Chomche was an absolute steal, youngest player in draft and summer league insane movement for a 7 footer. Also need to take into account that he hasn’t really played organized basketball and he only started playing 4 years ago. The kid has that dawg in him. If he went to the NCAA this year instead of NBA he’d be a lottery pick next year.

The only disappointment I had about summer league was Gradey and Mogbo got hurt. Gradey is going to be at least a high tier player, he was flying all over the place, creating space for everyone else to score. Amazing, he's working to be more than a shooter, it's no coincidence they couldn't score when Gradey wasn't there attracting the other team's attention.

GD shot 8-26 fg / 0-9 3fg in two SL games... for a guy labeled as the best shooter in the 2023 draft he is very streaky. Everyone in the Raptors regular SL rotation made at least one 3fg including Chomche except GD. GD is more hype than proven right now from a segment of the Raptors fan base. I see Ja'Kobe Walter potentially being better than GD by the All-Star break. Time will tell.

@@IceManLikeGervinYeah what's crazy is he was still best player out there for them, playing great ball and finding a way to impact winning without shot falling which is what you need from 3 point shooters.
He had slow start last year, the shot was falling though. Kids can be streaky, 37% ain't bad first year.
I'm less worried about the shot with Gradey, I do think its there and only improving.
I was focused on the other parts of game that looked great in summer league. Even his defence looks solidly improved. He added another 10 lbs of muscle.
Off ball movement looks great. He was cutting very well. Passing very well. Rebounding and hustle plays were there.
      I was very encouraged.

@@SidiousPalp In game one he made some nice passes and got some rebounds but in game two he didn't even do that while still throwing up mostly bricks. Plus, he couldn't create off the bounce and was a turnstile on defense in both games that he played in.
In game two the Raps actually played better against Denver, who they were losing to, after GD left the game at halftime.
A shooter who can't consistently shoot is exactly what in the NBA? Btw- GD shot 36% from three last season and 42% on all fg attempts.
I was very disappointed especially when compared to other notable players from the 2023 draft class who played much better during SL.

Gotta remember, the league hates the Raptors. Masai cooked for the future this draft. No other team was able to do what we did. The media is biased, petty and jealous. Give these kids a year in the league with one of the best organizations in sports. Let's see at the end of the season.

The Raps 4 rookies will most likely struggle to be a part of their projected regular 9 man rotation (Poeltl, SB, RJ, Brown, IQ, Mitchell, Olynyk, GD, Agbaji) to begin the regular season - barring injuries. The 4 rookies will most likely make up the core of the 905 for the most of the season. Raps could still make a trade/free agent signing as well. The Raps current roster/depth chart:
    CP: Poeltl/Olynyk
    PF: Barnes/Boucher/Mogbo
    SF: Barrett/Dick/Temple
    SG: Brown/Ogbaji/Walter
    PG: Quickley/Mitchell/Shead
    Two Way Contracts:
    G DJ Carton
    C Branden Carlson
    C Ulrich Chomche
    Exhibition 10 Contracts:

But for me I think the most concern this season is size. Raps have a ridiculous trove of back court so hoping to filter out the ones that dont fit. Front court not so much. We will get bodied up front. Crossing fingers for koloko to attend training camp and sticking with the main roster.

I will put on record. I was a bit confused by Walter pick myself.
Theres a scout I really trust who said his shot was inconsistent and he didnt defend well, but billed as 3 and D guy. Hopefully he develops.
Mogbo confused me a bit with who was available at the time. But scout I trust loved the pick, so both him and Masai bought in, Ill have faith.
Shead seems like a great pick, a bit strange to get him and Mitchell at same time, but again scout I trust made point that having multiple havoc wreakers at the point of attack is never a bad thing, and we did need it, so now weve got depth, all good.
Chomche seems like a great high upside project that costs them nothing if he doesnt pan out.
Overall, pretty solid, I do wondee if we couldve done better with Walter pick, but hopefully he turns into a solid 3 amd D player.

I think D+ is fair because most of these guys are drafted to be back of the bench and development core none of them are expected to start and even Gradey who is a more solid Bench guy was injured so didn't really factor in most of SL. Ochai was a disappointment and leaves many question marks ... I think Masai or the FO needs to have that Stanley Johnson/ PJ Tucker conversation with Ochai; he needs to get the hurry up convo given to him.
In any case we've made our development program soft over the years with the Nick Nurse program. It's time we have a development program that can iterate quick and can instill both discipline and good work ethics with these new additions. Enough with the hand holding, and making excuses for guys or doing the whole wait and see approach. They deliver or they go, they want to be here competing or they go ... we need guys hitting the gym not tik-tok. So to get guys who are hard workers and even be labelled try hards (which is what we loved about our guys coming up the Casey development pipeline) we need the media like Bleacher Report writing negative press like this, we need to have guys who play with a chip on their shoulder who play like they have to prove the entire league wrong every time they lace up. Therefore a hostile media landscape is a net benefit to get our guys locked in ... they really need that wake up call. You don't produce you become like Gary Trent taking a paycut but if you do produce you can be like FVV, OG, and Pascal locking in Max contracts. They need to have that convo with management like hey if you don't succeed in Toronto you are bust for the whole league so don't be messing about on time wasting bad habits.

People need to come back to reality and stop thinking every first round pick should develop into a star. Walter was a project player (young/raw/not ready for the NBA who will hopefully develop) picked at pick 19 in a weak draft. We should be happy if he develops into anything as he probably would have been a late first round/early second round pick in a half decent draft. Most NBA draft classes only have 5-6 players who become NBA all-stars on average, why do people expect our 19th pick project to become one of those. If he does great, but reality is he won't play much this year and hopefully he develops into a useable piece.

What the Raptors did was replace GTJ with Mitchell, which was a good thing because it ensures playing time for some Of the young players. Other than that, they totality turned over the 3 Rd string players, if the outcome is 1 of them pans out, and 1 of the 2 ways pans out in 2 years, that would be great. It is year 1 of the rebuild. They have 2 pics for next draft. Then maybe by summer of 26, decision will need to be made. If / and when you see mogbo running with Scottie on an open break and he’s dunking on heads, keep that energy. Toronto had an awful Ben h last year . They have a way cheaper and better one this year. If Barrett plays like he does with team Canada/last season raps, and Scottie takes a leap.. raptors won’t be a bad team. Not elite, but not bad. They also have another pick, plus their own for next summer. I’m curious what they can get for BB and Boucher. Raptors were awful in rebounding and bench points.. they addressed both in this draft. if the rumours are true about koloko, I’d much rather have him than filipowski. Carlson is a lite version of him, and we don’t have a nut job wife/babysitter on our hands. All these players are going to be different under home court lights and knowing they have other plays to take most of the pressure. Ur a homer bro ... I luv the raps but this draft class did not look good at all. The worst of the bunch was Mogboo, looks like they drafted him cause he is Scotties boy 👎
