Hi guys! Have you ever been to The Ocean Race before? We've been in Itajaí (this is the third time) and also in The Hague! We absolutely love this event and would love to hear your thoughts as well!
Put some really big and thick washer on the underside of the winch. I have seen these bolt rip right throught the hull or deck, and you dont want that.
Hello Ben n MP, I’ve been following your channel for while now. I’m originally from Guyana, three countries West of Brazil but lives in NY. I admire the amount of work done by good old traditional South American craftsmen, reminding me of my country, also the fun and laughter. That being said, just a little advice, don’t lose focus to keep quality and standards in the last lap of this restoration. I think you chain locker cover do with more sturdy hinges. Best wishes. Sail down to Georgetown when your done.😃
Great episode as ever. I hate to be the one to tell you but that wiring is much too small for that windlass. I think those windlasses are 24V @ 140A so you will need 0AWG - 53mm wire for a short run - less than 5m. A 12m will require 0000AWG - 95mm sq. So put the battery as close to the windlass as practical. It is important to get this right, you don't want to set fire to Yaba the first time you pull up the anchor.
Hi Tim! Thank you so much for all the info and for caring about our safety. We actually got confused when editing the episode. Let me clarify our plans: From the windlass to the relays we will use a 35mm sq cable (2AWG equivalent) - its distance is 1,5m. Then from the relay box to the battery we will be using, I'm not 100% sure, but I believe it's or 000AWG or 0000AWG, as the distance is around 10m. Our windlass is 2300W and will be running on 24V, so we are calculating everything based on a 96A. I'm sorry about the mixed information given and I hope this gives you a better picture of what we will be actually doing. Thanks again for caring!

Great job on the Windlass guy's. You are both so talented at this stuff. That Windlass should work well for a long time. Loved The Oceon Race, so interesting and colourful. Things are really moving again. Thanks for sharing. Keep well and safe. James.
Caliou is a very well adjusted dog , it seems as long as you two are around he is calm and in no way aggressive, this is a very good trait and is very difficult to train in if it’s not part of the dog’s upbringing! He is a good friend!
Good morning favorite UA-cam folks! Caillou steals the shot! I got completely lost on the windlass. As long as you know what’s going on. Excellent coverage of the race. Closer and closer!
Cailou was telling you that if you would have put strips of tape around the perimeter that were wide enough to go under the mat and out onto the deck and then place the mat on it. You could’ve used the knife to trim the tape. Then you just simply take the tape out from under the mat, put down your Sica flex and then after you had the mat in place and pressed down, you could’ve pulled up your tape before the Sica flex cured and had a nice clean line. You wouldn’t of had to try to carve away all that squeeze out afterwards that way. Too bad you didn’t listen, so you made it hard on yourself. He’s a very smart dog, that’s probably why he’s gonna be captain 😂❤😂
The Yaba rebuild has been an epic voyage watching from sinking sad hull to a smiling Yaba with a new life beginning . Hey guys use stainless dome nuts on the uppers - that will help prevent water and salt ingress between nut and stud threads as you have a risk of now. Also think about denso tape for other thread fittings on upper deck. Horrible stuff but works a treat.

i would leave the holes as is. With the low freeboard yaba has they will take a wave every now and then and bigger holes would lead to more water coming in onto the deck.
Using allthread - the threaded bars- to get the proper length is fine, they are strong enough, but you need to weld the nuts on the top otherwise the nuts will loosen over time. Also, always put bolts on anything with the head upwards and the nut on the bottom of whatever you're attaching it to. That way if the nut loosens for some reason the bolt won't fall out.

Hi, are you doing bigger holes for your bow cleats, I would they're big enough for the actual rope but it will move around .
i would leave the holes as is. With the low freeboard yaba has they will take a wave every now and then and bigger holes would lead to more water coming in onto the deck.
Good job, guys!!!😊🎉❤
Thank you Chandra! 😍
That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the heads up!
Also, if using all thread it can be handy to cut a slot in the end for a screwdriver.
3.5mm is knowhere near big enough. 2300w on 12v is nearly 200 amps. You need 10mm cable. 24v system needs similar.
Sorry, we got confused. It's actually 35mm² (2AWG equivalent).
Just a guess,but are those wires '35 mm'?😅

You said Italian. Is that windlass a Quick? If yes it's an excellent make however, DO NOT use foot switches. The Quick ones are rubbish. I had one short out at, as normal, a bad time. I got rid of mine and got the hand remote. Far far easier and far safer. Saludos
Thanks!
would you please comment with the name/company that makes the bicycle dog basket? We have been looking for something similar!!
