(Larry San Diego) I noticed many of the below comments were from several years ago. I have practicing with Stack & Tilt for a short time and followed several UA-cam Instructors online. That being said I came across your channel and felt i found the Holy Grail of S&T Drills which I will incorporate into my range and home practice. Your drills are fantastic!
Nine years on and I have found the video I needed. Everything required for the S & T swing is in this video and will be kept as a reminder for me forever. Thanks Darren.
Darren, you explain the separate elements of the S&T method so well in your videos. I discovered S&T inadvertently in a recent search for a way to get consistent ball- ground contact. S&T has helped me to do that more often and to hit straighter shots. I wish I lived closer to Preston to get 1-2-1 lessons with you to accelerate my learning. I can't find any S&T instructors close to where I live in the Midlands. Thanks, Darren.
Darren , I was playing this way from 1974 until 4 years ago and then went for a lesson and was stopped from using it by a well known tour teaching pro . Since i went for the lesson i have lost 80 yrds off my drives and hit every iron shot near fat after never hitting one fat shot in my life. I now cant get off my back foot at my age since the lesson. I played in 2 opens and on the Canadian tour for 2 years using this swing and wish i had jumped on the band wagon before the word stack and tilt was made up by the guys. You are doing a great job here and hope folk can see it. Think i need to get over and see you to get me back in place .Ps this swing does nothing to hurt the back or legs and i am 54 years old and never had a pain of any kind from swinging this way. Keep up the good work Darren.
Hi Thanks for the feedback, I have shared this with our Network today as it goes a long way to correcting the "haters". Should you ever wish to visit please let me know and we can arrange things for you. I have a forum on FB that may help you also if you add me on there or Twitter @4golfinthezone. Regards Darren
How come it took me 19 years to find your video??? I quit golf 8 years ago because my swing fell apart more and more as I got older. Now at 77 years hold, I think I might be able to play again. Thanks Darren.
just discovered your site and i've watched your 5 blogs with interest. i tried it first at the driving range and it easily fits what i'm longing to learn. y'know what? after 2 weeks, my 28 handicap went down to 22 that even my regular flightmates wondered who taught me this kind of game. i want to enjoy first my bragging right before i will tell them who you are. hahahahahaa!!! thanks a lot darren!!
i've transitioned over to s&t during the last few years and it really has brought me a lot of predictable consistency to my golf shots and easy to learn.
Great drills for the stack and tilt swing,Darren. I think your understanding of the swing is very good and therefore your instruction makes the most sense to me from all the others who try to teach this particular swing. You focus on the right things and one can actually feel how it work.
Darren, you are a great teacher. Very easy to follow and with my short term memory your teaching style really helps. You helped me realize the movement of the hips to move forward and not rotate through. Huge difference mentally. Keeping arms close to chest is also a huge understanding. I have trouble moving the hips forward while keeping the shoulders centered. I will work on the drills. As far as tempo would you say do not worry about that and let the movement and club dictate that? THX
Thanks for the feedback and glad these blogs have helped. Up to now i have done just 5 however my plans are to follow up with others over the next few months.
Excellent video - many thanks :-) I particularly found drill #7 and the description of the downswing sequence very useful, especially combined with the comment in drill #1 (isolation of key aspects) regarding the left hip movement and the need to keep the upper centre from moving forward.
Your ok now ;) you've found the source lol ......its simple and effective, the reason your not told about it is because its not in certain peoples interests for us to be correct. enjoy
Fantastic blog I have been trying to do exactly as you say by attempting to move my lower body forward as I swing my arms and club back and it works as I have hit it better straighter and with a slight draw
These are really first class drills Darren which I have only just come across. Thanks for doing them! (BTW if I may -"practice" rather than "practise" where used to describe the drills etc. )
Great set of videos. Just starting to use this swing and these blogs have been super useful. I have a real problem with extension - whichever swing I use and more exercises to help with that would be great.....thanks!
