    This show had oddly some of the most palpable infinite feedback loop of anything I've ever consumed. This was in part to its unique time slot on Adult Swim where it often would start as you're going to sleep, & repeat in the dead of the night, say 3:00 - 4:00am. A time you wouldn't regularly wake up at, but the random days you did made it feel fever dream-esque. Combined with the slow & iconic ending themes almost gave the impression that Inuyasha had lulled you in a spell, believing that the show was on the entire time & that late night Adult swim was in of itself "Inuyasha".

      I think this perfectly summed up my thoughts on Inuyasha at a young age.
      For me, it was the final hour of the toonami block before CN started, which was about 5-6AM. So there would be times where I would wake up early just to watch it; I would get disappointed and mad if I overslept and missed it that week. And with it honestly being the only feasible anime for me to watch during the toonami block due to how early in the morning it was, it always stuck with me until I watched it online years later. Especially the ending theme like you said

      As someone who was not interested in Inuyasha at the time it was airing, my entire impression of it back then till today was “that weird show that was on at 3am”. The few times I happened to see it in the middle of the night were very off putting to me as a kid and I really should go back and actually watch the series at some point.

    51:48 I think he got the chicken and the egg mixed here. Sesshomaru kept Rin BECAUSE he wanted to learn more about humans after seeing Inuyasha, and formerly his father, do so much for humans and get so powerful because of it. But of course he won’t ask any direct questions or think to himself because he’s too noble for that

      I wouldn't say I liked every chapter, episode and movie, but the serie did have something for everyone. When I was a teenager, loving anime such as Dragonball Z, Bleach, NGE and 1997's Berserk, InuYasha had a few very relatable themes that got me and a few male friends hooked. Sesshomaru's vicious strength and pride, the cool factor from the Tetsuaiga, or the sentiment of making one's Father proud, which made the 3rd movie by far my favorite installement of the entire franchise.

    36:00 I will never forget how hilarious it was when one of Naraku's spawn betray him in the final act and confront the main cast, only for everyone to collectively realize that the poison insects weren't around and Miroku to instantly wind tunnel him away. It was like even the bad guys forgot how busted that ability was.

    I'm so glad you brought up the fact that the composer for the series was an apprentice to Akira Ifukube! I never researched it myself, but I have always been certain there was a large influence at play. In particularly the movie score for Affections Touching Across Time, there is a scene where the chorus chants "MAHARAAAA!" in a fashion uncannily similar to one of the Mothra songs. And I don't recall exactly the scene, but it is either in the Ryukotsei fight or also in the first movie where there is a musical cue that I always though was nearly identical to an intense scene from Godzilla vs Biollante where Biollante's vines are rising from the beneath the Earth.
    Thank you for looking into it in depth like you have!

    Inuyasha was my first anime. It’s no longer my absolute favorite anime, but I still cherish it to this day and will rewatch my favorite arcs when I feel nostalgic.
    I remember learning how to timer record my TV to VHS so I could record the late Adult Swim showings and then watch first thing in the morning and then rewatch over and over again until the next episode aired. lol, I probably still have at least the first 3 seasons on VHS somewhere.
    The soundtrack will forever live rent-free in my heart. ❤️

    I probably watched about a dozen Inuyasha episodes in my life when I'd catch reruns out of order on Animax Asia when I'd go visit my grandparents, so I really don't remember much about the plot - I did remember all the character names though. But god, those ending songs really embedded themselves in my brain like nothing else.
    I remember years after my exposure to Inuyasha, being on a plane and having a look at the music albums on the in-flight entertainment. I was dipping my toe into Japanese music outside of just anime at the time and I noticed an Ayumi Hamasaki album on there, so I hit shuffle. And then the first song to play was Dearest, and all this nostalgia came back for a show I hadn't even watched enough of to be nostalgic for. I didn't even listen to the rest of the album, just played Dearest on loop for this 8 hour flight until I fell asleep. It's a comfort song for me to this day.
    And then becoming a BoA fan through her career as a kpop idol only to find out that she was the one who sang Every Heart was another revelation.

