Two weeks ago my son and I rode our Klr's to Creede, Colorado for a week of camping and fishing. I rode from Southwest Oklahoma and he rode from Fayetteville, Arkansas. In the weeks prior to the trip, my son bought a new seat. Sorry, I can't recall the brand, but it was around $400. The problem is when your bike is packed and loaded down for a trip like that, you are pretty much riding up on the tank. When he was test riding the new seat around town, he was really looking forward to that long ride from Fayetteville to Black Mesa State Park where we camped the first night. But in reality there was actually not much difference in the new seat verses the stock seat because of the loaded riding position. I just thought people should consider this before they spend the money on something they won't benefit much from.
That my friend is some excellent information. One that I may not have considered. I was loaded when I went to Oklahoma. and I am planning a 2500 mile round trip, trip soon as well. I will be taking about the same amount of gear for camping off the bike there and back. so Yes sir, I can see that being an issue. I didn’t know Hank Hill rode motorcycles let alone a KLR! lol, you sound exactly like him. I bought a 2023 KLR 650 Adventure ABS last month and have been learning and loving it. I am trying to extend my distance to work up to an Iron Butt Association ride. Great video and thank you for posting.

I had cruise control on my Road King, I didn't have it on my Africa Twin, or my Himalayan, I didn't miss it. For me a full day is 500 miles (800 km). Everybody is different and it also depends on the road your riding. I don't think there is a gravel road that I have traveled that I would use a cruise control on. I like the variety of shots in this video are great but the quality of the video is very rough. Maybe think about increasing the data rate or updating your cameras.

On 10-27-23, I took a 2 day, 925 mile trip on my '23 KLR "S" . First day was 375 miles, second 550. I am 69, 6'1" 245. All miles were hwy/interstate. I have a 'Seat Concepts' touring seat, National Cycle tall VStream windshield and a GoCruise throttle lock. The seat definitely makes long distance riding better as does the windscreen, and there is no way I woulda been able to complete the ride w/o the GoCruise. I had alot of fun and highly recommend a KLR as an inexpensive way to tour. I am also in agreement with all the items u mentioned in this excellent vid. Ride safe sir!

hahahah, I totally get the it wasn't terrible. and yes there is more comfortable options. IF I am doing a long ride, I will wear bike shorts, padded mountain bike shorts the first couple of days to help the rear and seat break in together. I figure I had them so might as well. use. them. No, I actually have the uncle mikes brand for stabilizer on this bike, I honestly can't tell that it does anything other than remove your boot from sealing the top of the fork properly. I have the same klr I went from ni to Athens ga not one problem. All yeses no complaints that's a eight hundred mile plus mile trip mine you I have all heavy crash guards and skid plate and hand guards heavy inner tubes and motoz tractionater tires all heavy stuff and heavy battery

