If you're new here welcome! My name is Laura Mullen Vermilye and I am an iron casting metal artist. Being a cast iron artist is an interesting - and at times tough journey, but the rewards far exceed all challenges. While working with cast iron to create my art I am exposed to an amazing community of artists who are as dedicated and passionate as I am. The cast iron art culture is a major influence in my life and on my work and I want to share this artistic adventure with anyone who is interested in seeing hard working people make amazing art with a hot and dangerous material. To do this, I make vlog style videos on this channel that chronicle the artwork that I am currently making and my journeys in Metalsmithing and iron casting. In between casting and metal art videos you may also see some behind the scenes footage of me roaming around the heart of the Midwest and the Ozarks. Thank you to all you folks that are as interested in my small metal project as you are in my cast iron art! Thanks for tunin' in, and as always - I love you.

Nice work Laura! Your techniques helped me immensely. I broke the arm off a fairly new pair of eyeglasses- which cost me over $400 after insurance. Super glue worked great for a couple hours, but inevitably snapped when I bumped them. But when I tried your method of placing tiny bits of solder right where you want in the flux and hit it with the torch, I was able to genuinely repair them! Thank you so much!

    Poor Laura.
As a 69 tear old, world class procrastinator I can completely relate. I often find myself dragging my feet on parts of projects that I’m uncertain about and like you, get drawn towards other more mundane tasks with a more certain outcome. Ninety five percent of the time, when the avoided tasks are tackled, they turn out fine and prove to be not worth the worry. The other five percent, well, we’ll call those learning experiences. If I were under the UA-cam microscope, like you put yourself, the procrastination would be even more rampant.
Your work, both in cast iron and the silver is amazing and although not something I would do, I really enjoy watching you practice your crafts.
Keep up the wonderful work and don’t get discouraged. You are a brave woman for putting yourself out there, like you do.

    Looking good!
Have you ever done these miniature tools by casting?
You know, using pewter or type metal.
If the end of the video is a promise what's coming, Me like!
Real life sounds almost always beats filler music

Late to the party, but... so... how does it feel to be, like, the only person EVER who dreaded a task because of the unknowns! ;-) ;-)
(Okay... show of hands! ... You in the back... get that hand up!)
I guess it's not really fear of mistakes -- if you can keep your focus , it's fear of *uncorrectable* mistakes. ;-) Maybe there aren't so many of those, after all.