    Like a lot of people Inuyasha was one of my first anime that I was aware of as anime and I also never finished. My local library however had all of the manga volumes that were out at the time so naturally I read all of them in my quest to read every manga available to me. All this has led to the Inuyasha manga becoming a comfort series for me, and I've read it multiple times through. Every couple of years I get the urge to revisit it and then I buldoze my way through it in a week or two. It's been a while since my last read and tbh I wouldn't be surprised if I went through it again soon since I'm about to graduate from grad school and I'm seriously in need of something cozy and nostalgic like Inuyasha is for me.

    Inuyasha was one of those series that I never actually watched all the way through but have probably seen the majority of. Through most of my childhood I remember it being on very late at night and so very often I'd fall asleep before an episode came on or half way through it. It also seemed like for whatever reason at the time toonami preferred to play the earlier eps so I would miss a week or two and come back to watch Inuyasha, only to see that toonami was replaying the first ep again. Even though I watched it completely out of order, it never felt like I was missing too much context. Sometimes Inuyasha would have a different powerup or Naraku would have a new underling but for the most part I could just watch that ep and get the majority of context from what was going on. I'm not sure if that's a point against or for the series as a whole. As a tween I absolutely loved the band of 7 arc and I remember my friend sneaking out of her room on Saturdays to record all the Band of 7 eps on vhs so we could watch them together as we worked on our fanart and fanfic. At the time most of my middle school friends had a crush on atleast one of the members of the band of 7. I personally was never much of a Kagome fan because I felt like she had this self righteous attitude where she always thought she was the morally right one in every scenario and would abuse her sit power any time Inuyasha even mildly annoyed her, even if he hadn't really done anything wrong. I could never really see them as a couple and I remember the show annoying me the more it focused on their relationship. Then again, these are all my memories on how I felt a decade ago, so who's to say if I would think the same if I tried to rewatch the series now.

    Inuyasha was my very first anime at 8 y/o, the only anime I've only watched completely in English dub (on early 2010s UA-cam no less!!) and for a long time before I developed any music taste beyond my parents' and Disney, Inuyasha OPs, EDs and OSTs were the only music I'd proactively look for. It's not my favourite anime anymore and hasn't been for a long time, but it holds such a special place in my heart and forever will.

    what a great video!
    i like naraku lmao. i think it's fun how his biggest enemy ends up being kagome, the one person he has done nothing to. kagome is so understanding and loving and forgiving and yet she *despises* him. i can't think of another villain kagome would truly hate, so i think it makes sense that he is the main antagonist
    the band of seven arc is one of my favorites, and i do know all their names, but that's probably because i rewatched the entire show earlier this year, so that might not be true in a few months lol. but i really enjoy those episodes, they are fun and mysterious and the stakes feel very high. also i always find it funny how bankotsu wants to have his big fight with inuyasha because "he killed his band of seven brothers" when inuyasha... didn't do that. at all. but he is baited to fight anyway
    kikyou might just be my all time favorite character, her (final) death is beautiful and never fails to make me cry. i know a lot of people say that she deserved better and yes she did but thats the point????? she is a tragic character and tragedy demands to be felt. everything about her life as so fucking sad. and her death. and then she was resurrected against her will a bunch of times just to suffer more. and she sacrifices herself. it's terrible. that's kind of the point
    the love triangle is just *chefs kiss*, there is heartache all over. we actually see so little of kikyou and inuyasha before naraku's interference but their love really comes through, there's no story without them loving each other. this is the love that literally transcends the passage of time. on the other hand we spend so much time with inuyasha and kagome and get to see their relationship develop, and i really enjoy the slow burn and how they learn how to communicate and be what the other person needs, its just so good
    i never really saw kouga competing with inuyasha for kagome's affection, it was obvious from the start he didn't have a chance and it never really bothered me or made me dislike him
    and yes, most of it is filler, but honestly it looks and sounds so pretty that i don't really mind, i enjoy those characters a lot, generally enjoy character driven stories anyway, and i don't know how much of it is nostalgia, but every few years i find myself coming back to rewatch the entire show and i never love it any less
    won't bother with yashahime tho, it looks ugly

