WARNING...Don't touch the babies!

- These are not our babies. They are in our home because I offer a bird sitting service and I'm an experienced hand feeder of many species.
These two babies are eclectus parrots. Eclectus parrots are sexually dimorphic, meaning you can tell male from female by their color alone. Males are green in plumage and females are red/purple in plumage. There are sub species and even a blue color variety that are stunning.
The bird that is guarding the babies is a completely different species from them. He is a violet harlequin Ringneck. He is NOT clipped but rather has an amputated wing.
HIS STORY:
Shortly after hatching his mother bit half his wing off. We were given the opportunity to rescue him rather than him being euthanized. We knew it may be a long road to his recovery but we wanted to offer a better quality of life. As his half wing grew his feathers didn't grow correctly and were growing inward into his body. Initially our vet pulled the feathers in hopes that the feathers would grow back correctly. When that didn't happen his wing tip was cauterized to prevent the growth of feathers coming in. With all that he had some that still grew back. Obviously never being able to fly and only fall those feathers would break, bleed and cause discomfort/pain. Between our wonderful board certified Avian Vet Dr. Thomas Tully of LSU (feel free to check his credentials) and I we decided that an amputation of the wing was best to prevent further bleeding and pain. He did fantastic with surgery and was able to come home after 24 hours. He is a super happy go lucky kind of bird who gets around quite well on foot, climbs great and talks merely all day. His name is Cypress but is referred to as "mommies angel" and says so in most of our videos I share amongst many other things. This boy is not only full of life but a complete dare devil. We have to keep a closer eye on his whereabouts to prevent climbing then falling as he can spook easier than our other flock members who are all fully flighted and because he finds himself walking around a lot we have to be mindful of where we walk.
He started showing interest in babies when he was close to 1 year old. Natural instinct, possibly but no doubt loves them and will guard them. We don't punish our birds are they are free roaming throughout our home so I'm not going to put him up to get to any babies that may be in our home. This video was edited to show that any time I'm needing to get to any baby that he will protect them. If I'm not recording this it still happens. If I get bit, I get bit and I'll be okay. I feed them and we move on and he is right back to guarding them or if I hold them he insists on being on me to talk to them and offer up a few air kisses or beak kisses.
I can honestly say I’ve never seen a more adorable and protective ball of cotton candy until now 🤣🥰 He’s amazing. Thank you for sharing him with us.
Cotton candy shield 😂
Beautiful Cypress So protective Bless the babies ❤️😘🐦,Guardian Angel 🤗🤗😇😇🎅🤶🎅🤶🙏🙏💙💙🇦🇺
Yeah, especially with his one wing.
😄
lol ball of cotton candy! 😂
Now, that baby sitter means BUSINESS 😂
I wonder if somewhere in the back of his mind, he remembers being hurt when he was a baby and that's why he's so protective.
Oh no! I thought Cypress was just born with one wing!
@@kateorman If I remember correctly, his mother attacked him and his wing had to be amputated.
@@kateorman Sadly that isn't it, when Cypress was a baby bird his mother actually bit a large chunk of Cypress's wing right off! It was like a big hole on the outside rim of the wing. Cypress grew normally but the wing with part of it missing was not good for Cypress. That's why the owners decided to get it amputated. That's all!
@@wonderfulweg7672Thank you! I couldn't remember all the details. I just remembered his mother attacked him and they ended up having his wing amputated.
@@diannamallar1155 And now he protects the babies. That’s the Wounded Healer archetype being played out in the avian world. It’s really wonderful and beautiful. You have good perception!
“I am Cypress, protector or all babies in this house!”
“Cypress what are you doing? These are not your babies!!!” Lol!!!! How adorable… 💙
It's as close to being a father as he'll ever get. What a sweetheart.
I only just noticed Cypress doesn't have one of his wings, I was wondering why he was only getting around by walking or hopping until I noticed.
He's so protective of the babies
I just read the description and it's explained there.
Summary: His mom bit his wing half off, they adopted him and saved him. They eventually decided to amputate it so he'd have best quality of life. His name is Cypress and he's a cutie!
@@DarthDestiny07 Oh thank you for the info! I had no idea that's what happened. He seems to not mind it either. I love Cypress!
