  • And the serious refurbishment begins!! My big goal this year is to get my steam engine on the rails, and I'm off to a good start. You need a boiler to have a steamer, so this is job#1. Oh, and a few other things as well.

Pretty cool old loco, cant wait to see the build/rebuild of it. I thought you really didnt want to use brass for steam stuff because of de-zincification and the parts getting brittle over time? Also, that thin copper tubing on the oiler, I have some of it that I got for making a mist coolant sprayer, but I picked it up at napa. Im not sure what it was used for originally, but it wasnt too expensive and you can get a coil of it there.

Thanks for the heads up on the tube. I'm just hoping for a reasonably good running loco, there's going to be a lot of lipsticking on this pig. I'm not planning on brass for steam parts, I may have misspoke.

Dry pipe should be copper. Come examine my loco if you wish.
I really would like to see more bronze and iron fittings over aluminum.

@@oddduckfoundry8223 Yea, for the brass stuff, I saw all of the fittings, and was wondering about that, or are they cast bronze and just tarnished to look like old yellow brass?