    I'm so glad to see some appreciation for inuyasha! i know you wont see this but i love this review and analysis, and sorry for the long comment but WOW i love this anime.
    it's been my hyperfixation for 3+ years and has been on my mind every day (.../srs), and i've never connected to multiple characters as much as I did with InuYasha when my mom actually put it on the tv and let us watch it.
    I've never really liked being in the fandom, since it's both mostly old people (exaggerating, but too old for me) and pretty... weird and unfair from what ive seen, especially towards kikyo and kagome, two of the three characters i connect to heavily, so whenever i see review videos, i usually try to stay away, but ive recently gotten into your videos and i really like it and might even try and get into some of the ones you've talked about.
    talking about sesshomaru/rin, i'm really uncomfortable around it and it's definitely why i only talk about inuyasha with a few friends and stay out of the fandom. i know everyone has their own opinions about it and people definitely have some nuance about it, it's always pretty obvious to me that their relationship was parental, and that it was a really well written one at that! maybe it's made worse by the fact i headcanon rin as autistic and she's also just been one of my favorites with how almost relatable and likeable she is, and the idea that she's been through so much grief after losing her parents, is horrifically abused by the village, then watches them all die before following them herself, before being saved by sesshomaru, who later marries and has children with her as a 16-17 year old felt REALLY creepy, even if it's never said that he physically or emotionally did anything, and it's the feudal era, it just feels... really disgusting??
    that's just my opinion though and i'm not really one to fight about anything and i just wanted to throw in my own two cents! if anyone were to reply to this with their own opinion (that just. doesnt get too into the proship and anti thing.), please be understanding, i have autism and if any of this doesnt make sense, it's just kinda something i struggle with 😅

    • @kiwiio_
      @kiwiio_ 2 роки тому +2

      just putting this in the reply and not editing the comment so its not even longer than it already needed to be, but i kinda disagree with you on the incarnates of naraku, but for THE most shallow and personal reason which is just that they were really fun to watch and god did i become way too emotionally attached to kagura and the little white mirror girl who i also forgot, just because kagura was relateable in her want for freedom and her never getting to express that for me (and also she's just pretty) and her death being right before kikyo's which gave me the WORST emotional smackdown when i watched the series to where i, in the one-sitting binge i was doing for the *entire series* (got no sleep, felt VERY faint afterwards), i genuinely needed a break? and for mirror girl, im not even sure why i like her but i know her death was both cool AND sad in a way that i liked? i've never thought about how them and the rest of the incarnates are pretty useless and not a good plan but honestly i just really liked them too much to see it as annoying

    I remember watching Inuyasha for the first time in 2008 on adult swim. I got so annoyed when adult swim kept airing reruns, I eventually went to watch as much as I could online until adult swim continued. I didn't get to see the final act until 2012, right before my high school graduation that year. Throughout 2010 up until my graduation I was fond of reading the manga that I borrowed from the library. I never got to fully read it in order as volumes were always missing. There was nothing like bringing twenty volumes of Inuyasha home to read. It really boosted my love for manga as a whole. I'm hoping to collect the manga and anime itself soon. It's always meant so much to me throughout my teenage years and inspired me to draw myself. I owe it so much.

    Man I am a fucking sucker for a good soundtrack. Doesn't really matter what it is, whether it's a game (Pokemon gens 3/4), a movie (original Star Wars/LotR), or a show (Inuyasha) if the music is good then I'm pretty much sold. This video made me appreciate just how influential Inuyasha has been on my overall music taste. The main theme? Amazing. Super reminds me of Final Fantasy and Monster Hunter with how complex and epic it is in its composition. The title card jingle? Literal goosebumps. It's all so good, and I really do think there are a lot more OSTs and songs that have been influenced by Inuyasha, it's just that the influence is subtle enough that I could see it just being dismissed as generally inspired by older east Asian music.
    IMO, Inuasha strikes this perfect balance of fictional and non-fictional feel. The music and clothing and other choices are very grounded, but it's also not afraid to show that it too is just an anime, and gets ridiculous if it wants. On top of that, the world is very believable. When I think of shows with vague forests and fields for backgrounds, Naruto comes to mind as they're always seen jumping through trees and doing big fights and whatnot... but Naruto has the same problem that DBZ has where the locations are just... so nonspecific. What's different about these two arbitrary forests? Nothing. There's trees, and there's ninjas. That's what matters. But Inuyasha's locales all felt... placeable? I dunno. I haven't seen the show in years, but if you asked me to draw up a general map, I'd bet I could do it.

