Looking forward to this series. LRB turned me on to Killis.... Next species I plan to keep.
I learned quite a bit, the kilifish are grabbing my interest. Looking forward to the next one.
Great info they are beautiful. Thanks for sharing
Awesome informative video j.h those are gorgeous n love the different methods and hatching the fry .cant wait to see future vids on them.
This is super informative, thank you so much! I almost got a pair of these but I'm glad I found out the details bc it wouldn't have been what I was looking for.
It may help to have a completely separate spawning tank. As of now, the female has established a territory and is defending against your males. I use a 4 tank per species setup. I also recommend sexing and keeping a few more females so you can rotate through, giving each one recovery time. Great video! Keep us posted!
So true!!
I have my m and f in a tank separated by a divider, when I want them to breed I scoop up the female and dunk her into the male’s side. That tends to go a lot better than putting the male with the female
Love it!
Thanks for this video I just left my LFS today and they said they would be interested in killifish if I can successfully breed them. They mentioned the Ph of our water around here so idk 🤷♂️.
That's interesting. I don't split up my males and females and they don't beat each other up. That being said, I don't get very many eggs from the mop, just a few here and there. Maybe I'll try your method. Yes, I'd like to see what you do w/ the eggs.
My fish have many eggs but so so many of them just shrivel into nothing/die for some reason?? Idk why... is it that the male isn’t very fertile and the eggs are degrading or should you not move them once they’ve settled on the bottom? I’ve had a few eggs start developing to the point of seeing movement inside and then a few days later just gone... i saw a few tiny bugs/microorganism things on it a lot, should they be kept in cleaner water?
You are such a fish-nerd! 🤣 🤣
I have a question. Can you eat Gardneri Killifish? .. I bought some fish some weeks ago from the Fish market. After eating it I found out it was Gardneri Killifish.
I’ve been breeding my killies for a few months now but I’ve had no luck and I just don’t know why... they mate, female lays, I gently remove/roll the eggs off the mop right after (maybe this is why?) and put them in a breeder box, yet many of their eggs just shrivel up into nothingness- like they’re infertile, or develop to the point of seeing something moving inside, then also disappears or shrinks... and if I don’t take the mop/eggs somewhere safe, the eggs always just pop off the mop and fall on the ground after a few days. Any clue what’s going on? Should I leave the eggs for 24 hours before trying to remove them? Will the male not eat the eggs if he’s left alone with the mop? Should I wait before taking the eggs out the water?