@@Heartlanddualsport My interest is to see if the KLR can be made more comfortable for touring with a 16t or 17t sprocket and ECU remapping afterwards, so that the fuel/air ratios are tuned to the new gearing requirements. It seems like a logical thing to do because the fuel/air requirements will be different different with different performance modifications. I just found that for KLRs, Magnum Tuning ECU, but after looking into them, I'd be cautious unless you hear otherwise. All the reviews, even by Americans, have very poor English, and don't seem original. And they wouldn't answer me publicly when I asked them what, if any, advantage they have over a PC6/power commander. In any case, after looking into this stuff for the last 2 days, I think it's fair to say that it is easy and relatively cheap to get 20% (6hp) more power out of a KLR than stock with a quality air filter, exhaust, and EFI tuner, but would like to hear what others can add from personal experience. I have seen power curves that demonstrate that kind of increase even with the plug+play type EFI tuners. I mean, a BMW 310 performs almost the same as a KLR. Something isn't right performance wise with the stock tuning. Be cautious with the post above.
@@Heartlanddualsport Info I gathered in the last 2 days concerning the KLR EFI and what performance gains may be extracted from it. -- Bad news: DynoJet's Power Commander KLR tune does not resolve the mid-rpm fuel cut issue. Also, changing the fuel values (from 0 to 1) on 0% throttle for 3k - 7.5k RPM and it made no difference. I had a feeling this would happen. The DynoJet is a piggy back module. The ECU knows nothing of it. Good News: Definite 'seat of the pants' power increase! Pulls much better in the mid range while maintaining smooth control for the slow stuff. Looking at the maps, they achieved this by bumping up the timing advance values in the mid range. They made minimal changes to the fuel map. I'd compare the change to hitting the 'sport' button in your car or tow/pull button in your truck. -- Power Commander I don’t have one but those that have tried them on bikes in general say 1 to 2% increase. So .4 to 1.8 horsepower. Barely noticeable. The big bore kits seem to be the only thing that pumps up a KLR. -- I have two 2022 KLR’s both with power commanders. One has a Yoshi slip on and one has stock exhaust. Big improvement on both bikes but the Yoshi in my opinion gained at least 10% more. Much more throttle response and the added ability to pass cars on highway by just rolling the throttle instead of a requiring a down shift. Also a noticeable reduction in engine vibration at 60 to 70 mph. The engine just runs smoother. Definitely worth the money especially if your already adding a slip on exhaust. If you add the PC to your stock exhaust it comes with a map ready for that exhaust. You’ll notice a quicker throttle response and a bit more horsepower. Add a slip on with the PC and the improvement over stock is significant. Hopefully soon, PC will have a map specifically tuned for a few different slip on exhaust options. Either way, the PC is a great upgrade. -- Re-Flash The ECU Or Aftermarket Tuner Most modern bikes have an engine control unit (ECU), a small computer chip that controls (and much of the time strangles) various aspects of the bike’s performance. That chip is factory-programmed to comply with emissions and fuel requirements, but lucky for you, it can be remapped/re-flashed to uncork performance. An ECU (re)flash involves changing the stock onboard programming with a new tune usually resulting in good power gains (depending on your goals). But if you’re always changing parts on the bike (exhaust pipes, etc.), an ECU flash is probably not for you. Also, if done incorrectly your bike will suffer, so make sure the grease monkey doing the work knows the lay of the land. Or you can go with an aftermarket fuel/power tuner (like a Power Commander or Vance & Hines FuelPak) to adjust those stock settings. Broadly speaking, tuners come in two flavors: plug-and-play units designed for stock or lightly modified engines, and those that can be programmed to add more fuel or air and tweak other settings at different ranges to make more power to meet a highly tuned engine's needs. If you've slapped on a new pipe, you'll definitely want a tuner to get fuel mapping brought into line. These units can be a much simpler and more flexible deal than a re-flash. Result: Unless you're piggybacking with some other change, power gains won't be much, but they'll improve overall rideability. -- First, let me start by saying that the KLR EFI system is a version of 'speed density'. This means it monitors 'air density' to make changes to the fuel mapping using a MAP sensor and a 'narrow band' O2. The factory table is very narrow. It then uses the O2 reading to determine if the map/specified injector duty cycle is sufficient to keep the AFR (air/fuel ratio) within range (again, the factory O2 range is very narrow). It compensates for 'density' changes, ie; altitude and temperature. The system has no way of knowing what the 'mass air flow' actually is at any given point. When a free flowing intake and/or exhaust is installed that creates a 'mass flow' increase. Same thing if one installs a 685 kit for example. Simply bolting on 'performance parts' in general does NOT change the 'density' of the incoming air. Therefore the system has very little information to go on for making adjustments; other than it will see that the O2 reading is out of parameters for the corresponding density reading. The table the factory loads into the computer is so narrow it cannot produce appropriate compensation. Likewise, the factory has also specified rather 'lean' algorithms in regards to AFR. This means not only does the factory computer programming not have the ability (narrow band) to make enough correction but it doesn't see the 'need' to do it. Running that lean isn't going to help power output. The Power Commander gives full control over the fuel map and duty cycle (this is key) of the injector. One could literally run the injector at 100% duty cycle but it's not recommended. It would be more practical to upgrade the size of the injector at that point to maintain efficiency and longevity. Dynojet isn't in the business of 'making maps' for every bike and every combination. That's precisely why they have shops designated as "tuners" who employ a dynamometer. Dynojets' market is 'massive' in comparison to JD or most any others. What the 'autotune' (wideband) does is allow an end user to apply all of the same technology that would be used at the dyno. It tunes your engine in real time and has the ability to 'fully' compensate for any performance mods. It allows the user to specify what AFR and at what RPM/throttle position you want it. It's basically the equivalent of having a "factory" programming process right on the bike. It's a 'piggyback' system which means it intercepts the OEM input signal and then 'modifies' it to meet the parameters set forth in the map table. It's basically a constant feedback loop that allows full control over fuel and timing. Once the autotune makes a recommend table the user is able to go in and 'accept' the suggested 'trims' and/or modify them. Basically, the sky is the limit (or injector size/duty cycle) capabilities. With the setup that Willie is running and some seat time running the autotune through it's paces accepting trims (it takes many rides at different loads) to achieve, I firmly believe +10hp is not out of the question. Based on what I've seen in other applications. The big single thumper is going to benefit greatly from some ignition timing advancement because it needs more time to build cylinder pressure during the compression stroke. I'll reiterate, the KLR is NOT highly tuned from the factory; if anything it's DE-TUNED. This got a little long but there's a lot to cover. Bottom line, the PC runs circles around any other tuning module on the market in multiple ways. -- I am glad the PC+AT runs circles around simple fuel tuners. And it should because it is 3.5x the price of the JD Jetting Fuel Tuner. -- JDKAX04 - Kawasaki KLR650 (22) EFI $251.95 Easy install on bike Detailed instructions Change settings anytime Dyno and field tested, the Power Surge 6X will allow correction for humidity, temperature, air pressure, along with race fuels and motor modifications. The tuner adjusts in a matter of seconds in 6 zones, including an accelerator pump feature for more throttle snap response. The tuner can add or subtract fuel from the injection system. Conditions like rich or lean running, and stalling from flame-out at low revs can be corrected. The Power Surge 6X stays mounted on the motorcycle or quad. -- 33->39HP with the JD part. You'll need Snorkel delete and I believe a Uni Filter, plus your Delkevic exhaust to get to these results. -- I am surprised that it is nearly impossible to find Gen3 KLR owners that have posted info on using a high performance air filter + exhaust with a quality EFI tuner or dyno tune. The KLR is right on the edge of being a very highway capable/comfortable with proper gearing (17t, or 16t/40t = 800 lower RPMs at highway speeds) and the potential extra power these things can provide (6hp = 20%). A BMW 310 GS will max out at 90mph, same as a KLR, while getting nearly double the fuel mileage. Something tells me the KLR can do better than stock performance, and that it ought to. Also, such things should add to engine life, not subtract, because the lean+hot default tune is the recipe for reduced engine life. Though, fuel consumption may be another matter.