    Man, I remember trying to stay up every time InuYasha was on its adult swim timeblock. This show probably helped spark my interest in anime more so than any other. I haven't seen the "last season" though as my interest in the show waned pretty heavily because, as was mentioned, the show just drags heavily and doesn't progress much at times. One of these days, I'll revisit it, but I'm going to have to be very bored with nothing better to do with my time. Probably.

    51:40 Sesshoumaru and Rin... First, he didn't bring her back to life simply as a test. For his sword to work he must already care about the person and want them to live.
    Although he didn't need help she tried and was loyal to him. Loyalty is something he places great value on and it allowed him to care enough to bring her back.
    After that, I suspect he felt responsible for her and let her follow him. He does say she has to fend for herself but also makes Jaken tail her so shes not really in danger.
    It is very much how he raised his own children, so maybe it's just the way his kind does things.
    By the end of "Final Act" Sesshoumaru does recognize that a human child has different needs and now it being safe for her, sends her to a village of people he trusts.
    Lastly the pairing... I'm not a fan but historically it would be pretty common for someone to marry their ward off to someone of similar rank as themselves who can equally take care of them or to marry them themselves.
    I actually think it's gonna be really hard on Sesshoumaru in the future. Sesshoumaru is still very young at the equivalent of 20-21yo, Rin will age and when she dies of old age he will still be a young man.

    If people are interested in more of Takahashi’s fantasy horror aesthetic in series form, I definitely recommend Mermaid Saga.
    The ideal experience is the manga, which is only 3 volumes long. Though there was a (somewhat censored) tv anime and a couple of classic OVAs as well. One of the latter and best of these (Mermaid’s Scar) being helmed by Morio Asaka and Madhouse, known later for collaborating on CCS, Gunslinger Girl and Chihayafuru.

    I remember watching Inuyasha fondly as a middle schooler, having a giant big fat crush on both Inuyasha and Sango at the time, but never quite connecting with Kagome. That lack of connection as well as the slow middle arcs led to a pretty unreasonable hatred of the show and Kagome in high school. This hatred actually helped me bond with a mutual friend in my sophomore year that I otherwise had nothing in common with. Not sure if I’ll ever return to the show, but this retrospective was a nice substitution. It’s probably the first time I felt excited to click on a YGG Studio vid since the channel has been called that.
    (And yea, switching the channel name to Golden Witch may be a good idea. YGG Studio just… isn’t a very good name, and the people that are still here are here for YOU Trixie. I have nothing against variety or ensemble content but it just sends mixed messages marketing-wise when the star of the show is barely even present in the branding. [I know, ironic considering the show isn’t called “Kagome” but I digress…] Your call, though. Enjoying this series and I wish you the best.)

    The love triangle is the most frustrating to watch. Kikyo is literally a zombie who wants to drag Inuyasha into hell, a place he can't even go to if I remember the pied piper/ghost girl episode correctly and if that logic still applies in this circumstance. Inuyasha doesn't seem to want to unalive himself so wtf 🤣 Kagome's jealousy also seems to be really ill used bc, to Inuyasha, Kikyo's loss would be super fresh and I can't help but think that if Kagome was supportive of his confliction in seeing his ex girlfriend's resurrected corpse he'd be able to work through that baggage in a way that wasn't insane. Not saying that the trauma and drama is bad or anything, just very silly