Heaven forbid that we hit a draw, lol. I'm new to the S&T and was trying it out on the range today. The contact with my irons was improved dramatically. Most of my divots were entirely in front of the ball and those that weren't started only slightly behind it. I didn't try the driver yet but I'm a new convert. BTW, I think a couple of my shots had a touch of a draw.
Hi Darren, I just recently started trying stack and tilt and love it! I do think that in the past, when I hit well, I was incorporating several of these elements without knowing it. . . and feeling a bit bad about it because it was so contrary to popular teaching. . . I would love to donate my indoor golf net to you, if you would be willing to use it in your videos, if you google indoor golf net, swingbox is top three. I think my golf net does complement practicing the technique at home. .
Hi Darren I'm really keen to try this method and your videos are really clear and well explained. I often see people who have tried S&T finding that their low/mid iron strikes improve but their long irons and woods suffer, presumably down to everything getting too far ahead of the ball ?
Hi Darren, what about fairway woods? Currently I find that as long as I keep my upper body (sternum & head) behind the ball on the downswing & start moving the hips first rather than the shoulders, and hit towards a point left of my target line (I'm a lefty), then I can sweep the ball off the ground with a slight draw. As soon as my shoulders move first then my swing gets too steep, I swing across the ball, & usually hit the ground before the ball, or pull-hook.
Darren, Video very good and well put together. I have been advised to try stack and tilt and am starting to work on it. I have a straight left leg about 1/2 inch shorter than my right. I have no bend in left leg. Any hints as to how I should work on left leg when sliding hips to right in downswing. I am not a spring chicken , 70 years old and still learning. Many thanks, Dave Mc Feely
Hi Thanks for the feedback, if you look at my drills and conditioning blog contained within my channel there is a drill that discusses presetting the hips fwd....this will help you a lot.
Darren...excellent series of S&T videos. Much appreciated. Striking the ball much cleaner now but my "miss" tends to be a straight push to the right, I'm a right hander. What could be causing this?
The first drill - the back extension is one thing that has always felt strange to me. When I put it in practice in the backswing i feel like i'm lifting myself up. Wonder if I'm understanding it correctly or if others felt that way too at first too since it's a different movement
Hi, thanks for engaging 👍 regards the “lifting up” remember as we extend more (tuck under as you describe) we must add side bend to offset/balance things out, try adding some side bend to your finish’s as you tuck under this should help you 👍🇬🇧⛳️
Great Stuff...Just had my second hip replacement in as many years...before I was very interested in the stack and tilt even more now...watching blog #5 with the Driver are you not doing a Single Plane!? With fixed hips and bad right knee (left-handed swing) flexibility in question sometimes is this not a Single Plane with less moving parts...look forward to your response and hopefully more drills I can either do in basement during the winter etc..Darren thanks again
have you looked at the Driver Blog? there are slight differences at set up (hips more fwd with driver/f-way) also from P6-P8 the extension should kick in sooner helping club come out of its descent..........its all on the Driver Blog, check also that the ball is located correctly (on or inside left shoulder) and that the elbows are not flexing through impact (arms straight!!). Any further issues could be looked at via online coaching.
Hi Darren, Could you do something on how to hinge the wrists inside and keep the back swing short. I am trying to get rid of forearm roll in the takeaway which gets me disconnected, laid off and hands way above swing plane. There doesn't seem to be much out there on youtube for this . Thanks Tom
Hi Thanks for the feedback and glad the videos helped......in regards to your bad shot wht position would you want the clubface to be in at impact?? Daz
Darren. S&T have realy helped my gane both off the tee and on the fairway. Nevertheless it has screwed up my bunker shots. Any advice??? Cheers. Philip (Barcelona)
using the stack & tilt I hit sand wedge 80 metres & approach (gap) wedge 90 metres, approx. 10 metres better than I used to, on my very first practice holes using S & T. However, with the fairway woods, seem to be getting a very low trajectory, with a tendency to fade (I usually hook). How do you get high trajectory with the fairway woods using S & T?