Putting a z900 pipe on my z900 rs. I see why the std. Z has 125 hp. The RS has 110. Its that single wall header with crossover tubes and longer collector. Will gain HP w stock parts and no chrome.
I got a 22 adv , but have only riden it 18kms so far , it feels pretty good, its the only modern bike I have , hope to do some trails, I've Got a 76 GL1000 that is all mechanically sound , and I'm just going to repaint the candy red . Cheers .

Thank you for sharing your experience . I fully agree with you about throttle . I ride 4-5 hrs sometime and don’t feel my wrist getting any pain at all . I have bought cruise control but haven’t install yet . Sometime I feel pain on my knees after 2-3 hrs of continuous riding . However , It helps to recover quickly by standing up and seating down , move back and forth for little more blood circulation. Great bike with comfort and reliability.

My Son & I are planning a trip from Dallas to Yosemite Ntl park in 2024 on our KLR'S. We're looking forward to the adventure. I do know that a 300 +/- round trip trip jaunt in one day (Dallas to Davy Crockett Ntl. forest ) got our butt's attention, so the Yosemite trip will probably be a 2 week trip, Whew :)
Man O Man, I am excited for yall. I have some fond memories of my father and I riding around in various parts of Oklahoma, he never did get into the moto camping, but we spent a great deal of time at fishing camp and hunting camps so it all worked out in the end. I am very excited for yall. I will say this, if you have not tried it, both of you get a nice pair of bike shorts, that will help you get a jump start on the comfort, I can generally wear them (taking multiple pair) a few days. most of them are made with good sythentic materials, so its easy to wash them out, clean them up when yall hit a shower house. they dry quickly as well, so easy maintenance. One thing no-one talks about and I should probably do a video on it, there is several companies who are making bamboo based underwear, the huge benefit to these are they comfortable and they dont stink up like cotton. Huge help especially if you are wearing any kind of riding suit like the slim or badlands style adv riding pants and jackets, Your suit will stay much better smelling on long road trips like yall are going to take. hahaha. You may be asking why is he talking about stinky stuff, hahaha, its gonna happen on a long road trip, so when you peal off your clothes at camp, you will thank yourself for the extra precautions to not stink hahaha. I have a '22 KLR Adventure that I put a Seat Concepts commuter seat on. Few days ago, I did 220 miles in 4.5 hrs (with breaks). It's much more comfy than stock.