  • @AmuraHiboshi

    Is Sesshomaru and Rin's relationship really all that weird, especially how hard to read Sesshomaru is portrayed? Like, I get it, scandalous age gap but I'm way too into old romance stories to be shocked by the common trope. Their relationship was always in this grey area to me. It wasn't familial. It wasn't exactly romantic either. The only thing that was consistent was that they had an impactful connection and cared for each other. I wouldn't even go as far to say it was grooming because it truly is one of the tamest portrayals of this type of potential age gap romance. You would have to have been already uncomfortable with the age gap in of itself to call the relationship grooming because nothing was implied in both animes. I can even reach for a more modern and popular relationship that ticks more boxes which is Mushuko Tensei but I digress.
    It doesn't help that Rumiko puts a lot of emphasis on romance most of the time in the series. Only Sango and Kohaku had narratives that focused on familial love. There was a lot of narrative weight behind demons romancing humans. It's a curse plaguing Sesshomaru's mind that his great demon father not only fell in love with a human but gifted the child from one with power. Pretty sure Izayoi compares him to his father when he brought Rin to her, correct me and all. I can fully understand Sesshomaru and Rin being popular in Japan. Enough so that it rivals Inuyasha and Kagome due to their potential and how classic of a storyline "Pure Hearted Girl Melts a Demon's Heart" is.
    Also, I know western fans were shocked that Sessrin got together and that Rumiko would allow it but. I started watching Ranma 1/2 and people neglect to mention that early on there was this love triangle with Akane having a crush on the Dr. Tofu but he's in love with her older sister Kasumi which she seems to reciprocate. The kicker is that Akane got her crush when she was in early middle school and Dr. Tofu fell in love with Kasumi when she was in high school at the most. Kasumi and Dr. Tofu are side characters but I wanted to point this out to say that Rumiko is not shy. Hell, you can say she did actually explore grooming. the nonsexual kind, with Mermaid Saga with the whole kidnapping little girls and raising as livestock thing.
    Ugh, this ran long. I didn't even get to Yashahime and how it's weirdly out of touch and not at all like anyone who worked on Inuyasha worked on it. It had a lot going on to the point of a headache yet somehow bored me to tears. Not even the soundtrack cou- There's so much and it hurts to learn that the staff was passionate in trying to make it. Especially when I still put on the Inuyasha OST to relax. It just invokes all those times when I would stay up all night on weekends to catch the 5am block. Anyways, I like your videos. I'm one of the few that like your sign off.

    I remember enjoying the show. Not very much, but it was interesting and funny so I was watching it just because. It was never anything very special, but I liked it still, I really liked the initial plot, some of the fight scenes, relations between the main cast and just the whole idea of them going back in time/to another world (dunno honestly) is for some reason just so appealing to me :0. I liked the comedy and it's darker themes.
    But, resurrecting Kikyo was for me such a pain in the ass. I mean, it was great at the beginning, but the longer the story would go, I felt like the whole theme of all of them episodes was "Kikyo, Kikyo, Kikyo". I remember getting so annoyed by her and then by InuYasha just simping on her the entire time. And it was by the time when he already got together with Kagome, so it was kinda like "hey, I fell for you because you look kinda like my dead girlfriend so I'mma date you-.. But wait, she's apparently not dead so fuck your ass Kagome, gota get my gf back".
    The whole romance between InuYasha and Kagome was just... Boring and lackluster. I did not enjoyed it to be honest. It's like, you know, you're invested in the characters, you know they love each other and you're just so excited and hyped up, but once they'll finally hook up, you realise there's nothing really much after that. They're together, so there's no point in being excited about this anymore, cool. You're seeing them as a couple and you're happy for them, but with each new scene it's getting more and more "normal", and so at the end of the day, the biggest part and premise of the show has already been accomplished and there's nothing much that excites you as much. You're just getting bored. That's how I just simply forgot about the show somewhere like 5-7 episodes to the very end and I don't really feel like checking them :V.
    And also, can I just mention, that I think, Kagome was supposed to look exactly like Kikyo, wasn't she? But for some reason she does not look similar at all (at least to me)?

One weirdness I still remember is that Takahashi's work had nudity with the Nipple showing, and afterwards I couldn't find uncensored nudity in any manga which always left an impression on me as Ranma and Inuyasha being something different.