I didn't notice until I saw this comment lol, was too focused on how cute he was
@@irisfang that's how I was too until I realized he never flew around
Same here, wondering the same questions and noticing only a few seconds ago. 😅😂
Cypress is too funny not letting Mommy touch the babies. So adorable to watch him protect the little babies like they were his 😂. Cypress just loves all the babies & he’s got such a sweet voice says, “Bless your heart” How do you not to love this bundle of cuteness 😘🥰💜
WOW! His protection reaction for those babies was amazing! It is very obvious that these ringnecks love their mom, I can't believe how attentive and protective he was of these little babies!! Bless his heart!
@@gigigodzilla2166
it's instinctive. normally it would be the female doing the protecting but if the mother is not there the male will take the role.
but they would not survive without the mother in the wild. the mother feeds them.

So Cute!
@@gigigodzilla2166 this is not bird related but it reminds me of when my husband was coming out of a seizure and he noticed the EMT’s there to help him. He freaked out on them all thinking they were there to take the babies. He’s a big guy and he meant business. Only problem was that we didn’t actually have any babies. It took a few minutes to get him calmed enough to be treated.
Birds are great. They are smart, affectionate, funny
Fierce guardian of the babies. They shall be protected!
You have to admire such a smol birb willing to fend off a giant creature 100x his size to defend the babies.
They don't understand how much adorable they are when they act tough.
I can’t help but mull and wonder to myself if his protective instinct towards the babies has some connection with his own early trauma. He is clearly defending them with all his little might. He is clearly a very loving bird with great inner strength. What a beautiful soul he is!
Nothing to do with it at all........many species of parrot will fight to the death to protect their nest and eggs,it's just natural behaviour.
Amazing colours on the babies, and Cypress is as feisty as ever in his role as guardian uncle 😃
Cypress is so smart ..very protective...too funny even though you're his mommy. He won't let you near them...Whatvhappenened to his wing if you don't ind me asking..he seems vey healthy otherwise.
@@lolalolalr2 his mother pecked at it when he was a baby so it was decided the best thing would be amputation.
I just read the description about this beautiful little blue bird. He's so protective of the babies because he got hurt when he was a baby. That is self awareness and intelligence. When a brave little bird. 😊
You are absolutely right people can be realy bad towards poor animals. I know a personwho does a terrible things just 4 more likes and followers
@@temesgen4321 I know people can be bad towards animals, but what this little blue bird, if you read in the description I was talking about his mother, bit his wing off when he was a baby, so I wasn't in this incident speaking about animal's being harmed by human animals, but in this case the little blue bird got injured by his own mother. No matter the species, this happens moms her throne kids happens with humans all the time, unfortunately.
So many species of birds have shown intelligence in a demonstrable way, so having self-awareness and empathy on top of that isn't too hard to accept for me.
@@OriginalUnjustifier they have jealousy and empathy is the natural next evolutionary step after that, both being very useful for creatures who live in groups. It's really just logical to assume they have empathy at this point.
Cypress is the fiercest protector of the babies! He takes his responsibility seriously. He’s so adorable and cute, just like all the precious little birby dinosaurs you have.
When he’s “off duty”, he’s so sweet 🥲. Much love and scritches aplenty to your wonderful family and flock!
True
He's the world's best baby sitter😂😂😂Do you know why he's so obsessed with protecting them even though they're not his?
Instinct probably. They're baby birds, and he's seen those before - he most likely knows they're very vulnerable at their age just like we know that other human babies are vulnerable as well
"I love you too mom. But you are Not going to pet the babies!"
Sweet little Cyprus would make a good daddy.
Love to all the "babies" in your flock,
cutiekeet & Joey
that bless you at the end was just perfect!
Didn’t expect to see you here
The babies are all dressed up for Christmas in red and green 🎄💖💖💖✨
Merry Christmas to you and yours 🙏🎄✨
I love Cypress so much! What a good little guardian angel!
Cypress is so protective, you’d think they were her babies! She’s really in attack mode, lol. The babies are beautiful! Since I have Ringnecks I’m partial to them, but those babies are really gorgeous.
He’s so darn cute. He let you get right up to him and then came after you. Ferocious Cypress!!! You sure can’t get mad at him for loving those babies. Did Eizzo go back home?
Eizzo will be with us a couple more days. 😊
Cypress is too cute 🥰
He is doing what nature thought him, it’s to protect the babies. Lol 😂
God bless your heart and bless all your babies. 💙❤️💛💚💜
Bless Cypress, Such a good little babysitter.
