  • In Sweden, sweets are taken very seriously, just like having fun! A specific weekday is dedicated to candies, and an entire calendar is dedicated to Swedish specialities. I am particularly fond of sweets that are lagom, which means not too sweet, not too mild, but just the right amount of sweetness. These sweets usually have dough or Swedish cream, which adds some neutral flavours. Being balanced in sweetness is lagom, which is something very Swedish. The same goes for saving the candies for Saturdays, instead of indulging daily. That's why candies here are called lördagsgodis.
So, I'm a newbie at Lund University, and we have this Mentor Group that I couldn't meet in the first month. At the time, I didn't know our mentors had this genius idea for October 4. Then, I received that lovely message. They were inviting our whole Mentor Group to celebrate the Kanelbullens Dag (Cinnamon Bun Day) the best way, by baking cinnamon buns together. So, we had that pleasant evening talking about each other, our home countries, and our studies while rolling out the dough, preparing the filling with cinnamon, sugar and butter (vegan version approved!), rolling up the dough and cutting it, having some tea together while waiting for the buns to grow, baking it for a few minutes and voilá! We couldn't stop eating them all!