    Imho, you didn't understand the band of seven arc. First of all it had a pure spirit of Sengoku era; and it were mortals who challenged Inuyasha this time. Mortals who weren't afraid nor God, nor devil nor even seshomaru. Looks quite ironical for this superstitious feudal Era. Next, minor villains were unique - yes, I mean Bankotsu and Jakotsu. Dark humor, creepy jokes, parody... and again references to Japanese lore and history as well. It's a pearl, I was sad when it ended too early as for me. Actually only adults value this arc as far as I noticed.

    I think Inuyasha as a series suffers from its condition as a shonen and constant power ups. I always liked the dynamic between Inuyasha and Kagome in the earlier episodes because despite Inu being physically stronger, at the end of the day Kagome was also pretty capable with the arrows and I think it was episode 30 where she saved Inuyasha´s ass against Naraku. I thought that was a pretty cool switch around but with the constant threat of Naraku becoming stronger so did Inuyasha and by consequence Kagome was kinda just there for the emotional support and she no longer was allowed to be a badass. Even with those flaws, I still love this series and its characters. Great video, Trixie.

    1:58 Maybe in the world of anime and manga, but beat for beat almost all the granular aspects of how the story plays out, the character designs of the antagonists, their motives, and even the base archetypes of the main cast are *all* based on Journey to the West (as in the original Chinese classic, Xiyouji, not the Japanese anime Saiyuki). There is always a mountain, there is always a river, there is always a lake, there is always a monster that Monkey/Inuyasha have to beat up.
    One of the reasons I severely lost respect for Inuyasha as a series (along with many other things) is how, once you see all the parallels to Xiyouji and parse it from the stuff she actually made, it's kinda hard to say she did anything truly creative with the series, especially considering how Inuyasha didn't even manage to develop its characters past the extremely low benchmark of Sun Wukong and just generally tread water for dozens of chapters. There are so many reasons I fell out of love and even resent this series as an adult who moved away from anime, but that's one of the big ones.
    ~~~~
    And yeah, the Yashahime development *severely* creeped me out. The people who unfathomably shipped the fucking *child* Rin with the clearly physically and emotionally adult Sesshomaru was, is, and always WILL be creepy, so to see it basically made 'legitimate' or canon in the sequel was insanely disheartening. I was hoping beyond hope that Takahashi was actually doing something very sweet by making Sesshomaru more of a reluctant adoptive father figure and learning to love a human who he didn't expect anything of in return. It would've been an excellent way to make clear his growing understanding of what it means to care and do things selflessly and to actually value someone so significantly weaker than him, and maybe even learning to raise them and see them become their own person.
    But alas, no. Instead we got a child's innocent crush (that is cute foundationally because nothing should come of it) turned into the kind of insane reverence that is, without a doubt, a case of grooming.
    • @DoveJS
      @DoveJS 2 роки тому +1
      Oh wow, now that you mention it, the parallels are strong although... does that mean Kagome is Tripitaka??
      I never finished the Inuyasha anime or the manga (kinda liked the manga better) but I will say this is one of those I enjoyed in the beginning and as time went on kinda lost interest. I wish it had focused more on the romance, I guess? Or had more humor? I'm not sure what turned me off other than feeling like it was getting drawn out which... to be fair, the Journey to the West is a big book but I felt like Inuyasha spent way less time on its original premise (demon/modern girl time traveling fantasy potential love story) and too much time wandering willy-nilly. It doesn't help that Karome doesn't really have a goal??? Maybe she did, it's been a long time since I read and watched any of this but I remember feeling very disappointed. Ranma 1/2 kinda does the same thing but it's a big, comedy, battle-fest that's mostly slice of life so it doesn't really trick me into thinking there might be an overarching plot worth following and then finding out there kind of isn't? IDK.
    • @Cobalt360Degrees
      @Cobalt360Degrees 2 роки тому +1