Great way to explain your experience, your point of view was very interesting. I currently live in Venezuela and I can tell you that the prices of these motorcycles are crazy. Today in Caracas they sell a base model KLR 2022 for 14K or 15K. Impossible to be able to acquire a motorcycle of this style, with these disastrous and corrupt socialist policies that ruin the economy!

Have a 2013 KLR , bought it new . Going to the Hills in South Dakota for a week and a half of September riding. I did Montana and Wyoming with it on and off road and it did great great! Ran great at 10,000 ft also. Built like a tank !
I just took an 840 mile trip, and my ass hurt so bad that I had to get off the bike every 80-100 miles and I was pissed by the time I made it to around 300 miles, but then again I only had 500 miles on my bike so the seat really isn't broke in yet, and I do say that in the video as well on Friday, but I do swear a little as well because I was getting the heck beat out of me by the wind. you have more miles on your bike than I do so you are getting that seat broke in really well so that gives me hope that the seat on my bike will break in eventually...lol
I am currently prepping my bike for a 2200 mile round trip, trip. I am going to take padded bike shorts along with my Klim Gear on this trip. We shall see if that helps, if it does, it will be the most bang for the bike as far as seats go. I like you, was ready to get off the bike. One thing I told my wife and I forgot to mention it in the video was this, My right ear hurt more from the wind noise than my but did. Yes sir, I believe by the time I get back from this trip, it will be so much better for comparison. Enjoyed the vid. I bought my gen 3 in May and only have about 300 miles on it so far due to the heat keeping me off of it most days. Today was my longest ride so far at around 80 miles and my butt was feeling it for sure. This is my first motorcycle and I love it and am looking forward to longer rides in the future.
The but, yeah, it takes some saddle time and just like with horses and saddles, I am not sure if the dsaddle breaks in or our butts adjust to it. hahaha, It will get better in time, if its really bad try some padded bicycle shorts to help get you over the hump and then it should all work out ok. I put jell grips on my 2022 Adventure. It's helps a little. With 4200 miles have had no problems with the bik¹e. Also I did the airbox norkle delete and was surprised how better it sounded due to the intake induction.

My friend and I are waiting for the 2024 Kawasaki’s to come out. And we also intend to buy the trailers that I see on a lot of bikes the single axle. As we plan to do a ton of touring next year. My friend Macho is from New jersey.& I’m from Florida, so it’s going to be kind of a meet you in the middle, and we take off from there. Once we get used to our bikes, we intend to do the northern section of the tat out of NJ, to Oregon, then cut north through Alaska to Prudhoe bay. We plan to make this at least a minimum of a three month trip.

Alex, Thanks for taking the time to ask. I did cover this in one of the reviews I have done on the bike with feedback from other riders who are riding two up. Most of the folks who answered are adding the top case for the back of the bike, which makes a nice back rest for the passenger and they seam to be enjoying the trips nicely. When you say touring, I am thinking you are talking about longer all day trips and multiple day trips. I do not have an answer for you on that, however, if you are on Facebook, you may want to check out our Gen three tribe facebook group, there is a lot of different riders in that group and they may be able to answer better than I since I mostly ride solo. I like it better than shaving all the time. I may shave some of it off soon, but its to the point, It is a rattled up mess after riding, its not quite long enough for a pony tail or to braid it, but is is awful after a day of riding as matted up as it gets being blown all day. I will say this, in Texas, we don't get as many windy days like we did back in Oklahoma. I have risen a few times in wind as much as 10-15 MPH, cross winds. It did better than A DRZ for sure. One Day, Tankerman was with me and he commented following me, how well my bike was doing in comparison to his XR, I hope this helps answer the question. Two weeks ago my son and I rode our Klr's to Creede, Colorado for a week of camping and fishing. I rode from Southwest Oklahoma and he rode from Fayetteville, Arkansas. In the weeks prior to the trip, my son bought a new seat. Sorry, I can't recall the brand, but it was around $400. The problem is when your bike is packed and loaded down for a trip like that, you are pretty much riding up on the tank. When he was test riding the new seat around town, he was really looking forward to that long ride from Fayetteville to Black Mesa State Park where we camped the first night. But in reality there was actually not much difference in the new seat verses the stock seat because of the loaded riding position. I just thought people should consider this before they spend the money on something they won't benefit much from.

