I was in the 3rd bus , behind the bus that plunged into the lake.. Saw the bus plunge in right in front of my eyes, we scream and shout couldn't believe when we saw this..I lost two of my girl classmates.. Most terrible and saddest time for us all of Lake government secondary school.. We pray for few minutes before class lesson start and after class lesson end for our late schoolmates , late classmates and training teacher.. All teachers wear black.. My agriculture science teacher told us that he lost about 8 young students (transition class). He said sadly that he sang song with them that morning . Then they were pull up from the lake one by one..1979..
Thanks for the sharing. It must be a very terrible time for everyone in Bau at that time. I am sure everyone in town would somehow know some of the victims personally, either as friends or relatives.

It was the worst marine disaster in the history of Sarawak, tecnically it was not a ferry but it was passenger vessel named MV: PULAU KIDJANG. In 27 Dec 1973, the vessel sunk near Tanjung Jerijeh Sarikei, dozens drown, including young childrens. RIP for those souls.

One of my teacher was inside the bus and he told us his near death exprecience. He was my Form Teacher in Serian Secondary School in 1991-1992.

Sorry to hear about the bus trategy
It is really a very beautiful lake with beautiful limestone hills as backdrop. That bus incident was one of the most tragic unfortunately.
this is one of the sad history of Sarawak, the other was rarely known.. Sunk ferry in early 80`s