      @@DoveJS Yeah, obviously the character's aren't exactly 1:1, since there wasn't really romance or family drama in Xiyouji for the expected reasons, but Kagome is Tripitaka, Inuyasha is Monkey, Miroku is Pigsy, Sango is Sandy, and Shippo and Kirara share some aspects of the Horse. The character parallels get a little less direct with the supporting cast but aspects of Kikyo are very much like Quanyin, and Sesshomaru shares certain characteristics with the Bull Demon King. Kagome definitely has similarities to Tripitaka in that they are the driving force of the journey (with Tripitaka being the bearer of the sacred texts and Kagome being the one to have shattered the jewel) and, while indeed having certain very specific powers, are the more mundane of the party, not really contributing to the current conflict unless they've been kidnapped or find some way to help out at the very last minute.
      And yeah, it's kinda crazy how, even with Xiyouji's Monster of the Week-like formula, Inuyasha still manages to have parallel parts that really drag and take a lot of effort to stick with. And Trixie really hit the nail on the head with the sentiment that the eventual ending could have happened literally dozens of chapters earlier without missing anything meaningful, and still also made perfect sense.
      Inuyasha was the first truly longrunning series I ever completely fell out of love with for almost exactly what you said. The overarching plot feels almost completely irrelevant for so much of the series (especially with how weak of a character Naraku is) and getting to the end just to sit there flabbergasted like 'you wasted all of my time for *that???'*
    I liked that anime, Yura Sakasagami is still the sexiest character I have seen.
    Show fails when characters are too safe, in the first chapters Naraku tricks and tries to kill Seshoumaru the most powerful character seen, he kills Kikio, curses Miroku as his father, showing that he has tons of ways to attack them, Kills the demon slayers forces Kohaku to attack them all and makes him his puppet, gets the pieces of the gem this is done in a few episodes but after that there are tons of episodes where he does do nothing, absolutely nothing.
    Until he kills Kikio's corpse and actually he does not even kill her so where is the danger? Inu Yasha for me is like a japanese Lord of the Rings or a DnD you have the wizard, rogue, healer, warrior team traveling to fight the evil on a journey, they know interesting factions and fighting not the real evil but the treachorous one, the snake, this was supposed to be the tragedy as this bastard can attack them from behind, or when they were distracted, they also go for increasing the lore with cute characters which are good for an RPG but not so good for an anime.
    Regarding the band of 7 this is when I felt that the series started moving again, I also think that they should have dealt with certain enemies themselves and specially when you are doing and mentioning Yu Yu Hakusho balance the characters and make workarounds, for example when who is the strongest on Yu Yu Hakusho main cast? Well, I guess Yusuke is the default response but who would win in a fight? what about Hiei? Yeah he can win also and he is more determined, what about Kurama, he definitely can defeat everyone and is the most brutal on the show also the smartest and his other form scares everyone far beyond Hiei's just surpassed by Yusuke's, still Kurama is the most coldblooded of them all, and Kuwabara who gets infinite stamina out of nowhere with his sword that cuts dimensions they all can defeat others I am pretty sure Sango has tricks to kill Inu Yasha but is not shown as she never kills a demon as powerful as he is, the monk should be able to destroy Kikio or Kagome but it is not shown as he never kills or seals someone as strong, Kagome should be able to destroy Inu Yasha but it is never shown as she is crazy powerful but never trains, this is how and when Inu Yasha fails, o.k. let's keep Naraku but make another factions that fight different go along with the series and change the world accordingly maybe a demon faction trying to take over the world and look for a second object so you can split them and make them decide what is going to be a priority and also that will allow Naraku to be more competent as he can speak in favor of hybrids and backstabb factions, oh now you can bring ninjas in a competent way to the mix, so you have a war bigger than them you have the muscle and actually you can have also the duty as it is completely plausible to have a human faction renewing the demon slayers and others to kill people like Inu Yasha and Naraku so you will have those old allies as Sango and Miroku fighting against our heroes.
    When you see goblin slayer there is cooperation and management resources which is another route so why don't you use the team instead of letting Inu Yasha take the enemies solo? This is when the band of 7 makes sense because we have a team against other team right away with different skills able to neutralize each others you can go old shonen and make them fight taking turns or you can go with different encounters at once until one decimates the antagonist faction.
    Bro I hate when normies b1tch about age or appeareance on a fictitious game or show, oh he is grooming a child, so what, is not she able to love him? He will remain with her once she is older and he still looks like a 19 years old, that's stupid should he let her die in the woods then so normies could have been satisfied?