I had cruise control on my Road King, I didn't have it on my Africa Twin, or my Himalayan, I didn't miss it. For me a full day is 500 miles (800 km). Everybody is different and it also depends on the road your riding. I don't think there is a gravel road that I have traveled that I would use a cruise control on. I like the variety of shots in this video are great but the quality of the video is very rough. Maybe think about increasing the data rate or updating your cameras.

On 10-27-23, I took a 2 day, 925 mile trip on my '23 KLR "S" . First day was 375 miles, second 550. I am 69, 6'1" 245. All miles were hwy/interstate. I have a 'Seat Concepts' touring seat, National Cycle tall VStream windshield and a GoCruise throttle lock.
The seat definitely makes long distance riding better as does the windscreen, and there is no way I woulda been able to complete the ride w/o the GoCruise.
I had alot of fun and highly recommend a KLR as an inexpensive way to tour. I am also in agreement with all the items u mentioned in this excellent vid. Ride safe sir!

A few weeks ago I did 725 miles and followed it with a 250 mile day on my KLR base model with no mods. It wasn't comfortable, but it wasn't terrible.
hahahah, I totally get the it wasn't terrible. and yes there is more comfortable options. IF I am doing a long ride, I will wear bike shorts, padded mountain bike shorts the first couple of days to help the rear and seat break in together. I figure I had them so might as well. use. them. No, I actually have the uncle mikes brand for stabilizer on this bike, I honestly can't tell that it does anything other than remove your boot from sealing the top of the fork properly. I would not buy it agian. It looks cool, otherwise, I can't tell it is doing anything.

I have the same klr I went from ni to Athens ga not one problem. All yeses no complaints that's a eight hundred mile plus mile trip mine you I have all heavy crash guards and skid plate and hand guards heavy inner tubes and motoz tractionater tires all heavy stuff and heavy battery

@@Heartlanddualsport My interest is to see if the KLR can be made more comfortable for touring with a 16t or 17t sprocket and ECU remapping afterwards, so that the fuel/air ratios are tuned to the new gearing requirements. It seems like a logical thing to do because the fuel/air requirements will be different different with different performance modifications.
I just found that for KLRs, Magnum Tuning ECU, but after looking into them, I'd be cautious unless you hear otherwise. All the reviews, even by Americans, have very poor English, and don't seem original. And they wouldn't answer me publicly when I asked them what, if any, advantage they have over a PC6/power commander. In any case, after looking into this stuff for the last 2 days, I think it's fair to say that it is easy and relatively cheap to get 20% (6hp) more power out of a KLR than stock with a quality air filter, exhaust, and EFI tuner, but would like to hear what others can add from personal experience. I have seen power curves that demonstrate that kind of increase even with the plug+play type EFI tuners. I mean, a BMW 310 performs almost the same as a KLR. Something isn't right performance wise with the stock tuning. Be cautious with the post above.

Bad news: DynoJet's Power Commander KLR tune does not resolve the mid-rpm fuel cut issue. Also, changing the fuel values (from 0 to 1) on 0% throttle for 3k - 7.5k RPM and it made no difference. I had a feeling this would happen. The DynoJet is a piggy back module. The ECU knows nothing of it.
Good News: Definite 'seat of the pants' power increase! Pulls much better in the mid range while maintaining smooth control for the slow stuff. Looking at the maps, they achieved this by bumping up the timing advance values in the mid range. They made minimal changes to the fuel map. I'd compare the change to hitting the 'sport' button in your car or tow/pull button in your truck.

