i actually watched this as because i was trying to make sure where the compression release spring was supposed to be. i had also figured the same position as you did, so you confirmed my thinking. The old one had slipped during removal, and the new cam had slipped out too far also. Thanks ford the video.

Great video bud! I don’t even have one of these engines but was thinking of buying a ranger needing an engine rebuild so thought would check out this video. You’re excellent at describing everything that needs doing. Cheers!

In my opinion, from watching many Repair videos, you did a great job explaining and showing the important details. I would encourage you to keep the Videos coming. I will definitely bookmark this for my upcoming camshaft replacement on my 500.

seems like the timeing chain is just stretched a bit that's why the timing sprocket is rotated backwards a degree or two with tension on the chain.

Can the camshaft cause knocking in the engine?

Hey I have a 99 ranger 6x6. Just replaced the clutch. Noticed it kinda seems like it boggs at a certain speed. The cams look good and shiny but the exhaust rocker has minor pitting, could that be the issue?

@tonyknightstep1927 the way to know if the cam is worn is to measure the lift. Basically the diameter of the cam lobe from 12:00-6:00 (highest measurement) and 3:00-9:00 (lowest measurement) to determine the actual lobe lift.
It's also very possible you have a carburetor issue.

@@paulkelley86 thanks man. Yea with the cams looking good(minus a actual measurement) and the rocker I thought maybe carb issue.
