Cooper was being unfair to Eva. However, I can understand his feelings, he was a proud man. Still, he was raised by a single mother that shouldn't have been an issue. She was right because she loved him and thought money shouldn't have been an obstacle. Ted's a stinking user! Hazel and her son Peter were the targets not Eva. Good for Hazel. She took care of the Ted problem. I'm happy that Eva and Cooper married. Good story Narrator.
Fate works in mysterious ways. Idiot Cooper ditching her so that Eva wound up with the venal Ted thus saving Peter from his evil dad then coming full circle back to idiot Cooper. Great story.
Stupid men come in all shapes and sizes, I guess. Real men don't just give up on something, spewing excuses like "he doesn't deserve her", "you can find someone better", etc., etc., etc. How is deciding for someone else instead of being honest as genuinely in love couples should and mutually agree on something especially that which has significant impact on the relationship right? Yup, he led her to a bad relationship instead -- indirectly though it might be. Good thing fate smiled on her and saved her from that Ted. Maybe, this time, Eva would think more wisely. Even she got back with that Cooper, hopefully she wouldn't just trust anymore and be ready instead for whatever.

The financial difference makes him feel less a man. Can't she see that?
Outdated stereotypes. This is the basis of successful men marrying pretty and stupid women who work low level jobs. The children thus are inferior and rightly so. The males inherit her intelligence, so end up in lower positions. The girls inherit intelligence from both but are tainted by the dopy wife as well with whom they spend most time.