Power Commander
I don’t have one but those that have tried them on bikes in general say 1 to 2% increase. So .4 to 1.8 horsepower. Barely noticeable. The big bore kits seem to be the only thing that pumps up a KLR.

I have two 2022 KLR’s both with power commanders. One has a Yoshi slip on and one has stock exhaust. Big improvement on both bikes but the Yoshi in my opinion gained at least 10% more. Much more throttle response and the added ability to pass cars on highway by just rolling the throttle instead of a requiring a down shift. Also a noticeable reduction in engine vibration at 60 to 70 mph. The engine just runs smoother. Definitely worth the money especially if your already adding a slip on exhaust.
If you add the PC to your stock exhaust it comes with a map ready for that exhaust. You’ll notice a quicker throttle response and a bit more horsepower. Add a slip on with the PC and the improvement over stock is significant. Hopefully soon, PC will have a map specifically tuned for a few different slip on exhaust options. Either way, the PC is a great upgrade.

Re-Flash The ECU Or Aftermarket Tuner
Most modern bikes have an engine control unit (ECU), a small computer chip that controls (and much of the time strangles) various aspects of the bike’s performance. That chip is factory-programmed to comply with emissions and fuel requirements, but lucky for you, it can be remapped/re-flashed to uncork performance. An ECU (re)flash involves changing the stock onboard programming with a new tune usually resulting in good power gains (depending on your goals). But if you’re always changing parts on the bike (exhaust pipes, etc.), an ECU flash is probably not for you. Also, if done incorrectly your bike will suffer, so make sure the grease monkey doing the work knows the lay of the land.
Or you can go with an aftermarket fuel/power tuner (like a Power Commander or Vance & Hines FuelPak) to adjust those stock settings. Broadly speaking, tuners come in two flavors: plug-and-play units designed for stock or lightly modified engines, and those that can be programmed to add more fuel or air and tweak other settings at different ranges to make more power to meet a highly tuned engine's needs. If you've slapped on a new pipe, you'll definitely want a tuner to get fuel mapping brought into line. These units can be a much simpler and more flexible deal than a re-flash.
Result: Unless you're piggybacking with some other change, power gains won't be much, but they'll improve overall rideability.

First, let me start by saying that the KLR EFI system is a version of 'speed density'. This means it monitors 'air density' to make changes to the fuel mapping using a MAP sensor and a 'narrow band' O2. The factory table is very narrow. It then uses the O2 reading to determine if the map/specified injector duty cycle is sufficient to keep the AFR (air/fuel ratio) within range (again, the factory O2 range is very narrow). It compensates for 'density' changes, ie; altitude and temperature.
The system has no way of knowing what the 'mass air flow' actually is at any given point. When a free flowing intake and/or exhaust is installed that creates a 'mass flow' increase. Same thing if one installs a 685 kit for example.
Simply bolting on 'performance parts' in general does NOT change the 'density' of the incoming air. Therefore the system has very little information to go on for making adjustments; other than it will see that the O2 reading is out of parameters for the corresponding density reading. The table the factory loads into the computer is so narrow it cannot produce appropriate compensation. Likewise, the factory has also specified rather 'lean' algorithms in regards to AFR. This means not only does the factory computer programming not have the ability (narrow band) to make enough correction but it doesn't see the 'need' to do it. Running that lean isn't going to help power output.
The Power Commander gives full control over the fuel map and duty cycle (this is key) of the injector. One could literally run the injector at 100% duty cycle but it's not recommended. It would be more practical to upgrade the size of the injector at that point to maintain efficiency and longevity.
Dynojet isn't in the business of 'making maps' for every bike and every combination. That's precisely why they have shops designated as "tuners" who employ a dynamometer. Dynojets' market is 'massive' in comparison to JD or most any others.
What the 'autotune' (wideband) does is allow an end user to apply all of the same technology that would be used at the dyno. It tunes your engine in real time and has the ability to 'fully' compensate for any performance mods. It allows the user to specify what AFR and at what RPM/throttle position you want it. It's basically the equivalent of having a "factory" programming process right on the bike. It's a 'piggyback' system which means it intercepts the OEM input signal and then 'modifies' it to meet the parameters set forth in the map table. It's basically a constant feedback loop that allows full control over fuel and timing. Once the autotune makes a recommend table the user is able to go in and 'accept' the suggested 'trims' and/or modify them. Basically, the sky is the limit (or injector size/duty cycle) capabilities.
With the setup that Willie is running and some seat time running the autotune through it's paces accepting trims (it takes many rides at different loads) to achieve, I firmly believe +10hp is not out of the question. Based on what I've seen in other applications. The big single thumper is going to benefit greatly from some ignition timing advancement because it needs more time to build cylinder pressure during the compression stroke.
I'll reiterate, the KLR is NOT highly tuned from the factory; if anything it's DE-TUNED. This got a little long but there's a lot to cover. Bottom line, the PC runs circles around any other tuning module on the market in multiple ways.