My beautiful Ruby is an Eclectus. 11 tears old now, she loves to sing, chat, laugh, whistle and brings joy to my life.!

@Masked_Mood Just a tad sarcastic...lol
This was so interesting in terms of observing ringneck behavior.
Cypress is very brave, and he knows the proper protocol for keeping the baybees tucked away. He is such a good father. 💓
The babies are already nearly twice as big as he is and he's still gonna be the ferocious guard birdie.
So funny Cypress is! When you said that those are not his babies, he stopped and seemed soooo surprised… I think you got him thinking, LOL!!! Merry Christmas to you all, two-legged and winged (two & one-winged!)❣️🤗 ❤️💚🎄🦜🤶🎅🇺🇸🇳🇴🎅🤶🦜🎄💚❤️
Your pfp is what is funny. You're a living joke.
Oh my! Cypress is not happy with you trying to touch those babies! So funny.
IT'S HILARIOUS.
Ah yes Cypress defending his baby dinosaurs. :D
I don't know why but when you say "Ooooo that's a Mad Face!" I just start giggling like a fool. Thank you for sharing the fiercest protector of babies!
Small but mighty!
Hi Butters 🙌
Like Murph from the Dresden Files; "Tiny, but fierce."
My fiancé and I lost our Eclectus Sally a year ago yesterday. I have tried to avoid looking at Eclectus’s because I miss her so much. We have both agreed that our next bird will be another Female Eclectus. (We currently have a male bare eyed cockatoo, Casper, and a male caique, Sunshine.) We finalized her adoption 3 years ago on Christmas Day.
I lost my feather babies this month. it's really hard
"Don't touch the babies, it makes me angry. Don't make me angry, you won't like me when I'm angry" It's so funny how he loves the babies. Any size babies. 💙💚💜💛
Love your bird and ecstatic to learn his feathers were not intentionally clipped to prevent him from flying (reason for wings) it breaks my heart to see such beautiful birds grounded for our viewing pleasure.
Oh my goodness. ......lol just show us how their personalities shine through..bless his heart and feathers..🐦🐦🐦🐦💖💖💖💕💓💗
Cypress is so adorable! Love his caring nature towards all babies. 😊😘🕊💗💜
You better leave those babies alone!
BEST BABY PROTECTOR EVER🥰...I work at a dog boarding facility..we have a beagle come in named FRANK...I find myself calling FRANNNK like the birds😂😂😂😂
Lol.. I really need a real Frank but it's hilarious that there isn't one.
Humans need to be as good as a protector as this one winged hero.
Bless his heart... he can't help it, it's instincts
I love how they’re not his babies (I think they might even be larger than he is) but Cypress is *not* about to let any harm come to them!!
Lol..I didn't even notice they are bigger than he is.... but yeah they are I think 😂. Too adorable.
"Time to feed the babies"
"I love you babies"
One of my favorite birb videos and your little fluffernutters reminded me!❤
The little enforcer. He's so cute.
Such an adorable lil one winged burby.
He’s cute. Instinct is so impressive and birds are so expressive.
He means business! 😳🐦😆
Those parrots certainly like hopping around the place.
Awwwww the “thank you” kiss “pleasure” is just adorable 🥰 🦜
This lady has the caring reassuring voice I need to hear when I'm poorly and in bed, and I'm a grown-ass man, lol
I love how willing Cypress is to protect an entirely different species of parrot babies.
Oh so funny. Uber protective!
I think male birds are very protective. I had a male cockatiel who would protect me when I fell asleep in the recliner. I woke up to find him sitting on my toe scanning the room. He did not like to be disturbed while he was on guard duty.
Ellie has very much grown to be this way however I believe it has to do with my phone more so than me. At least that's how I perceive it in my situation.
Cypress may be so protective because of his injury as a fledgling.
I had 8 Ringnecks at one time.
They're amazing!!!
He certainly is vigilant about protecting those babies! 💙
Bless you
I love Cypress ♥️
Love how he's sucking up to you at the end after being a meanie.
What a heartwarming backstory! To think, a bird who was permanently injured as a baby is now the protector of the babies!
Hi cypress and the babies!
He’s adorable. Thank you for rescuing him.
