    I’ve had the Milkman 100 about a year and love it. I think the Cab Sim and headphone out (with ATM50x) sound great. I get compliments from the band and sound crews. Tim said he modeled a cream back for the Cab Sim, so I have a neo-creamback in a 1x12. Super light, highly versatile rig. There’s a trade off between the familiar sag of a tube amp and the Milkman’s tight bottom. I often play country gigs switching between a Tele and a lap steel with palm benders. So I’m loving the headroom and tight bottom. I chose the Milkman over the Tonemaster and don’t regret it.

    Honestly, not sure what it is about this amp and demo but I think this might be the best sounding tones I’ve heard from you. There’s a certain depth and creaminess (?) to these tones that I’m in love with.

    Thanks for posting, its sounds really nice under your hands, I have this Amp now for a year on my pedalboard and i love it. Not only for the sound but also because it is so flexibel. I can use it wit any cab, into a PA or both or direct into my computer. Its like a Swiss Army Knife for me

    Really enjoyed your playing with a cleaner sound. Really articulate. The Milkman has a really complex, organic sound. Lovely valve-like squish and warmth. I think it probably needs a player of your standard to really appreciate what it’s giving out. I’m confident I could make it sound bad

    Yes! super interested in knowing more about the Quilter stuff. According to the internets they sound good and weigh very little. But really interested in your take on thems since you have so much experience with so many products.

    I have the 50w and it’s a great pedal platform for home use. Fantastic cleans for jazz etc. I’ve never liked the sound of a single 12ax7 driven all by itself, so I don’t use it that way. I also bought mine used. They are expensive, but not as much as a Victory V4 for example.

    I like my The Amp Stereo. Solid state, so slightly different animal, but super useful for powering up old cabs with my FM3. Cheers, D

    I agree with your take here. I purchased the 50 watt version 8 months ago. It's a great sounding piece of gear if your thing is that fendery clean thing. I use it for jazz, blues and country gigs here in Austin, TX and I get a lot of compliments on the sound. It is a little immediate in the feel of the notes, but that is to be expected with the solid state power section. It's a great throw and go rig. I have been enjoying it and it holds up pretty well considering my go to amp for the last 10 years has been a 1965 Fender Vibrolux Reverb.

    I was looking for a pedal platform amp when I bought it more than a year ago and it's just perfect. Just a somple interface and it takes pedal so well. I've got a Boss GE-7 in front, just to be more versatile in adapting to the room. It's just my sound and it feels great to me, so in the end it's just about that. Beeing able to put in a backpack when taking it with me is just ridiculous. For anyone interested...it has 50watt on 16ohm, 100watt on 8ohm and 200watt on 4ohm. The Manual said something different, so I wrote Tim at Milkman and he clarified that the manual indeed had a mistake.

    Overall, it's a great unit and an amazing pedal-platform. I've had mine for two years, and it has seen lots of use at home and in the studio. Using a Walrus 335 as an overdrive, I can make it sound like a small amp "turned up to eleven" at amazingly low volume. It sounds HUGE.
    The only real negative is the quality of the IR on the XLR and headphone output. Honestly, it's not very good. It's ok as long as there's not too much overdrive going on, but I've had to resort to using IR's during post to make it sound decent if I've been using it for silent recording with ny sort of distortion. And even with excellent IRs, it wasn't ideal. Connected to a cab though, absolutely stellar. It almost rival my $3500 Carr Rambler.

    Please do demo some of the Quilter stuff if possible. Been thinking of grabbing one, but there aren't enough good demos of them that I've found. Interested in how it stacks up vs the Milkman and the IR-X. (Yes, I know they aren't all apples to apples)

    I have The Amp Stereo by Milkman, essentially the stereo version of this amp. It is fantastic and scratches the itch of having a tube amp in the arsenal. It's the one I grab when I want to use a bunch of real pedals. The headroom on it is insane! It sounds amazing played through the Fender Tone Master FR-12 speaker.

    • @vinnyguerriero5150

      @@vinnyguerriero5150 Yup, it's solid state, but sounds virtually indistinguishable from a tube amp when A-B'd against the other Milkman tube amps. I'll trade the extra headroom for real tubes any day.