I am surprised that it is nearly impossible to find Gen3 KLR owners that have posted info on using a high performance air filter + exhaust with a quality EFI tuner or dyno tune. The KLR is right on the edge of being a very highway capable/comfortable with proper gearing (17t, or 16t/40t = 800 lower RPMs at highway speeds) and the potential extra power these things can provide (6hp = 20%).
A BMW 310 GS will max out at 90mph, same as a KLR, while getting nearly double the fuel mileage. Something tells me the KLR can do better than stock performance, and that it ought to. Also, such things should add to engine life, not subtract, because the lean+hot default tune is the recipe for reduced engine life. Though, fuel consumption may be another matter.

Putting a z900 pipe on my z900 rs. I see why the std. Z has 125 hp. The RS has 110. Its that single wall header with crossover tubes and longer collector. Will gain HP w stock parts and no chrome.
I got a 22 adv , but have only riden it 18kms so far , it feels pretty good, its the only modern bike I have , hope to do some trails, I've Got a 76 GL1000 that is all mechanically sound , and I'm just going to repaint the candy red . Cheers .

Sometime I feel pain on my knees after 2-3 hrs of continuous riding . However , It helps to recover quickly by standing up and seating down , move back and forth for little more blood circulation.

My Son & I are planning a trip from Dallas to Yosemite Ntl park in 2024 on our KLR'S. We're looking forward to the adventure. I do know that a 300 +/- round trip trip jaunt in one day (Dallas to Davy Crockett Ntl. forest ) got our butt's attention, so the Yosemite trip will probably be a 2 week trip, Whew :)
Man O Man, I am excited for yall. I have some fond memories of my father and I riding around in various parts of Oklahoma, he never did get into the moto camping, but we spent a great deal of time at fishing camp and hunting camps so it all worked out in the end. I am very excited for yall. I will say this, if you have not tried it, both of you get a nice pair of bike shorts, that will help you get a jump start on the comfort, I can generally wear them (taking multiple pair) a few days. most of them are made with good sythentic materials, so its easy to wash them out, clean them up when yall hit a shower house. they dry quickly as well, so easy maintenance. One thing no-one talks about and I should probably do a video on it, there is several companies who are making bamboo based underwear, the huge benefit to these are they comfortable and they dont stink up like cotton. Huge help especially if you are wearing any kind of riding suit like the slim or badlands style adv riding pants and jackets, Your suit will stay much better smelling on long road trips like yall are going to take. hahaha. You may be asking why is he talking about stinky stuff, hahaha, its gonna happen on a long road trip, so when you peal off your clothes at camp, you will thank yourself for the extra precautions to not stink hahaha. I have a '22 KLR Adventure that I put a Seat Concepts commuter seat on. Few days ago, I did 220 miles in 4.5 hrs (with breaks). It's much more comfy than stock.

Today in Caracas they sell a base model KLR 2022 for 14K or 15K. Impossible to be able to acquire a motorcycle of this style, with these disastrous and corrupt socialist policies that ruin the economy!

Have a 2013 KLR , bought it new . Going to the Hills in South Dakota for a week and a half of September riding. I did Montana and Wyoming with it on and off road and it did great great! Ran great at 10,000 ft also. Built like a tank !