Cypress must be protector of all babies! What a stinker LOL. But he's so sweet too. And he's such a beautiful boy! So are your babies!!! 😍😍😍❤
Cypress can babysit for me ANYTIME! 🥰🥰🥰
Poor Cypress. He's having a good time now though. Bless his heart.
I cannot get over this! Just amazes me everytime. And these babies are gorgeous. So colorful. To funny. Oh no. A pouty parrot. I'm busting out in tears at this cypress. 😂😂😂
Wow! I've never seen a Ring Neck be anything but overly cute and asking for kisses lol.
Aww he thinks he needs to protect them so cute
omg so cute.. they are amazing with their personalities
I never loved a video description as much as this one. Everybody go read it!
Eizzo was visiting he's too cute also has company God bless him🌲🌲🌹🌹💐💐💟💟😇😇I had a female budgie very attached to me she came to me at two months old when another pair had babies ❤️ She. Flew close into me to stay away she was protecting the other couples babies😇😇🐦🐦🤶🎅😘😘🌲🌲🌹🌹
Wow Cypress can be quite aggressive when protecting. Gets around very well with only 1 wing.❤️
He's turned into quite the dare devil but gets around so quickly.
Aww...such a tiny little Braveheart!!!
Tough little guy !!! 💙 🤣
So beautiful parrots
Guard birb 🦜😎
Bless you ❤️❤️💋, the way he says "thank you" is melting my heart.
He was paid good money to be their security guard.
His colors are truly gorgeous. 💙
Wow so protective ! Guess it shows those who have overcome challenges like Cypress can be loving & protective. Especially of bAbies ! Cheers.
I just got done watching some sad clips that reminded me of a personal tragedy, and this warmed my heart.
Now I'm tearing up because of how cute those babies are and how good (maybe too good) of a Protector of The Babies Cypress is.
Ah Cypress is so protective of the babies, but he doesn’t have to bully you in the process, but still very cute all the same, bless little Cypress. 💕💕💕. Beautiful babies , beautiful colours they have. Thank you for the video. 🦜🦜🦜💐💕
AAAWwww!These birds are so wonderful.:-)Adorable.
What a serious protector 🤩😍 actually he meant the phone or camera is danger for babies.
Cypress story is almost as amazing as he is. And your love for him. Beautiful story, and beautiful birds.
Love Cypress ☺️
He's being so protective ☺️❤️
It is just beyond belief....protective of the babies in order to secure them a complete development... wonderful....
Someone takes their job Very Seriously! If only some people had this kind of work ethic 😉
No doubt!

Oh my word that’s so very precious a male watching after babies, and the beautiful colors of your birds are remarkable
Wow, read his story in the description. He’s so lucky to have y’all! Air kisses and beak kisses to you and your whole family (both human and others :) 💖
Cypress- NO MUMMA...DON'T TOUCH MY BABIES!! So adorable 😍
Gosh!! He's soooo protective. 🥰🥰❤ . I simply luv this kinda protectiveness nd cypress is doing that in a very cute nd responsible way !!😅🥰🥰❤
Nature is soo beautiful, they look like a rainbow 🥰 Such precious creatures, God bless you all 💗💗💗
So profound. Empathy, charity and love are not limited to humans.
Oh, that "thank you!" I'm melting! 🦜🥹🥰
Cypress might feel jealous of the babies♥️☺️
No jealousy as you will see in a future video. ☺
What can I say? Overwhelmingly cute! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🙆🏻♀️
CYPRESS IS ADORABLE. I LOVE HOW HE PROTECTS THE BABIES!!!😊❤ WHAT TYPE OF PARROTS ARE THE RED N GREEN BABIES?
MERRY 🎄CHRISTMAS TO YOUR FAMILY N FLOCK. HAVE A BLESSED CHRISTMAS 🎄
LOVE WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS!!!
They must be Eclectus parrots.
@@sandrastreifel6452 , Thanks. Never heard of those.
@@joycebirr216 Eclectus are fun. Their feathers are so soft and feel more like fur! They also have sexual dimorphism, unlike most parrots. The red one is female and the green one is male.
Are those... *Eclectus* babies?! Heckin' *adorable!*
Those are Cyress's babies now. Sure, they'll grow up to be significantly larger than him but those are HIS babies now.
Awww, Eclectus babies! I love them. I'd love to have a pair, and a Galah. I had a few parrots many many years ago, I miss having them. But what a mess they all were!