    If you ask me the best ending should have been Miroku killing Naraku with the help of Kagome and dying on the process exactly how it was foreshadowed multiple times, Sango carries his baby and is the link between demons and humans, Seshoumaru deals with the other world takeover another faction, arc and way to expand, Inuyasha and Kagome get in this timeline fighting evil number one million and they can come back later to see how the new order begins and then you can have a continuation or an ending.
    I am utterly shocked you're gay and talked about Sesshomaru so little. Cause HE.... IS THE ONLY AND SOLE REASON WHY INUYASHA WAS AND IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE MOAT POPULAR AMONG GIRLS AND WOMEN. if you were a straight male I maybe would understand but even straight guys who talk about Inuyasha always drool over Sesshomaru so like..... wakey wakey..... why you think Yashahime made a comeback centered not around INUYASHA but AROUND SESSHOMARU'S DAUGHTER..... it was a poor excuse to simply make Sesshomaru somewhat main character again and give him more screen time cause all of us girls just want to see him again and not just rewatch old Inuyasha over and over and over again like I do just to see SESSHOMARU. 😂😅 ALTHOUGH I am sure I'll be speaking for everyone that I would much appreciate if the sequel of Inuyasha would simply be about Sesshomaru and Sesshomaru alone and not his daughters. But on the other hand I absolutely love seeing powerful female character once again stealing the show and the fact that both Inuyasha and Sesshomaru have ONLY DAUGHTERS makes me love Rumiko Takahashi even more. Since we know that in Japanese society still having a son is deemed as more valuable. This is why she also strucks more with girls here as well because in this age for FORTUNATELY RISING FEMINISM she only emphasizes the pride of having daughters and I absolutely fucking love it.
    I think the most hilarious thing about Inuyasha is that Inuyasha constantly left Kikyou to die with zero guilt (at least 5 times in the manga; the last and final time was right before her final death when he deliberately abandoned her to her murderer) but this myth still goes around that he loved her.
    This ship failed at the most basic level of "I will protect my loved one from their murderer" despite Inuyasha getting countless chances.
    There were so many moments of him leaving Kikyou to die that some had to be cut out of the anime. 🙄 Not surprising since the Sunrise studio were Inukik shippers. They went out of their way to cut out Inukag scenes. Guess they couldn't cut out Inuyasha's final "bye bitch" to Kikyou because it was connected to her final death. Im sure they would have if they could have.
    They did make his bye bitch more palatable with having him apologize to her, when in the manga, he was so focused on Kagome and wanting to go to her instead of Koga, he left Kikyou with nary a word. Not even a final goodbye or a fire rat, considering her body was disintegrating.
    I honestly prefer the manga overall. The anime would definitely be better if you cut it down to around 60 episodes. But that goes for pretty much every long running shounen. Long stories can be great, but they really need to take place over a long period of time if they're going to be that long. Most episodes of Inuyasha and other long running shounen just feel very formulaic without any plot progression.
    Very relatable takes overall; I finally sat down with this one just last year and came to many of the same conclusions. In the end, Inuyasha really was the perfect show to lull me to sleep after a long day at work. I did skip all non-canon filler, however.
    Have to disagree on Kagura, though: her near-futile fight for self-determination made her one of the more interesting characters to follow. Girl had serious chutzpah.
      Strong agree on Kagura, she was my favorite character in the show.
    I love Urusei Yatsura and everything Takahashi creates. I don't know if I'm spelling correctly.
    I know your previous incarnation didn't like Inyuasha because Naraku always managed to escape to live to fight another day, but that's a story telling device similar to Neil Gaiman's Sandman, where the weird sisters were always set up to be the looming threat.
    It's also like the Doctor vs The Master, or Lupin vs Inspector Zenigata.
    The rivalry can go on forever, or end when those particular characters decide enough is enough.
    That structure provides a potentially infinite backdrop through which the itinerant knight can travel the land righting wrongs or going on adventures.
    Like Quantum Leap. ❤
    Also, David Lynch would have kept Twin Peaks going forever without ever solving the mystery. Ratings declined when the studio forced him to explain Bob.