I just took an 840 mile trip, and my ass hurt so bad that I had to get off the bike every 80-100 miles and I was pissed by the time I made it to around 300 miles, but then again I only had 500 miles on my bike so the seat really isn't broke in yet, and I do say that in the video as well on Friday, but I do swear a little as well because I was getting the heck beat out of me by the wind. you have more miles on your bike than I do so you are getting that seat broke in really well so that gives me hope that the seat on my bike will break in eventually...lol
I am currently prepping my bike for a 2200 mile round trip, trip. I am going to take padded bike shorts along with my Klim Gear on this trip. We shall see if that helps, if it does, it will be the most bang for the bike as far as seats go. I like you, was ready to get off the bike. Enjoyed the vid. I bought my gen 3 in May and only have about 300 miles on it so far due to the heat keeping me off of it most days. Today was my longest ride so far at around 80 miles and my butt was feeling it for sure. This is my first motorcycle and I love it and am looking forward to longer rides in the future.
The but, yeah, it takes some saddle time and just like with horses and saddles, I am not sure if the dsaddle breaks in or our butts adjust to it. hahaha, It will get better in time, if its really bad try some padded bicycle shorts to help get you over the hump and then it should all work out ok. I put jell grips on my 2022 Adventure. It's helps a little. With 4200 miles have had no problems with the bik¹e. Also I did the airbox norkle delete and was surprised how better it sounded due to the intake induction.

Yes sir, I totally agree, its a lot like a rider and a horse, you can have the most comfortable saddle in the world, take a few months off for winter and your in lots of pain first spring long ride. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week.

My friend and I are waiting for the 2024 Kawasaki’s to come out. And we also intend to buy the trailers that I see on a lot of bikes the single axle. As we plan to do a ton of touring next year. My friend Macho is from New jersey.& I’m from Florida, so it’s going to be kind of a meet you in the middle, and we take off from there. Once we get used to our bikes, we intend to do the northern section of the tat out of NJ, to Oregon, then cut north through Alaska to Prudhoe bay. We plan to make this at least a minimum of a three month trip.

@@Heartlanddualsport for me, this is going to be a total writing change. Coming down off of a Honda Goldwing pulling a full-size trailer. To the new Kawasaki KL are adventure and hopefully pulling a single axle trailer.
Could someone tell me how it'll do for touring two-up?
Alex, Thanks for taking the time to ask. I did cover this in one of the reviews I have done on the bike with feedback from other riders who are riding two up. Most of the folks who answered are adding the top case for the back of the bike, which makes a nice back rest for the passenger and they seam to be enjoying the trips nicely. When you say touring, I am thinking you are talking about longer all day trips and multiple day trips. I do not have an answer for you on that, however, if you are on Facebook, you may want to check out our Gen three tribe facebook group, there is a lot of different riders in that group and they may be able to answer better than I since I mostly ride solo.

That sir, I don't know, I have been a lot of places, but that one is on my list. I have not been there. Many our speed limits here in Texas are higher than 70 as well, I still cruise at the speed this bike is more comfortable at. Im in no huge hurry. I like it better than shaving all the time. I may shave some of it off soon, but its to the point, It is a rattled up mess after riding, its not quite long enough for a pony tail or to braid it, but is is awful after a day of riding as matted up as it gets being blown all day. Well done, I was wondering how does the bike do in crosswinds.
I will say this, in Texas, we don't get as many windy days like we did back in Oklahoma. I have risen a few times in wind as much as 10-15 MPH, cross winds. It did better than A DRZ for sure. One Day, Tankerman was with me and he commented following me, how well my bike was doing in comparison to his XR, I hope this helps answer the question. It is heavy enough the wind is not nearly as noticeable. I am planning a 2500 mile round trip, trip soon. I will have a better answer for you after I return from that trip. @@Heartlanddualsport Dale isn’t a reason name . Dale Walksler is another great name in motorcycling. If your not familiar he did a couple bike related tv shows and built the Wheels Trough Time motorcycle museum in Maggie Valley NC. His son now runs it and is doing a great job of it. In spring I’ll head there . About a 90 minute ride for me.

Take a rubber band and wrap it in between the twist throttle gap at your own risk of course, that's a cruise control in a pinch.
ha, I love it. I have been using some of my daughters hair rubber bands for my beard on the long trips so it dont get all tangled up in knots, hahha, I can see that being another use on the long trips. Thank you so much for the idea and I hope you have a blessed week.