  • @jamesbennettmusic2154

    The 50 watt version had a ton of noise if you used it in the UK (a guitarist friend uses one and said Milkman confirmed it’s a power issue). They seem to have sorted that for this version, but I’d rather have the trem circuit from that than the boost. Cool product though, very similar to the BluGuitar stuff.

    Ive always thought these were really cool, but i find it hard to believe its that much better than every single model in the hx stomp to justify its price over just buying a stomp.

    • @stephenpepper1790
      @stephenpepper1790 4 місяці тому

      I’ve used both for gigs. Granted, I’m doing mostly early 20s and 30’s swing, I prefer the feel of the Milkman when in the room. The boost is much more dynamic than most modelers. But it all sort of goes out the window once you start adding a lot of gain or breakup.

    Did anyone ever had issues with the pedal level output of these? I have the 50w and when I plug in straight to a cab or D.I. it sounds amazing but everything gets fizzy and thin when using the pedal out into the front end of an amp (even when using the exact same speaker and cabinet!) it is pretty much unuseable this way and Milkman’s costumer service didn’t help much…

  • @joshm465
    @joshm465 7 місяців тому

    Sounded really nice with the comp on. Maybe made it sound/feel a little more like it had a cranked tube power section, which is the one thing this unit can’t necessarily do.
    I played the 50w combo a few weeks ago and it really exceeded my expectations. I feel like it would be a great option for funk having that class D power section.

    1st impression the Milk is very hi-fi and really articulate, can one justify its cost? It reminds me like the sound of the Kingsley pedals.
    My accountant always wants to do a cost benefit analysis on musical equipment. I think (certainly you) get lots of musical mileage from an HX-Stomp. Now my accountant liked the Keeley BluesDriver and the Zendrive. They produced a large amount of cash flow at a very affordable cost. Getting back to the Milkman, I think it would be a great pedal to use in combination with the HX Stomp. I feel that way about the Friedman, or other “amp-the-box” types and especially with your talents. I’m a believer in those four or five pedal pedalboards.
    I know accountants like them. Of course There’s always the statement that gears is suppose to be inspirational. There is a modicum of truth there. Still, I will argue that playing music is highly inspirational! That’s especially true for the pub crowd, 50,000 concert goers, and even mom and dad.
    B.B. King’s opening phrase to “Sweet Little Angel” was all I needed…all the inspiration not the gear that I needed . Thanks again John, keep up the good work.

    I don't really get the use case for this thing, especially if one questions the use case of the ua pedals. If you go direct with this, well it's huge and expensive for what it does, has no midi, has no presets, etc etc. if you are going to use it as a traditional amp, you have to bring a speaker cab plus this, so why not just bring a normal amp, you are hauling heavy speakers either way. You can get any of the modeling pedals and a pedalboard power amp for less size, weight, and money and so the same thing. So I guess the question is does this sound substantially better than the other small solutions, not really to my ears. Especially after it's going through a pa, will be indistinguishable from a modeler

      I have The Amp 100 and mostly agree with this. I bought it to replace a Princeton and a UA Dream because I wanted to consolidate/simplify my gear and not have to mess with pedal settings going back and forth between the PRRI and Dream. In hindsight, getting a power amp for the Dream might have been the better move. I use it with a 12" cab at home, but generally leave it at home and use a backline cab when playing out. The nice thing is that it can power any cab (4, 8, or 16 ohm), it can be used to power a cab and go direct to PA at the same time, and can be used in wet/dry/wet setup.

    Hmm, for $849 USD, for a hybrid pedal/head amp, a 1 Channel amp no less, it better nail a tone better than anything else, or have a bunch of added workflow tools/features. This doesn't on any of those accounts. It sounds good, but that should be a bare minimum at even lower price points. AND frankly, you make EVERYTHING sound good, and yet you have sounded better than this on cheaper gear. But thanks for showing me, I don't want this, let alone need it.

    Milkman is hilarious with their pricing - while this amp and the other 50w amp of similar design aren't stupid high like the amps. For example a Milkman 15W HT will run me *$5,318* up here in Canada hahaha..R....U....Serious? I mean, when you start getting above $3k you better be able to spot this stuff in double *blind* listening tests. Its absurd. Yes, the CDN $ sucks right now but still, that's almost $4k USD @_@ . Hard hard pass...