Hello Darren! One of the problems I am having is one of over-rotating the body. With such an inside-out-to in swing I seem almost to come across my body after impact resulting in pulls or at worst cuts (particularly with the driver). One of the coaches here advocates a slightly held off follow-through (before the finish). Is this part of the stack and tilt method please?
Darren, love your lessons. I am practicing all on the range. I am having a problem with fading the ball when I need it. I have always been able to draw but not fade. Any suggestions?
@steinisterki2 the low point tends to be where the weight is located (other things do come into play also but this is key) due to weight moving less "off" during S&T ball doesnt need to bee as far back for further insight see my low poiint control video .
Hit some partial shots with the ball a touch back (2balls in from norm) and focus on finishing at chest height with both arms straight ...............arms should feel like steel rods at this point. Sounds by your description that your flexing the elbows to bring the club out of its descent rather than extending and tucking. Hope this helps. I have a student on here (mark Jacob) who's second lesson covers this point.
what I ment was that in the traditional swing the ball position is in the midle of the stace with a midle iron 6-7-8--. but in the S&T videos the ball is much more forvard near the left foot and the upper body over the ball. is the bottom of the S&T swing always under the sternum.
@steinisterki2 The ball position will (as with any method/model) depend on the type of shot required and the lie the player has, as a base line id go 1" back of what would be "traditionaly" prescribed initially just to assist in swinging out at nthe ball. once a push draw is consistent then play around with the ball position to give shot variation. I will put a video together along these lines over the coming months. Thanks for the feedback.
Good luck.........if you need one to one assistance I'd suggest visiting Sam Quirk at the drift or James Ridyard based in Bedford these instructors are close to you and would benefit your development.
Hi Hard to say 100% without Video but hitting fat can be caused by one of 3 things, Weight location, handle location & Controling radius of the swing. one of these areas will be lacking. 1 & 2 are easy go hit some with weight 70% on lead foot and make sure handle is pointing at lead hip the radius issue may require time with an instructor or use my Online Coaching facility I can email details of this to you. ATB Darren
Yes thats true........id look to present the clubface a touch moreopen before anything else a nice mental image would be a path of 4 to the right and a club face 2tothe right this all things being equalwould have the desired effect.
hi Darren............very good info.....i have many questions but for right now.......on the backswing...are you aware that you lift the thumb of you right hand off your grip?...........or maybe my old eyes are playing tricks....if you in fact do that for a reason might you please share why?? its right about i believe the 439 mark..thank you

Good stuff. Just what I need. Ive been swinging S and T for a while. But these drills are a refresher. Thank you.
hi darren, i've been doing s&t on and off for a few yrs. you have simplified it a lot for us, brought it to life. thnx!!!

This was a brilliant video..... Thank you.. I alway go back to this video

Hi Darren, I have a prosthetic right leg below the knee. Your stack and tilt drills are helping . Thank you for and and all help you can give.
Love that we can help and good luck in your journey #respect
Great stuff, Darren. Some of the best stack and tilt instruction on UA-cam. Very helpful. Thank you!
Many thanks

Is there a drill on how to get the club a little shallow on the downswing..
Thank you so much
great tips, thanks, quality video series- simple and well explained.
Thanks for sharing. Good stuff.
Thanks for the kind email Darren , i will be over to see you soon once i can get down from North Yorks . Best wishes Ken

Hey, have you seen the video i posted on instagram and FB about the Grid? if not go take a look it answers this question @4GolfinTheZone on insta
straight right is when face and path are both equal amounts to the right..........Also check that the arms are not leaving the torso through impact.

Hi
If you watch the "driver Blog" it will go a long way to explaining your issue, it does relate heavily to the location of each COG.
Thank you for this Darren. I hope you got my email regarding some video lessons possibly.
