when Wizards come up with a good formula.
27:44 How did you figure 20 to 30 cards? My guess is that you're considering things that are more than just a one card combo like Refocus because I could only find like 3 cards that are 1) Instant or Sorcery 2) Can uptap Stella 3) Can draw a card. And btw this isn't a criticism but a legit question: I might change my Niv-Mizzet//Thassa's Oracle deck to Stella//Thassa's Oracle given how she is *much easier* to cast so on a deck that already it's dedicated to fast mana cedh this can be a turn 1 combo deck.
Theres 5 ways to draw your deck although 2 are on the next upkeep so play the card that gives everything flash. Besides that theres 2 or 3 cards that just win the game and 2 or 3 that generate infinite mana. It could be interesting to have a cedh deck but idk if you wanna be playing such bad cards that don't do anything without the commander.
Life insurance also counts your opponents stuff so discounting it for only proc’n your stuff is inaccurate. I will agree though that its mana cost is too high and should’ve been a 4 cmc at most.
Seems like the stats are not quite there, it should be a 5/5, or at least a 5/4 so it can swing and get the mercenary buff to draw a card on the next turn. And before you go on about anthems and lords and all those other things, my comment assumes the card in a vacuum. This is not going to turn out how many think it will.
I specced on Stella Lee full art non-foil at $5 a pop. MP was at around $8.5 and ML $7. I bought 5, and I'm hoping it'll get to $10 and I'll double my money. But I don't think she'll go very far under $5 at all. We'll see!
I actually don't have a landfall commander deck and have always wanted one so I might get the desert one. The spellslinger one looks cool but I bought a previous spell slinger deck and never ended up playing it sadly
I think Command Tower is one of the best choices they have ever made. What's the harm in having a land that can tap for all the colors in your commanders color identity?
Rassilon, the War President from the Dr Who decks is going in my version of Gonti. I was building him as a commander, but Gonti gives me another discount and access to green.
I’m getting the Most Wanted deck while I’m excited to build around Olivia. The deck is definitely too unfocused, definitely cutting the life gain sub theme and the mediocre outlaws in the deck for some more treasure generators and better outlaws.
I actually like the lifegain, especially with two reanimator creatures that like lifegain. First thing I cut is the politics cards, which i suppose are there for if you wanna make marchesa your commander. Adding some discard to get things in the yard to get back or encore with fixer.
Whatever team put together the Ixalan precons got fired by Wizards for having too much value and synergy. I like Gonti and spellslinger the best. And someone on team obviously favored spellslinger jamming so many value cards into it. Biggest two disappointments was new Olivia is BORING and the desert precon doesn’t focus really on deserts much or cactus plant folk.
I can use any type of mana mean I can use colorless mana to cast it. Gonti give 1 cost reduction and Doc Aurlock give 2 cost reduction cast from exile so I can cast 0 mana for the spell cost mana 3 or less, am I correct?
Quick Draw is by far the most balanced deck! Some good reprints and great new cards!! I’m going to be deconstructing it and putting singles into my other spellslinger decks (such as Lord of the Nazgûl) as I’m not a massive fan of the commander!
I’m without a spellslinger deck since taking Kykar apart, I’m gonna build it. Precon seems worth it for new cards, Niv and Veyran. Strongly considering switching Stella out for the prowess otter already previewed from Bloomburrow once that set lands.
I wouldn't really worry about which one is the strongest or weakest. The great thing about commander is that you can always upgrade and tweak decks you want. I'm not going to say that the value is always worth it but it also depends on your playgroup because commander isn't an easily balanced format. So if that's the one that you like most go for it! I will be picking up that one, the quick draw, and the grand larceny one myself.
I think it would be a good one for a new player. My playgroup is probably 2 years old now but most players have focused on decks that dont rely on combat and they dont have a good grasp of when/how to attack and block etc.
Olivia (and the deck overall) is such a disappointment. As someone without Edgar Markov, I had hopes she could be a more affordable alternative for a murdu commander vampire. She only needed to say "When one or more Vampires OR outlaw..." to be what I expected.
I run a Mardu Vampires wedding deck with Edgar. But it's all about the bride and groom, with all the vamps to be sacrificed to the party, (along with everyone else's stuff.) It's such a fun deck to play. Sadly, I haven't recruited any new vampires since Crimson Vow. It even has the bride and groom's wedding equipments with the carrage taking them away. They missed the boat with the new Olivia.
Can someone explain the Stella Lee/Twisted Fealty infinite more? I get that after playing 2 spells you will copy fealty, but how do you get infinite wicked roles? shouldn't you just have 2?
I like the Desert Bloom the most just for the theme alone, but I hope I can get a non-foil regular-border Yuma or I'm not gonna bother. :^) While not crazy good, I'm really glad they reprinted the Fallout filter-lands already with better art and flavor-text! :D
I think Plasm capture is great on a budget not everyone can afford mana drain and there’s already a lot of 5 mana counter spells with upside so this being 4 mana is actually reasonable
I think the dislike for Plasm Capture is the number of pips & not necessarily its CMC. 5 CMC counters like Access Denied, Spell Swindle, Mystic Confluence have 2 color pips + 3 generic so the thinking isn't I have to hold up more specific mana, just more mana in addition to the 2 pips. Plasm Capture & similar counter spells that require multiple color pips means you're restricted in not just the mana you have to hold up, but the actions you can take on your turn in order to reserve that mana.
Olivia, Opulent Outlaw Flying, lifelink, Deathtouch Whenever one or more outlaws you control deal damage to a player, create that many Treasure tokens equal to the damage rounded up. (Assassins, Mercenaries, Pirates, Rogues, and Warlocks are outlaws.) {3}, Sacrifice four Treasures: Put two +2/+2 counters on each creature you control. Activate only as a sorcery. If they fix her like this ❤
You need to cast at least two spells before Twisted Fealty. Then you cast it. Before it resolves you activate Stella‘s ability to copy a spell and you choose Twisted Fealty for it. The copy resolves and you choose Stella as your target. As the copy resolves, Stella untaps and gets a Wicked Role. Now you activate her ability again to copy Twisted Fealty again (because the spell itself is still on the stack). Process repeats and as Stella gets a new Wicked Role, your opponents lose one life each time. Repeat until you‘ve won.
I feel like everyone who reviews the desert bloom deck always misses the mark by not mentioning hew the entwood as an include, it's such a sleeper hit for this deck and budget friendly as most copies are under a dollar
It's kinda like a much worse scapeshift, unless you're taking a chance at getting free artifacts, but not sure what you'd aim for there. Very good chance to whiff too, which would cost the game. Now I suppose you COULD use it to sac all lands and fill board with 4/2's for one last assault, but there's better ways to do that
I have to say, these precons have kinda disappointed me compared to recent releases. Maybe it is personal bias but they seem… boring? Yo forreal! I actually wasnt planning on buying any precons and wanted to get a bundle but now........
Desert has been Snows awkward cousin for too long.
@@Just.Arguing I'd almost say that deserts are getting to be better than snow lands
The fact they named the spell in the vampire cowgirl’s deck “We Ride at Dawn” instead of “We Ride at Dusk” pisses me off.
Glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks this.
I can't wait to tweak Most Wanted to use Vihaan for a treasure build. I feel it will really pop off that way.
