  • We are so excited to have this wiring finished! This week we ran the wires for our 12V and 110V power that will come from our solar panels. It went surprisingly smooth with a little help from our family. We've listed everything we used in this video down below, but as always if you have any questions, drop them in the comments below!

    Looks great the only thing I would use stranded marine wire for the 110 volt instead of the yellow house romax wire you used it's like your 12 volt wire but made for 110 volts and it's great wire Amazon has it in 14/2 for 15 amps and 12/2 for 20 amps just like the house wire from depot or Lowe's
    I've built two coaches over the last 20 plus Years now and have used the same wire it's still working great to date.
    Thanks for sharing your doing great.

      Thanks Brian! We found people recommending both the stranded marine wire and the yellow romex in our research and read somewhere that the marine wire was maybe overkill (which is never a bad thing lol). As first time builders, we really appreciate the tip!

      @@AdventureTrudge I was just thinking of your concern about the use of stranded wire for the 12 volt wire possible breaking 110 volt wire has the same possible outcome but could start a fire if it were nicked or cut or a screw went into it but it still will do the job just fine.

      @@AdventureTrudge omgggg so exciting though! we’re still a ways away from getting it spray foamed! We are in the process of getting our bus safetied by mechanics and getting insurance for it to get it registered on the road so we can drive it! It’s a bit of a different process in Canada than it is in the states.. and it’s actually way more difficult to do so we’re kind of at a road block right now! But we’ll get there eventually 😪 can’t wait to see ur next episode!

      @@AdamandAtlas Registration/insurance is going to be the worst 😭 for now we were able to register our bus as truck but once we finish the build we’ll have to go through re-registering as an RV. Fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly for you guys!

      @@AdventureTrudge in Canada you can’t register it as a truck vehicle until it doesn’t haven’t any school bus stuff on it, it is painted a colour different than yellow, and has all the seats out.. and so we are trying to do that now but it’s so difficult to find an insurance company that will take on a conversion project because they don’t want to take on the liability of a “homemade rv”. So frustrating :( thank you though! We hope to have it figured out soon!

    Looking really good! I’m nervous about the actual wiring everything up part of the build. I hope I know someone with some electrical knowledge 😅😅 your AC are you using Romex or was that stranded as well? I know we definitely want to do stranded for everything.

    • @AdventureTrudge
      @AdventureTrudge  2 роки тому

      We used romex for the AC wiring, but stranded seems to be the safest bet! From what we've read romex *shouldn't* have any issues and lots of other skoolies have used it in their builds but stranded is probably better (based on my very little knowledge)

      Great question! Honestly, we just followed what we saw a lot of other skoolie channels do with their wiring and spray foam. You’re 100% right that the foam makes the wires nearly impossible to access. That being said, the most likely failure points are where any connections are and we made sure to leave those accessible. I think it’d be fine to insulate first and then run wires, you’d just have to carve out channels in the insulation for the wire to run through. ☺️

    Hello, loved the video. I’m at this part and have a few questions. With 110 do you have to run the wire to each outlet? Or can you share the same wire for two outlets on the same wall? If that makes sense. Start at the fuse box then run wire through the first outlet and continue to the next or should each outlet have a separate wire. Also on the 12 volt can you do the same this is where I’m confused thanks

    • @AdventureTrudge
      @AdventureTrudge  2 роки тому +1

      You can definitely string 110 outlets together! We have our bedroom and kitchen 110 outlets on the same circuit. You just need to take into consideration the power draw of what will be plugged into the outlet. If you have a 20amp breaker for the circuit but have multiple appliances plugged in that have a high power draw you’ll probably trip the breaker. But for just daily use things like chargers, it’s totally fine! The same goes for the 12v outlets, however I’m pretty sure we put each of our 12v outlets on their own circuit to avoid blowing a fuse.

    I know that white Romex is 14 gauge and yellow Romex is 12 gauge which are larger gauge wires. I know they use white in houses. Why did you decide to go with the bigger yellow 12 gauge? Just curious if Rv's/Busses require it?

    • @AdventureTrudge
      @AdventureTrudge  2 роки тому

      Hey Mike, they definitely don’t require it! We used the larger wire in case we ever wanted to install something that had a bigger power draw like a mini split air conditioner. Again, we’re not pros but it seemed like it wouldn’t harm us to use the 12 (other than costing more) and it would leave us more flexibility for upgrading appliances in the future 😊
